Gastric Band - Operation Buddies Required!

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi All

Today I had my consultation for a Gastric Band operation, having struggled with my weight since childhood.

I have around 10 stone to lose, although have been told it's likely the band will only assist me with 6 stone (being 50% of my excess weight)

I am obviously nervous about the op, and have been given a provisional date for mid February for my operation. I wondered if anyone could shed some light on their weight loss journey, and what I should expect.

Secondly, will anyone be having surgery around the same time as me that would like a Band Buddy for support? I'd love someone to share experiences with.

I look forward to hearing from you xx Becky xx

I'm now having loads of regrets and still anxious but it's changing, I'm starting to feel some excitement and anticipation regarding the journey I'm about to take smile

Good Luck Shelly x I drove down the night before and stayed in a local B&B went on my own.  Was so nervous.  Drove the next day about half a mile to the hospital and my Hubby got the train down the following day to pick me up and drive me home.  (I stayed a night for them to monitor my diabetes)  I was so nervous going in.  But once you check in answer questions to the nurse then a visit by the anethetist and a visit by Dr Super who puts you right at ease.  Im sure you will be OK x Its normal to be nervous but just think this is the start of the new you!

      Good luck Shelley!

You will be fine! You would be abnormal of you weren't petrified!

I was the same, I almost bottled out when I was lying on the table in theatres waiting for anaesthetic to kick in, quite a few people said they had to actually walk in and lie on the operating table, I wish I had been prepared for this, which is why I'm letting you know!

It's such a relief when you wake up the other side though!

Nerves are completely normal but just think of the long term you!

      X

    Hi Rebecca

I'm  having band surgery the second week of Feb.

i am quite nervous but I know it's gonna make a huge difference to my life as I have always been on a diet since I was a teenager.

It's  good to know that there is someone out there going through the same at roughly the same time, maybe we can help each other by comparing notes so to speak I

look forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best

    Hi everyone smile

It's done I only went down at 4 so been groggy n tired since I got back smile

I'm feeling exhausted but can't sleep so I thought if just drop u a line x it feels fine I'm only on paracetamol liquid a little uncomfy to move due to the holes in my tummy but nothing too excessive x the wind in my shoulder was bad for an hour or so in fact it was both arms but gripe water hAs helped massively x if I walk about I do feel abit nauseous but again I think that's exhaustion more than anything x I've had 2 cups of tea n water felt a little tightening but again just like being full smile looking forward to my yoghurt in morning lol x I've had a size 10 band n 4 mil already in smile

The surgical team were amazing mr li was adorable so calm confident he alieviated my anxiety and spoke in plain English about everything smile I'm a nurse and usually I get spoken too like I know everything and I definAtly don't so that was great smile the theatre staff n anaesthetist were even better really amazing with me and recovery staff the same I can't thank them enough. Only down fall was the long wait due to mess up on list and the day nursing staff my nurse was cold mathodical poor interpersonal skills generally appeared disinterested in being here and certainly did not take appropriate interest in me or the efficiency that her role demands, I will take that further! She never even told me her name! The night staff however are totally professional competent reassuring and very supportive taking time to explain why I feel this n that n what to do on discharge they r perfect. So that's me 7 hours post op x x hope my long message is helpful to someone x n again thanks for all your encouraging messages really helped x
