Gallbladder is gone so where is this pain from?

HI

Had the dreaded gallbladder removed last June after only 7 months of pain (so I'm pretty lucky).

Everything went well, home the same day - took a good 4 weeks to feel totally better after the op but eating was ok and I don't seem to be affected by bowel issues like some people.

Only problem is I have dull ache in exactly the same place I used to get the gallbladder pain. It's not intense pain but it's in the front RUQ under my ribs and moves round the side and to my back.

It doesn't seem to appear after anything in particular and most of the time it's there constantly. Suppose it's more of an annoyance than anything else because I'm always aware of this ache. I'm quite reluctant to go to my GP because after spending about 7 months constantly in the surgery last year updating painkillers and nausea pills I don't want them to think I'm addicted to medical attention.

Just wondered if anyone had anything similar or if it's just a by-product of surgery that I'll have to get on with?

Thanks

Glad to hear rom you.  The drs. did the same to me...even sent a Physciatrist into the room to see me.  Obviously, after posting on here, this is not an uncommon problem.  Why is there no treatment for it?

I think because they cant obviously see what is wrong they assume the patient is making it up to score narcotics or that we are crazy. I have been offered antidepressants to help with the pain although I cant see how it would!

what in the WORLD is an antidepressant suppose to help Gallbladder pain !!!?

If you are stressed or depressed then this makes your pain worse.  It is a medical fact.

I wasn't going to take it. Just saw a post about some naturopathic approach to this pain. Going to look into it.

I feel very lucky. I still have alittle achy feelings in my guts but I think it's post op pain.  it's been 3 weeks since that damn GB was taken out due to being inflamed. no stones the doc. said, but inflamed for some reason, and even with NO stones the pain was severe !  I feel for ANYONE that has pain.  I never knew the GB cvould cause so much misery !

I'm having the same pain as I was having when I had my gallbladder. But my pain is so bad it brings tears. An it just hit me out the blue. I've had a colonscopy, endoscopic. Stomach, esophagus, intestines looks good. So my GI dr want me to have a CT Scan while I'm hurting. I am scheduled in the morning. I'm nauseated, this pain is no joke. Praying they find something.

Hi, how are you? As the pain settled, I hope so as I too have been through similar tests to get to the bottom of this pain. I had a Sigmoidoscopy instead of a colonoscopy though and a diagnostic laparoscopy. The CT showed a thickened colon and the laparoscopy showed a distended large bowel. I will be interested to see how you get on as I know when I've been in hospital during an attack my bloods have been out. All my surgeon says is that the pain was probably not the GB in the first place.I hope they can sort the problem out for you as you know when reading the comments on this site and talking to other GBless people (Drs told me to use this site for reference) that there is a major problem going on for us . Good luck and stay strong , please let us know how you are

Please don't worry about anyone thinking you are addicted to medical attention!  You and only you are capable of knowing about your own pain, particularly if it is mostly constant.  Yes, it could be the result of the surgery.  There are so many nerves involved, we don't even know the whole story after a surgery.  Still, keep on this, get a second opinion, especially if it continues.  Best to you.

Hey, maybe finding a doctor who has had the same complaint would be helpful?
