i have been on tramadol for about 5 years now before surgery high doses after surgery low doses, first time I did cold turkey wasn't so bad only had the shakes this time round wow never taking tramadol again.

First day fully off tramadol was on Saturday the flu symptoms was horrible felt good while was out walking as soon as I stood still I just wanted to sit down on day 4 now and still feel hot and cold am beginning to eat a little more each day which is helping just hate what I am putting my family through.

Just make sure anyone being offered tramadol thinks about the long term affects and speaks to there doctor about the addiction of them and the withdrawal after its not nice.

I found tramadol to be an excellent pain reliever and had used it successfully for a couple of years but was having profuse sweats which my gp blamed on my hrt (i had a hysterectomy in my 30s).

However after some good results from spinal epidurals i decided to stop the tramadol.

I did not know to wean off and boy was i ill!

I ended up urgently visiting the gp and he set a very very slow wean off programme for me.

    It took weeks.

I would not want to go on it again.

And guess what? The sweats went when the tramadol did!

Wean off very slowly and u will be ok :-)

Coming off of Tramadol is extremely tough.  The withdrawals are horrible, and they last for weeks.  But it is possible to stop taking it for good.  I was dumb enough to do it twice.  The only way to come off of Tramadol is to slowly taper off a little at a time.  If you have withdrawals, coming off cold turkey feels nearly impossible.  One of the worst withdrawals is the extreme restlessness, making it nearly impossible to sleep for weeks.  Tramadol stays in your system for a long time.  You will need to taper off slowly until you are down to a half a pill a day.  Then you may need to take that 1/2 pill for over a week until you are albe to come off it 100% and not have bad withdrawal symtems.  Or you can see how long you can eventually go without taking a pill, and then only take a 1/2 pill when you feel the withdrawal systems coming back.  Again, tramadol stays in your system a long time.  This is not a quick process, but I promise, it's doable!
