Hi all

So having realised that from last operation i may not be well enough to get dressed/underwear on for a few weeks.

Well i got dressed leaving hospital but no underwear ...lol. Had op on Wednesday 18 feb

Small thing but makes a huge different to confidents and feeling normal again

      Hi joan

underwear was tricky trying to get operated leg in,other leg i used crutches to open underwear up so i could put leg in.

trousers was ok just when i dropped them i had to start all over again!!

does take time but ive learned if i can do it one day and not the next not to beat myself up over it.

      good luck with your operation

Lol Denise well done you. Going "commando " isn't for everyone especially in this cold weather.  I use my grabber for pants, getting pretty good at it, bad leg first.

getting shoes on is still a drag. I don't have anything that is slip on. This morning I had one boot on from 7am when my son left for work, with PJs. Meant when I needed to get ready to go to physio at lunch time I was half way there!

were you sent home from hospital with all the aids? Grabber, long handle shoe horn, crutches and raised wc seat?

      Hi vicki

when i left the hospital i actually forgot to put underwear in bag lol so commando it was lol

i had all my equipment from previous operation in April 2014 but have brought extra grabber for upstairs cause in dropping things lots!

One thing that really helped was getting elastic shoestrings for my shoes. It makes it much easier to slip on with the help of a shoe horn. Good luck!

Denise same here, I also took the extra grabber but left the rest. One grabber upstairs and one downstairs. Always feel like I'm bowing to the queen if I do the new hip reach down to pick something up routine without it. Feels like I should be wafting a lace handkerchief as I come up...

The reacher helps a lot when getting dressed, and I used it for underwear to get my legs in each side and to bring them up. And almost 3 months out I still tend to use my sock aid occasionally, which is absolutely wonderful.  If you don't have the sock aid, I'd get one right away.  The inventor of that should be a millionaire.

Great for you denise!!  i still have not put underwear on.  My incision is quite large and very tender to the touch still.  I ordered a larger size and waiting for them to come in.  I use my grabber for my pants also.  i'm hoping the larger size wont irritate me as much.  Happy to hear you had a good moment--you are right - its does make us feel "normal" again.  Ginny USA

Hi Denise my first op was 10/12/14 and my most recent(other leg) was 4/2/15. I had less bruising the second time around. First time I was blue of leg, although it cleared quickly, but worse was bruised pubic ridge. Thought they must had had me in a vice! Second time no bruising whatsoever on the leg and only very slight bruising of pubic ridge. It's fine now. I wish I'd got the gel ice pack sooner though. It feels great. Do you use them? Apparently you can get good deals on Amazon. I just got one for £6.99 at Boots. I'm laying on it now. It's just about ready to go back into the freezer. Hope you are progressing well. Keep posting.x

    Hi Denise

Well done.......you can come and shout to us instead of shouting it out the window cheesygrin

All the aids are a great help aren't they. Its wonderful that even the little things make us so pleased with ourselveswink

I've been using a sock aid for the past few months which has proved to be invaluable since I can't bend my leg enough to get socks on (1st THR scheduled for 4/2/15)...I also just bought a grabber which I will practice using before the surgery and have orderd a long handled bath sponge (from Amazon) to clean my feet and between my toes. I figure if I practice now it won't be as frustrating after the actual surgery.

      Dear Miele,

I'm finding it hard to wash my feet......  i wish i had thought of doing what you're doing prior to surgery.....  good luck to you!  Ginny USA

Amazon had some great sponges in all different shapes and sizes to use on your feet and between your toes. We'll see how that works out.

I wish you luck as well.
