Getting hip surgery abroad

Hi Guys,

I have long waiting times here in London and I am considering travelling to Turkey/India for my hip surgery. Does anyone have any experience with exploring/getitng it abroad. There is a ton of information online but nothing reliable. It would be great to know of some reliable service if you guys know any.

I am joining the chorus of those who think it's not a good idea. I have had complications after THR, still not walking without aids after 9 months, and plenty of pain in the hip/thigh area. I am having exploratory surgery there in a month, along with tendon repair. I have had so many appointments, both with the original THR surgeon, and with new surgeons in a different practice who will be doing my next surgery. I think it's best to get treatment close to home, at least in the same country! Just my two cents...

Sorry John I'm with everyone else on this huge op.  If going private just think spending a few thousand extra here and the benefits and piece of mind you would get, imagine spending all that money abroad and needing some back up from them the extra savings would soon be gone.  A small price to pay for the rest of your life.  Don't you have the NHS choices option I could choose where I wanted to go and got an appointment within a week and could have had surgery within 6 weeks had I not had to loose some weight.  Do consider it carefully it's the rest of your life that is at stake.

John, my therapist suggested private surgery for my son in Thailand or Canada if the second opinion surgeon didn't agree to do the procedure. Luckily, he did. Apparently, medical tourism is an industry in Thailand, and the facilities are topnotch and less than the US. It's just getting there and back that's the problem.
