I have been asthmatic for as long as I can remember and I am now 35 years old. For the last 15 years it has been well managed and I have only had to use Salbutamol every now and again - however the last 6 - 12 months I have become increasingly breathless - relying on my salbutamol inhaler at least 5 times a day.
I saw my GP and was put back onto becotide (brown inhaler!) and that is where I remained. I provided peak flow readings - approx 190 am and 230 pm - best recorded 250!
I have since changed doctors and have been to see the asthma nurse - I had to see her every 2-4 weeks for two months whilst my meds were changed but what a difference.
I have spent a month on Serevent and becotide and feel like a new person - peak flow now 380 am and 400 pm - best ever 470 today!!!
Seen the nurse again and now going to change to combo inhaler.
I am no longer breathless - I do not need to to have salbutamol n every pocket, glove compartment, hole. I have energy. I am not longer tired.

Yes, I have COPD, fibrosis and Bronchiectasis. All the result of TB 13 years ago that didn't get diagnosed until I was at deaths door. So it left my lungs in a scarred and damaged state. But I muddled along ok.
Then 6 years ago I started to cough up blood ocassionally. Then 3 years ago I had a life threatening Haemoptysis and followed that two months later with another massive one. There is nothing they can do for me. I had all the tests to see if I could have surgery but the answer was no as I would bleed to death on the table.
Woke up this morning at 6.30am and had a small Haemoptysis, and coughed a fair bit up at 1.30am today. Now I am scared and depressed that I will end up in hospital again. Not that they can do much, maybe change the antibiotics or give me IVs, but with my history, they mostly just monitor me for a few days. It seems to happen when I am asleep, so I'm trying to stay awake, but am so tired. It's 3.54am now so I might just make it. Seem to have run out of good dvds.
I stopped having the flu jab as I was always bad for a week or so afterwards. Cant afford to have them now as they would probably set of a bleed.
I put on a load of weight when I packed up smoking too. But a bit of extra weight is much better for you. I reckon your Husband loves you just the way you are now.
Hope all went well.

So Sorry I haven't replied to you sooner I have been under the weather, had the flu, both me and my two year old, so when I have been online, I did not notice your posting, my apologies xx
Yes I can understand with you not having the flu job as I had an adverse reaction to it too and I can understand that you would be effected more considerably, my father in law has been on a lot of anti-biotics due to chest infections, something that is not good to have with COPD I do hope you are having a better day today and you are have some relief Tessa and I hope you have all the support at home that you need too xxxxxx
Take care and chat soon xxxx
