Generics, can they make you feel this bad?

I have been on Sertraline for 8 months, it has been a slow but steady journey, I have been feeling my old self finally. Then when I got my prescription I noticed that it was a different generic. I thought nothing of it, but gradually through the week I have been on a downward spiral, anxious and a bit low, and today I have not been able to stop crying. I cannot believe that in a week I could become so different, I realise now that it is from the 2nd day of taking them that I started to feel bad. I am desperate to know if anyone else has had this experience, I will, of course speak to my consultant tomorrow - but any help would be good!

When I was very ill my GP switched yo a generoc I didnt know.
After a few days was anxious and agitated with neck pain and stiffness .
Thought it was a relapse but my husband noted the switch in brand .Contacted my G.P who switched to another generic with the same outcome.
Was reperscribed Sertraline and fine again .Even mamaged to return to night duty.
Over last few months was switched to Lustral.Have double vison pain in my legs arms and generally sweaty and not sleeping .Pharmacist at my G P told me Sertraline was no longer available .Have taken Lustral for 3 months now reducing the dose to 50.
I am suffering badly from what seems like a type of reaction similar to being allwrgic .I am an NHS professional had no negative expectations re generics .
Having worked in psychiatry I am stunned to realise how ignorant we were on serotonin syndrome or allergic reactions .
I fully appreciate the need for financial savings and particularly in relation to perscribing .
What is the cost I rang around and find Sertraline is available .
The cost is I stop the antidepressants relapse have again not being able yo go out to work .
I have worked all of my life paid into the system all my life now am in this situation .Have been tried on many antidepressants Sertraline was amazing for me.

I have been on sertraline for 7 years
I took Bristol for the first 3 years
My mum used to give me the tablets so I had no idea about the brands but it was only after the 3 years that the chemist couldn't get them in anymore and tthey gave me lustral...! Well I started getting really bad feeling dizzy very low anxious , noise mind, suicidal thoughts etc etc .... she then got accord for me which was a little better... my mum was the one who did the maths and research and found out that if your sensitive brand matter ....
Read the ingredients
ingredients of bristol labs:
calcium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, hydroxyproplcellulose, macrogol, polysorbate-80, sodium starch glycollate type A, titanuim dioxide.
ingredients of accord:
cellulose microcrystalline, sodium starch glycolate type A, hydroxypropylcellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 400, polysorbate 80, titanium dioxise.
ingredients of lustral:
Silica, colloidal anhydrous
Cellulose, microcrystalline
Croscarmellose sodium
Copovidone
Lactose monohydrate
Magnesium stearate
Hypromellose
Hydroxypropylcellulose
Macrogol
Titanium dioxide (E 171)
Why do they all have so many different stuff in it if they are the same tablet?!
Now, I'm going to ask you this does galaxy chocolate taste like cadburys?!
The only way they can get away with calling is chocolate is because it both has coco in it...
The same with sertraline it has to have the main ingredient in it but it doesn't matter what else they chuck in to it as long as that 1 ingredient is in there ... some even have animal fat in it to bind it!
How do they know that all the other things they are putting in to it doesn't weaken or change the effect on the main substance ...
We are all Guinne pigs! We are squeeling out but they don't care who they harm as long as they are getting money!!

Hi,
Sorry to jump on such an old post! I am experiencing exactly the same thing. I changed from Ranbaxy brand to Accord and have had a week of increased anxiety, night sweats and sore throat
My questions are, this has only happened since taking 100mg. I was fine switching generic brands at 50mg and didn't notice a change, I was on it for 18 months. Also, has anyone stuck with the brand that they were switched to, and have the new onset of symptoms subsided?
Many thanks!
