    Hi Lynn,

Well its probably all over by now so no more stressing for you!  Its quite normal to be apprehensive.  As we al know it is not a pleasant operation but listen to the physio's and I am sure you will be out of there in no time.  Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery biggrin

      Hi Lynn

Great to hear from you......now you will ne able to tell newbies how easy it was LOL

Of course you'll find things that are hard to do at first but yu'll find your own way.   Getting into bed......If you have a choice of either side.....get in on the side where your unoperated leg goes up first.....the easiest way to do it {from my physio} is sit on the bed with your legs hanging, jiggle yourself back as far as you can while in that position. Then put the unop leg up {that should be easy enough} then the other one. If you are really struggling could you hold your leg and help lift it in? or get them to make you a sort of sling that you can hook around your ankle and pull that leg in.....it wont be for long.  They fashioned a sort of sling for me at the beginning.....when you get home use a scarf or something if they havent given you a sling.....like i say it wont be for long

      Love

      Eileen

    Great news. Well done.

My physio said that the secret of getting in and out of bed was to get the backside well onto the bed before try to swing the legs and it helped. Also, if you have an electric bed make sure it is really flat before you start.  It gets better with time and practice though.

Hi Lynne good to hear your on the mend, the easiest way for me for getting in and out of bed was hook your good foot under your bad foot and use it as a lever worked for me !!

Hi Lynn im glad its all over for you and your starting your recovery well. Tell me though did you have the sedation with the epidural and if you did what was it like. Im still pondering whether to be totally awake or sedated. Hope you have plenty of helpers at home. Take it easy x

Hi Essexmad I had epidural and sedation it was brilliant having watched a THR operation afterwardsvI would personally want o be awake lots of noise and lots of tugging you around ......... Just saying !

Hi Lynne, so. Glad for u that it's all over !!!  The physios that I work with give patients a special leg sling to get the bad leg into bed. It's kind of stiff and looks like a dog lead with an invisible dog !! You sit on the bed getting your bum back as far as you can, get your good leg up first then use the leg sling with your hands and lift the bad leg onto bed. With a little practice it gets much easier I promise. I work in rehab and and see how successful this is. Keep up with your exercises but don't overdo it !!! Wishing you a speedy recovery. xxxxx
