globus - It will go away! - promise

In 2007 I suffered from Globus for 12 months - it got me really down- I couldnt enjoy activities that used to make me happy and was continually worried and thinking the worst.
I saw a number of GP's and got referred to a ENT specialist who checked my throat via a small nasal camera - all clear.
Despite my Dad having this for a while and reassuring me that it does get better I focussed on the symptom and expected it to arrive every day (which it did!)
Gradually it wasn't there one day then would come back - then it may disappear for a few days and then come back - it is a gradual process but once you stop obsessing about it , it will improve. I promise.
My GP treated it as a symptom of anxiety and prescribed prozac - which had no effect. Much as I hate to admit it - my fiancee was right to keep telling me to stop obsessing and try and focus on other things - it is the only way to beat this.
Somedays it still makes an appearance (infact thinking about it now I can bring on the sensation!) but you can make it go - focus on yuor good days and know that there will be gradually be more good than bad - it will go I PROMISE!

Hi Melissa-
I've only been on this site a few times. i was searching and found this site for swallow. Yes i started out like you with only liquids, soft foods. i was in the hospital for 6 days.
How did your's start? im worried about malnutrition at this point. i just spoke with a nutrition specialist to help with my weight and help get nutrients. i lost weight very fast
this site has some good info. stress is a big deal. ive been having physical therapy/osteopath and myofascial . it helps me greatly with my swallow, breathing, posture ect. its hard to not obsess as others have said.
it has gotten better but still there. I'm post menopause and other women have said menopause could contribute to this .
i hope you feel better soon.

I have had this now for about 7 weeks. I ended up and spoke to my doctor on the phone cos of Covid, only way he would treat me! He gave me tablets for acid reflux because I felt it the day of my birthday when out for lunch. I've been renovating my home for a year now and it's really getting to me now. The builder just comes and goes when he likes and I'm ready for screaming. Wondering if its stress causing the lump in my throat not reflux. One of my best friends has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and with Covid, living on my own, etc its all getting too much. I read about globus sensation and seems to tick all the boxes, but still fretting and worrying if it definitely is it and don't hold much hope with my doctor....

I have had Globus off and on for 7 months and like most of you it gets better when i lay down on my back when my mind is off it. but comes back under stress or getting angry or yelling so stay calm is my advise I have dieted and drink a ton of ice water too throughout the day but seem to sleep peacefully at night. i'm 49 years old and just a scope down my throat on the 15th of December 2020 with all my symptoms I was experiencing I thought I had Covid 19 but before my Surgery I was tested and it was Negative. So that was a relief! but now I like You Fight The incurable Globus Sensation and it Sucks. I find Popsicle Work to settle the lump and I can swallow it down until I get active again. so I lay here in bed day after day trying to keep calm with labored breathing at times. but it subsides and sometimes the Right collarbone and neck and chest area is painful moves side to side. I eat a lot of hot soup preferably chicken noddle broth.Works too. Stay away from Bread Caffeine Juice anything with Acid because it'll aggravate the Reflux and Globus Comes back. do not Smoke anything it just makes breathing harder. im on Busbar for Anxiety and Omeprazole for acid blocker and take 800 mg Ibuprofen for pains it helps. my daily routines have been interrupted because i just feel better laying Down. I'm hoping it goes away again so life can be normal again. Well I hope my advise helps in some way.

Olivia are you on your phone a lot? head down on my phone all day long for months at a time gave me this feeling of a tight throat and lump. lying down eases it. reflux acid really hinders it.

Hi i have been suffering with this for around 6 months now I try to think positive it will go for a couple of day... Then it comes back its so hard because I'm not someone that normally suffered from anxiety but my gosh having this gives me super high anxiety to the point where I think I'm close to having a panic attack. It feels like it goes a little in my chest at times and moves around my neck area... Does anyone have this? I try not to think the worst I haven't gone for the camera down my throat as I'm scared lol but when the neck is bad I keep thinking it's something worse than globus and it's that thought that brings on the panic and makes the symptoms worse!
I hope everyone gets through and over this myself included I really don't like feel this way and thinking this way 😦

please please please promise as this is getting me to the point of panic. Post Nasal drip GERD and Lpr have been mentioned. the doctors don't seem overly concerned but it's torture. Why is there no treatment?

hi Neil
the drs don't really have a good answer because the answer is pretty much lifestyle changes. Drs don't generally give out lifestyle advice.
just google reflux lifestyle changes you'll find something that helps you.

about a week ago, i got the shell of a popcorn kernel stuck in my throat. im almost sure that I got it out but now it feels like i have a huge lump in my throat. i have bad anxiety but dont take any medication for it. having this lump in my throat makes everything worse for me. some days are worse than others. sometimes i feel like i cant swallow properly which worries me. the lump feels bigger at night, which causes me to finally fall asleep at around 3am. i have a horrible gag reflex so im super scared to go to a clinic and have my throat scoped. if anyone has any ideas on how to help or even words of encouragement please dont hesitate !

Hello all
I've been having GS for about a week now, appeared all the sudden when I had to go for my annual check up with my doctor.
little back story, i am 45 with diabetes ( 3 years now ) i just had the most awesome little girl 8 months ago, already have a 8 years old son as well.
I've been super stressed out for the past year, unconsciously about the pandemic and other family issues and mostly becoming sick and leaving my family without a dad and the love I have for them.
That doctor appointment has been the last straw, obsessed she would find something wrong with me and i would die or something, been worrying for 3 weeks about that.
before having a family I was pretty laid back and nothing worried me much before and I think that the pressure of being important got to me, like I cannot possibly fail at this. No I don't regret having them 😀
like some mentioned before, I do feel better when laying down, while eating or doing something I really really enjoy, even the treadmill works a bit.
I am no doctor but to me it seems that it's about the subconscious fears taking over in the form of Globus, so powerful that it cannot be just in our head it had to manifest itself to be recognize and dealt with.
The stress of being stressed out and thinking about this thing choking us is definitely making it worst, like a vicious circle with no end to it.
I wish all of you good luck and for the ones who posted years ago I hope you got better.

Hi Guest!
I'm glad that you managed to deal with it in a positive way and solve the problem. You are also very kind to take the time and share your experience and positive thoughts with us here.
Unfortunately I'm dealing with something that is far more complex. My situation actually fits in globus sensation in many ways, but it did not appear from nothing, so unfortunately I can't assume it is a case of globus sensation. I wish I could, so much...
In my case, 6 months ago I suffered some sort of accident (still to determine what actually happened) when I was eating hard shell seafood, as lobster, crab, etc. A piece as sharp as a needle and as hard as a rock pierced my tongue. It was not from one side to the other, but it was a deep pinching. It was painful (as you easily understand) but I got no more than a few seconds of pain from it.
After this I also started feeling that maybe a fragment of the shell was probably stuck somewhere in my throat. After finishing dinner, I felt like something was not right. I assumed that a fragment got stuck in my throat. It was not very painful and did not make me feel as if something was pinching my throat (as a stuck fish bone) but definitely something was wrong.
So, since then, I have been dealing with this horrible sensation and symptoms that are in many ways compatible with globus sensation. But in my case there was an event that triggered the situation and so it makes it much harder for me to accept that it might be globus.
I already visited some doctors and did some exams. Here's the detailed situation: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/horrible-discomfort-in-throat-as-a-consequence-of-sinusitis--758807
Any opinions would be most welcome.
Thanks and king regards,
Anthony.
