Getting worried now ...

So it's been 5 months and not had one pain free day since. For the last week it seems to be getting worse . From day one I was in incredible pain and the surgeon seemed surprised . Wakes me every single night early hours morning with a deep nagging ache frontal thigh . Groin hurts, scar area very tender, all the muscles around scar are like concrete. Shoe insert done nothing at all. Hurts on getting up and getting into car very painful . I just want one blessed day where I don't feel the damn thing . I feel

Crippled . Ringing the surgeons secretary tomorrow to see when my

March appt is. Last time I told him it hurt he x rayed it and said it was perfect .

What is the next step hipsters? Do I ask for an MRI and will that show muscle damage ? Surgeon conceded the x Ray would not show that . I feel half my life slipping away and today just laying on bed trying to rest it sucking on co codamol and good for nothing . Think I will get my crutch out of the shed after too . I don't feel well today ... sorry to be such a negative I wish I could share in the positives but this seems to be going pear shaped . Cannot take any more time off work as was off for three months . Doctors don't want to know just dish out painkillers ...😣😣😢😢

Oh Hazel, how awful, you should not be in that much pain after this operation, no wonder you're feeling negative.  Even with my misplaced ceramic insert I've not been in pain since my operations.

You need to ask for a diagnosis of your pain, whatever the method (MRI etc.)  You need to leave tham in no doubt that you are in unacceptable pain, and that they need to come up with an answer and a plan for getting rid of it.  Maybe you just need to break down when you get there, have a good old sob in front of the doctors, make sure they know just how bad it is.

    Best Wishes

Love it Graham and I probably will . In my original 6 week check he was surprised I was in so much pain and said lots of people are pain free . Next check up x Ray ... looks perfect I have done hundreds of these operations speech . When I said I am in more pain now than before his last words were don't worry we will resolve this I promise so I am taking him at his word .. see what pans out next . I am no shrinking violet taking on the NHS so pull up your chairs and break out the popcorn .. could be a bumpy ride ! Thanks Graham

I'm so sorry.  All I can think of is to make a nuisance of yourself with the professionals.  There has to be a reason for the pain and it's their job to find it.  Best wishes for an answer x

Hi Hazel, sorry things aren't improving. What did the osteopath you've been seeing say ? I think I had my op about the same time as you and my recovery has been very slow too. Today I managed to walk a couple of miles including a few hills still using a stick. I'm ok at the moment but expect to be very stiff tomorrow. Slowly, slowly does it. Hope you get to the bottom of your problem. 👣

Hello Hazel, you poor thing.I know exactly where you're coming from.! Where did you have the op Done.?I think it's awful that all these doctors do is to give out painkillers.I have my Hubby who's on a rattle of Medstead for osteoarthritis, & I also had a hip replacement done two years ago nearly, but to be honest to cut a long story short mine has failed as I never had proper aftercare.I had no care plan in place properly. Sorry to rant.Anyway I would advise you to ask if your surgery do chhose&book, then get into your local Nuffield hospital & they will help you on the NHS.Regards Amanda

    Hi Hazel,

So sorry for you that this is how you are feeling.

Assuming you have been following the physio advice and keeping on top of your exercises.  Have you found any movements improving?  and have you found your muscles getting stronger?

I stuck to my physio plan religioulsy and had a private deep massage regularly from 3 months post op, I am now at 5 and a half months.

I found the massage hugely beneficial as my leg was like rock and had been for several years prior to my op, after the first session the skin and tissues around my scar softened and felt so much better.  My leg also felt more supple and more comfortable.  I have only recently done away with my walking poles and still find hills tough, but am finding tiny improvements as each week goes by.  Strongly recommend massaging the area around the wound site to help loosen your muscles.

Sending you all the very best and hope you get sorted out.

    Kindest regards x

Hazel your taking all the right steps. Keep pushing for answers and fight to never let the docs dismiss your pain.

Oh no hazel. I don't sound in a good way.

I was Abbie like that and I read how well people were doing and 6 months down the line I was still very sore with nerve pain and groin pain. U will start to feel better I am sure. I had to take my sticks out a few times after I thought I had got rid of them. And felt I was going back the way. Take plenty rest. Your job will still be there when you are dead and buried so don't think of that yet . I needed a good 8-9 months before I felt as if I was getting better.

I'm 3.5 years down the line and still feel sore at the slightest bit of activity and it is very disheartening I know. You may never get what u wished for , I didn't but that pain in your leg will go... they cut through 3 odd muscles to get to your hip and it takes a long while to heal. Try and do the exsersise they gave you and just keep trying. I know it's hard when it hurts . I can't really give any advice coz I'm still fighting with my own bloody pain and X-ray keeps coming back as fine. It is annoying . Guess I just wanted to say I know how u feel but it will get a bit better . Chin up xx

    Hi Hazel !

I am now 1 year 2 weeks post op and only now can walk a long way and pretty much do what i want to - it was my back specialist that told me in reality it is a year to heal !  I do still get pain though - when i do things i dont normally do eg swimming on holiday.

I agree that deep massage does help - and if like me you limped before the operation get a good sports physio to do your whole body - it has to adjust to the implant and 'realign' so the muscles really feel it all over.

Walking is also great - i was told by a friend who had the op before me walk as much as possible (without pushing too much) so i did - on the flat and this helped a lot also.

It is still early days so dont give up x

Thanks Anna very good info . Not doing much walking or exercises at mo cos of pain and I don't believe in pushing Thro pain barriers as I think it's your body telling you enough !

Good news is that although my appt was not until end march the surgeons secretary took pity on me and has slotted me in on 1st march as an add on . I may have to wait but that I will do .

Hoping to have some massage before then . I am off work with hip today and it struck me I feel today like I did about 10 weeks in .. little energy, feeling weak and leg acheing . Secretary asked had I slipped or fallen ? Er no I have been like this since day one !

Thanks for the advice .. I normally walk a lot which is one reason I wore my hip out but not done a long walk since the op as the leg sort of stiffens and refuses !
