Gastric Band - Operation Buddies Required!

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi All

Today I had my consultation for a Gastric Band operation, having struggled with my weight since childhood.

I have around 10 stone to lose, although have been told it's likely the band will only assist me with 6 stone (being 50% of my excess weight)

I am obviously nervous about the op, and have been given a provisional date for mid February for my operation. I wondered if anyone could shed some light on their weight loss journey, and what I should expect.

Secondly, will anyone be having surgery around the same time as me that would like a Band Buddy for support? I'd love someone to share experiences with.

I look forward to hearing from you xx Becky xx

    Hi Rebecca,

I was banded on the 14th of February this year...

I have 7 stone to lose...

Just got in the scales after week 1 and I've lost 9lbs!!!!

Wounds feeling good, only a little twinge in the port wound if I bend over or roll over too quick!

Shoulder pain only there after I've eaten and only lasts a little while with a bit of movement and windmilling of the arms! (I feel the pain in both shoulders most times!)

I really like the complan shakes so am enjoying them. Am missing proper meat so am having meat flavoured soups for dinner which is working so far! Looking forward to the mushy food stage smile

Have my first app booked for the 24th March!

    How are you getting on?

      Hi Everyone,

Lost my long on details so not been able to post! I'm back though, and had my band fitted yesterday afternoon around 3pm.

In quite a bit of pain currently moving, hoping this is normal. It feels like someone is pulling downwards on my stomach. Can't get comfy to catch up on sleep, and just got home to my lovely bed! sad

Iv only had water and a little apple juice so far, but have lots of meds for the pain (although not really feeling like I need them currently)

I lost 11lb on my pre op diet so let's hope it's all positive here on in!

      Xx

Hi I had mine in Wednesday and all what your explaining is the same as I felt. Tummy at top feels very heavy.

I'm finding best way to sleep is propped up with pillows. Last night I managed 6 hours whoop whoop 😀.

I've tried soup and it went down ok.

Hope you manage to get comfy rest up as much as you can. Xx

      Hi Jasmine

Benenden were amazing, I have never felt so comfortable in a hospital! They looked after me like a princess, you will be absolutely fine. The room is huge, and the gave me so many meds to take home after that I'm sorted for life hehe!

I don't regret the surgery at all, is your surgeon Dr Hamouda? One thing I would say though is I did think the weight loss would be steadier than it is post op, but now all my swelling has subsided and I have no saline in the band I am feeling like I can eat way more than I should, and my weight loss has slowed.

I have lost 22lb in total, including the 2 week pre op diet weight, I have my first fill on 1st April.

You will be fine, hard for me to comment on journey as I am still only 4 weeks post op with no saline so not sure if it's gonna work or not yet hehe! But in terms of recovery my wounds are neat, I had no wind pain at all and didn't need any painkillers after day 2 so Dr Hamouda must have done something right!

      X Becky
