Gallbladder is gone so where is this pain from?

HI
Had the dreaded gallbladder removed last June after only 7 months of pain (so I'm pretty lucky).
Everything went well, home the same day - took a good 4 weeks to feel totally better after the op but eating was ok and I don't seem to be affected by bowel issues like some people.
Only problem is I have dull ache in exactly the same place I used to get the gallbladder pain. It's not intense pain but it's in the front RUQ under my ribs and moves round the side and to my back.
It doesn't seem to appear after anything in particular and most of the time it's there constantly. Suppose it's more of an annoyance than anything else because I'm always aware of this ache. I'm quite reluctant to go to my GP because after spending about 7 months constantly in the surgery last year updating painkillers and nausea pills I don't want them to think I'm addicted to medical attention.
Just wondered if anyone had anything similar or if it's just a by-product of surgery that I'll have to get on with?
Thanks

No Fat, eat water or juice with fiber and flush your intestine, you have to keep going to the bathroom regularly by going and/or flushing.
NEVER take Pepto Bismol or Imodium for Diarrea, that sent me to the ER. Keep taking Omeprazole.

Can you should start a thread with this information posted in the Gallbladder Forum so everyone can see it.
This is the first time I have seen a name (PCS) given to the basket of symptoms experienced post-op and even more amazing it was first proposed in 1947!
I bet a lot of doctors would not of heard of PCS.
Well done!

The suggestions I have is:
1) avoid all pain meds with coedine or opiates
2) Get a different doctor / clinic - press the reset button on the relationship
3) Ask them if they have heard of post cholecystectomy syndrome.
You could be in the 2% of post-chole patients that have ongoing severe pain symptoms and require further treatment.
Wishing you all the best.

I just happened to come across this post and looked thru many of the comments and I might have missed someone giving this advice or suggestion but here goes...
If you continue to have upper abdominal pain after having your gallbladder removed please look this up Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. I had my gallbladder removed and actually got worse 3 days after the surgery. I had an ERCP (tube down your throat into your stomach) that looks at the opening of your common bile duct. In this area you can have stones, sludge, blockage, narrowing, and a poorly functioning sphincter (the opening of the bile duct to your small bowel). I've had 10 ERCP's in the past 4 years. If you go to a gastroenterologist that specializes in this issue and performs ERCP's you shouldn't be scared about getting pancreatitis. Yes it's a complication but there are medications they give now to help prevent that from happening. Do your own research. I diagnosed myself with this and was sent to a different specialist who deals with this disorder daily and patients come see him from all over the world. Don't let someone tell you there's nothing wrong. Only you know if you are hurting or there is something wrong with your body. Just so you know, in the beginning my blood test for my liver would be elevated when I was having an attack. However, for my 5th ERCP I was in extreme pain and all test came back normal. I was in the Emergency Room and sent home after being told nothing was wrong. Thank god I have a doctor who treats me and not the blood test results. My 5th ERCP showed a marble size stone blocking my bile duct and this could have potentially been extremely dangerous if not taken care of. My specialist said that my body had just gotten use to what was going on and it didn't show anything abnormal on the blood test.
So take it from me and the other Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD) suffers...you have to be your own advocate. Push and demand for proper treatment. Look up SOD and see if it fits your symptoms, all of you! We have a Facebook page dedicated to SOD from people from all over the world. Look us up and any one of us would be willing to help you in anyway we can.
Much luck to you all! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions

ive come to the conclusion that it could be a build up of fat. Sometimes the pain is unbearable, resulting in diorrhea, burping, Oisin under rib cage, around my back and in my shoulder. It can be frightening. I'm glad that I've found this page so that I can talk to people in a similar position. I di find that regular messages help.
