Globus? What do I do?

Hi all,

I'm new to this site but have been trying to find some info about my throat problems and came across the discussions here. I had a case of tonsillitis about a week ago and during the course of my antibiotics, I began experiencing a lump sensation in my throat. It is CONSTANTLY there. I've barely slept, I have a nasty feeling when swallowing and the front of my neck feels tender. Already I am feeling depressed about it and am really struggling to cope with the symptoms.

My doctor did not seem to know what it was frankly and put it down to a part of the throat infection I had. She said it should clear in about 2 weeks but judging from my own research, I think I have globus. I don't know if/when this will clear up but the thought of having to deal with it constantly for a long period of time is really getting me down.

If anyone has any experience, prognosis info, suggestions... please help me out as have been tearful all evening.

Hi Jade, Since taking anti anxiety tablets my symptoms have 99% disappeared so I'm feeling relieved. It's not a nice condition and can be very upsetting.I occasionally have times of constant swallowing but compared to the globus that's nothing. Never heard of it before. I hope everybody gets the help they need.x

Have just come back from my second ENT appt with another specialist - I was much more impressed with this man. He genuinely seemed to care and was far more professional!

I feel a bit more reassured but the sore throat I have is still really decreasing my quality of life atm... not sure what I can even do about that. The specialist did mention just how common this is - he said about 2 people in every clinic he has will have globus symptoms. That reassured me a lot - I hope it reassures you guys too. A lot of us experience this!

    How is everybody doing?

Someone asked if it's any better at certain times of the day - for me definitely worse in the evening and at night but I do have the symptoms constantly.

I feel like my symptoms are getting better in the day still very much there but better but as the evening goes on it’s still gets worse but I’m finally sleeping a lot better I just hope it don’t come back to the chocking feeling when laying down! I think my new anxiety meds may be finally working!

Just waiting my endoscopy now but slowly learning to live with the feeling and hoping eventually it goes for good!

I’m new to this and my doctor has prescribed antidepressants. It’s great to see a story where they have helped.

I hope they will take the edge off me thinking it is cancer too and panicking so much. Thanks for sharing

Yeah they have honestly worked and I didn’t think they were going to I honestly thought I was going to have to live with this forever! I’m aware it could come back but I feel abit more rested in thinking it’s not something bad because if it was something bad it would be there 24/7 it wouldn’t give any resting times..

Hope your tablets work for you xx

Yeah it is a relief .. I’m waiting my endoscopy letter to come through which could take weeks and I’m like what if it’s completely gone do I still go for it or do I cancel it?! 🙈 The book sounds good hopefully some good tips on there and will hopefully make sense of things..

hoping your omeprozole works for you hun

I would get into a ENT but in the mean time get a Barium swallow and a ultrasound for your throat to put your mind at ease while waiting to get into a ENT. Also get your doctor to swab for bacterial and viral infection and blood tests first if nothing shows up with the swab and blood test then get those other 3 things going. The longest wait will be for a ENT in most places. I waited for 8 months.
