Globus? What do I do?

Hi all,
I'm new to this site but have been trying to find some info about my throat problems and came across the discussions here. I had a case of tonsillitis about a week ago and during the course of my antibiotics, I began experiencing a lump sensation in my throat. It is CONSTANTLY there. I've barely slept, I have a nasty feeling when swallowing and the front of my neck feels tender. Already I am feeling depressed about it and am really struggling to cope with the symptoms.
My doctor did not seem to know what it was frankly and put it down to a part of the throat infection I had. She said it should clear in about 2 weeks but judging from my own research, I think I have globus. I don't know if/when this will clear up but the thought of having to deal with it constantly for a long period of time is really getting me down.
If anyone has any experience, prognosis info, suggestions... please help me out as have been tearful all evening.

Take heart. My globu s started about 4 months ago but I think it had been brewing for a while.I had swelling feelings in my throat, roof of mouth, tight band round my throat, strange numbness, difficulty breathing when I lay down.Doctor thought it was globu s and treated me with antacids which made no difference. He then treated me with anti anxiety pills and a nasal spray because I was swallowing a huge amount of phlemn. I was very down about it and thought I could not cope with this but praise God 3 months on the symptoms have 99% gone and it feels great. Try not to worry. It may take some time but hopefully you'll get help soon.Keep in touch with this group. It really helps. X

Hi Devorgilla,
Thank you for reaching out. I am glad your globus cleared up for you and I hope it doesn't return. I am trying very very hard to be positive and try to trust that it will go away in time but I keep reading a lot of this is down to stress and clearly right now, I'm incredibly low and anxious which likely isn't helping. It seems that for some people it goes away and for others it just doesn't. I do have a hiatus hernia and I have had my gallbladder removed but do not knowingly suffer from symptoms of acid reflux. I am however finding I am burping a bit with this. I don't have much faith in doctors really so I feel very alone right now. I am glad to know at least that's it's a common enough condition for people to be talking about it and sharing their experiences, but I can't say I'm too relieved to know it's nothing serious as the symptoms are rather debilitating... Intend to stay a part of this group as I feel trying to make others understand at the moment is frustrating. Thanks again for your kind words x

Hi, in your case it might be acid that's causing it.
I never thought mine would almost go. Hoping it will still be gone when I stop tablets. Yes for some it disappears and for others not. It really got me down. Hope you find a good doctor to help you. Take care.x

Hi, I'm going to see an ENT specialist tomorrow. I haven't been referred, am just taking myself! Will update once I've seen him.
How long have you had this for?
Thanks so much for your kind words

Update: Saw ENT specialist today - wasn't overly impressed to be honest. He said it was likely caused by a combination of the antibiotics I was on as well as possible acid reflux even though I've never had this before. I think it's mainly because I told him I have a hiatus hernia. Anyway, he told me he couldn't see anything dangerous or worrying, and he gave me omeprazole to counter any reflux. I don't feel too comforted really but I'm going to try and take each day as it comes. He seems to think it'll clear up on its own so God willing, this will hopefully happen soon.

Hi there
sorry... I haven't updated this post at all for quite a while. I've almost finished my month's course of acid reflux meds and for a while, i noticed an improvement but within the last few days, I've noticed the lump back a lot more; initially at bedtime but also again in the day too. It's been quite demoralising
I don't know why it seemed to get better almost to the point of being gone, and now has returned. It's such a bizarre condition. I think I have now had this much the same length of time as you
have you been to see a doctor or noticed any changes?

Thanks for replying, sorry to hear yours is back! I’ve been to the doctors twice and A&E once all 3 times seen 3 different doctors and they’ve all just felt my throat, looked down it and instantly said globus! I’ve asked for Endoscopy but they basically say I have no red flag signs so there not sending me for one.. it’s awful because I can’t stop thinking about it because I’m worried it’s something bad and they won’t do the camera so I can’t feel reassured! I find nighttime for me is the worse I can’t get comfortable in bed I feel the my throat is tightest and my chest when lying down so yeah getting to sleep is so hard! In the morning the first few hours are the best and then it all builds up as the day goes on again.. some days are worse then others but even on better days it’s still there! Eating and drinking is the only thing that takes it away but only whilst I’m eating or drinking then it comes straight back! Eugh it’s just awful if I new 100% it was nothing I could maybe try to start ignoring it but I’m just so worried the doctors are wrong x

Started feeling a lump in my throat a few weeks ago. I have been on an acid reducer since and it dulls the feeling a little but doesn’t help too much. Had an endoscopy done last week. Everything came back fine. Biopsy was normal. He recommended I go to a GI doctor to get the muscles of my esophagus tested and said certain blood pressure medicines can sometimes help. Waiting to hear back for the appointment for that. I am so frustrated daily. I feel it ALL the time, ALL day and I can’t believe this is just what I have to deal with. Any relief for anyone would be very much appreciated and if I find out any more info, I will be sure to share it here with you all.

Well don't worry too much. I had globus. Great doctor. Tried antacids first and that didn't work. Then tried anti anxiety pills and they definitely worked so maybe he's gone right to the exact cause. All my symptoms have almost totally gone. Trust your doctor. Mine said you don't need to feel anxious it's such an underlying condition. Anyway persevere it will get better. X

I said exactly the same to my doctor. He says you don't always feel that you are anxious but it is the body's way of communicating that you are. I too get anxious over health issues but I'm sure it's a deep down anxiety. I hate the word " globus" ! Sounds as though you have a good doctor.

Yeah I guess I need to trust my doctor it’s just hard with no actual tests. He prescribed me sertriline (not sure how to spell it lol) I only took one and it made me feel all funny and now I’m scared to take anymore 🙈
I just hope my throat feeling goes soon but I can’t see it just disappearing it’s been there 6 weeks now! Feel like I can’t even be excited for anything because it just holds me back with how uncomfortable I am..
thanks for your replies it does help speaking to people who are going through the same x
