I know this sounds daft, but it certainly helped me, and my doctor told me about it too. Chilled natural Apple juice. The pure stuff. Not the stuff from concentrate! For some reason the apple juice can, in some cases help. It has high Pecthin and is polyphenol-rich, which is absolutely brilliant for the gut anyway (there is something to be said about the apple a day keeps the doctor away proverb!), and the natural sugars in apple juice give you a little 'pick-me-up' too. I drink about half litre a day, with my meal of my 2 chicken drumsticks and a punnet of blueberries. Admittedly I am in pain, but even if it is a placebo effect, it seems to take the edge off, and the vitamin C in it is good for you anyway.
I also take Colpermin Peppermint Oil Capsules to soothe the guts, and Buscopan to stop the bowels cramping. And a long acting (Doctor prescribed) anti-acid for the acid reflux/nausea.
If you feel nauseus, I also found Ginger capsules (from health food store) were a big help. My uncle had bowel cancer and was horribly nauseaous with chemo, but a nurse suggested trying Ginger Root Capsules, and he found them great - they even stopped his travel sickness after he went into remission.
Try hot water bottle on the gallbladder site.
I'm sure you've tried lots of things - I think we all do, but just sharing what positives I learnt and am still learning.
Hope you feel a little better soon....and congratulations on your little one!

Also, you might want to ask if your doctor can give you stronger painkillers, either that or recommend a higher dose, and ask what other painkillers you can take WITH it, not so that one drug wipes out the use of the other.
Apples are good every day. They are full of goodness for your guts. Apple juice gets it into your system a little quicker. There is a lot of research into apples and why they are so good for you.
Hope you feel the difference soon.

The odd thing is my daughter has been in a lot of continual pain, she hasn't had the 3 hourly pains that I had, but was sent for an ultrasound and found to have half of her GB full of stones, she is seeing the consultant next week.

Do try and drink water regularly throughout the day. When I had my gallbladder out the only painkiller I found really effective was Dichlohexal 50 mg, 2 at 8 hour intervals. You can take 2X4 in 24 hours, but I could get by with less. I found this especially effective for the 48 hours after the operation.
With a 7 year old and a 20 month old as well as a new baby, you have enough to cope with. I doubt you'll get enough energy from rice and toast, and there are things you can eat for energy.
For the weeks leading up to my op I drank a lot of water, no dairy products, a little cane sugar, apple, apple and carrot juice I did in a blender, small portions of fish grilled, a little ham, with raw carrots, raw capsicum, tomato, (don't overdo the tomato) ... and little amounts regularly. So at 8:00 am I might have a couple of dry salada biscuits with some finely sliced ham, with about 200 ml apple/carrot juice, and water. At 10:00, a glass of water and an apple. At 12:00, a cup of black tea with one teasp sugar, grilled fish and salad; at 2:00 a couple more saladas, perhaps anchovette paste, some raw fresh green beans, water. A light tea, perhaps a salad with some more ham, and more water.
Your sleep will be disturbed because all that water filters through during the night. But if you can \"snack\" every two hours or so on nutritious food, you will weather the operation much better than otherwise.
Good luck. Only 8 days to go! Then you can eat :cake: :choc: :cupcake: :bubbly: :donut: :ale: and more :cake:
Kind regards

I had my gallbladder out a week ago, and am recovering well. I followed the Rosemary Conley diet before my op because that is really low fat everything is 5% or less and I found that really helped control my symptoms, give it a try you can't live on toast and rice you'll die of boredom long before they remove your stones  Benji
