Gallbladder is gone so where is this pain from?

HI

Had the dreaded gallbladder removed last June after only 7 months of pain (so I'm pretty lucky).

Everything went well, home the same day - took a good 4 weeks to feel totally better after the op but eating was ok and I don't seem to be affected by bowel issues like some people.

Only problem is I have dull ache in exactly the same place I used to get the gallbladder pain. It's not intense pain but it's in the front RUQ under my ribs and moves round the side and to my back.

It doesn't seem to appear after anything in particular and most of the time it's there constantly. Suppose it's more of an annoyance than anything else because I'm always aware of this ache. I'm quite reluctant to go to my GP because after spending about 7 months constantly in the surgery last year updating painkillers and nausea pills I don't want them to think I'm addicted to medical attention.

Just wondered if anyone had anything similar or if it's just a by-product of surgery that I'll have to get on with?

Thanks

It is relieving in a sense to know other people experience this same pain that I do. I had my gallbladder removed October 22nd, 2014. Almost exactly one week later I was back in the ER with severe/most extreme pain I've ever felt in my life. It turns out my bile duct had been nicked and I was going septic . After an emergency ERCP procedure to stop the leak I then developed pancreatitis. After basically living in/out of the hospital for 3 months I then discovered I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit where my gallbladder had been that was about to rupture after constant severe pain. A few other things happened but, yeah. To this day, almost 2 years later I still experience pain every day of my life. I can't take deep breaths without pain. I cannot sleep on my right side. I get an occasional "attack" where it feels like I'm having a gallbladder attack and it's horrible. I always wind up in the ER again on pain meds. Doctors can't give me answers. I've done every test imaginable. This is ridiculous. I need answers. The pain is so dibilitating sometimes it causes me to miss work and not be able to function normally sometimes. I can't live the rest of my life like this. I haven't drank alcohol in two years for fear of stomach problems, etc. When will we ever get answers?

Yeah had the surgery about four weeks ago too.  Same symptoms as you but have realized any fatty or refined foods are the ones that really hurt.  So watch out for those.  I had pizza a week after my surgery and the pain felt like death.  Yes under my ribs and radiating to my back.  So training myself to eat right.  Also going to start taking enzymes to be able to digest fats.  Because they are so important for our body.  Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Hello, my name is liberty. I had my gallbladder taken laproscopicly on April 14 of 2016 and I was 17. A few weeks after surgery I got this horrible pain, felt like it was my spine, in my back and ribs. If I were to move it feel like something tore and I'll get a sharp pain. Moving and breathing made it worse. If I were to breathe, the pain in my ribs got worse. I couldn't move. It's August now and I still get pain. If I sit for more than ten minutes I feel pain. If I bend too much I feel the pain. I take ten pills a day but they don't help. If I sit in a certain position i feel pain. If I stretch, I feel pain. I went to a hospital and they did exrays and test but everything came back normal. They said I have muscleskeletal pain. I can't lay on my stomach. The insicons are scars now but hurt sometimes. I hope one day i can find what's wrong.

Liberty- the same exact thing happened to me. Same exact pains, everything. It will be two years since my surgery this coming October. Don't stop searching for an answer. I still am. Sorry for your pain

Thank you. I will never stop funding the answer. I can deal with pain but I'm almost at my limit. I see it as if I am in pain obviously I'm not alright. Doctor said to talk to a muscle specialist and a skeletal specialist. I already have joint problems that i want to get checked.

Hi Liberty,  I don't understand this from a laproscopic, which I thought was a very small incision.  Good for you that you've gone back and they've done test and xrays.  I wouldn't know what to tell you except to keep on it, even if you have to get a second opinion.  Might want to do that on your own and not at the choice of the present doctor.  You'll have to get the records to take or have sent to the new doctor.  I do hope you will get better.  I'd say, it is time!

So sorry to hear that Liberty.  Just make sur eyou do not eat too many processed or refined foods.  They are the ones that hurt so much.  Especially pizza!  I had to learn the hard way too.  Any foods made with refined flour are hard now.  I had my gallbladder taken out the same way on July 5th 2016.  It's all trial and error.  Try to find a diet online that is suitable for after gallbladder surgery and see if that does not help and also drink plenty of distilled water.  Hope these tips will make you comfortable and good luck!

They made 4 small 1 inch incisions. When I have a car and can afford it I will get alot of other opinions at different hospitals. I don't believe theres nothing wrong with me. I will probably contact my go and see what she says.

Can your family take you to different doctors so you can get relief? Go to the office where your surgery was and get all your medical records and take them to a new doctor

My mom hates to drive me places. And she is kinda poor so can't get other opinions unless I am the one going to doctors/paying. And my mom works all the time so I would have time. She also doesn't believe.

Hi I had my gallbladder removed via open cholecystectomy on Feb 19th 2016..constant bile leaks and ercp stent ing since.I had pancreatitis once caused by a metal stent so that was removed and a plastic stent added.I still have pain at the gallbladder area..turns out that a piece of my gallbladder is still there. So I will be having surgery again on August 12th 2016.There is also an infection. You need to be your own advocate if there is still pain..nausea..weight lose..fatigue then be seen again. My gastrointerologist is the one that had a ctscan and mri done.he found the piece of my gallbladder. If this surgery fails I will have to have a hepaticojejunostomy. .a big scary surgery.my common bile duct and other ducts have stricture. So my bile is not flowing. Best wishes..you are not alone.
