Going to take 75mg Dosulepin for anxiety - Experiences?

Hello

I am currently coming off Mirtazapine as the Doctor has prescribed me Dosulepin. I seemed to be dizzy and the anxiety on mirtazapine seemed worse after 4 months on them ! I am no longer depressed tho.

I have tried Citalopram previously and had such a nasty reaction to the first tablet (panic, sweats, didn't sleep for 3 days) that the Doctor said they didn't agree with me.

He has prescribed me 75mg of Dosulepin, I guess I am anxious about taking them and if I will still get to work okay. Do they help with the anxiety and sleep issues? Its a mone field when your anxious about taking meds!! :?

Thank You for your answers

    Hi Colin

The depression has lifted and I am now just left with mild anxiety which I am hoping will settle down. I'm on 100mg at night. The last few days another problem has begun to make my anxiety slightly worse its the car.I am very happy to drive, but the problem is when i get home. We live on a busy main road which is quite narrow. I have to reverse onto a narrow drive. The problem is when I pull up to reverse onto it I quite often end up blocking the road and no room to reverse. People think I am blocking the road for the fun of it. Last summer a man got out of his car and approached me, he was very angry so I had to lock the car doors. The abuse I get is awful and I never know if they are going to get out of there car. This is causing me a problem again now as I have had to do a lot of driving recently.

Are you sensative to all tabs or is it just the antidepressants. How are your aches and pains?

Its sunny here this morning hope it stays so that I can take the kids out this afternoon to the local country park.

    Don't work too hard.

    Take care.

    Hi everyone,

My depression started 3 years ago when i was 7 months pregnant... I was extremely anxious and had this fear of something going wrong with my baby (everything went fine and i have a beautiful healthy daughter). Anyway, i started having panic attacks..the worst feeling i have ever felt.

The doctor described me Mirtazapine and like guest 28 described, I had out of body experiences, it just made me have more panic attacks than before i started on this med.

After 3 terrible days i went back to the doctor and ever since i am on dosulepin.

I am not depressed anymore but i'm scared to stop and feel that anxiety/ phobia feeling again.

    Hi,

Its been a long time since I was on here, I got your message sent to me and I thought I would reply to you.

Are you still taking the dosulepin? I am.

Are you being told to stop the dosulepin by your doctor?

    How is your daughter?

Hi Lizy, just read your message after all this time!

Thank you so much for your reply.

Well my depression got worst after a year on the dosulepin so my doctor prescribed me citalopram which I'm still taking it.

I wouldn't say I'm cured, some days are better than others. But it's definitely working better than the previous medications.

My daughter is fine, thank you.

Are you still taking medication? How have you been feeling?

I SO agree with the below post which I have italicised. I love it that you say TCA's and benzodiazapines are the gold standard for anxiety/depression! My shrink says this about TCA's. have been on nearly every SSRI and SNRI for anxiety and depression since 1987 till now and they ALL ended up making my anxiety worse in the long run. I've lost jobs due to this. My career and personal life has been stunted. I don't seem to handle SSRIs. I am currently (4 weeks now) on 20mg Lexapro mornings and 2mg Xanax (half mg 4 x day) and once again my anxiety has escalated to the point where I feel like I can't breathe and I can't sit still today. Almost feels like manic depression. Have just been blubbing down the phone to a friend (huge relief to actually be able to cry) due to anxiety, NOT depression. I have been on Dosulepin in the past and plan to cross taper back to that drug. The main reason I tried the Lexapro this year is 'cause it helps with the hot flushes (we just had an unbearably hot summer in Sydney) and insomnia from menopause, my new friend. But I think the anxiety is the most terrifying symptom of all and plan to gradually cross-taper back to a 75mg dose of the TCA, stay with the Xanax and see how I go. Maybe the hot flushes and insomnia won't come back. Maybe they will. But would rather have this than the abject terror I currently experience.

Good luck to all fellow anxiety/depression survivors. Never never give up. Nelly xx PEACE be with you all.

"Uncannily been on the exact same meds as you, Mirtazapine was a nightmare, .....I had out of body experiences and felt trapped in my own body, also my head felt like a steal mallet. I have been on EVERY ssri and snri and benzodiazepines for anxiety/social phobia and none of them worked fully. Fortunately I have a really understanding doctor (Trycyclics are rarely prescribed these days because they don't have a patent anymore and are generally cheaper meds) Dosulepin is a wonder drug for me, ....I feel normal and no longer have an avoidant personality disorder. First couple on nights you will sleep like a baby, ....so set your alarm lol. You might feel a bit drowsy so that is why you should take a pill at night.

I'm on 75mg like yourself. I honestly recommend you give this drug a shot. TCA's are much much much more effective that SSRI's, ....don't believe the double blind studies you read about, .....because A. They aren't blind and B. Drug companies play down the efficacy that people have had on the placebos. 70 -75 percent benefited from SSRI and 40 -45 percent benefited from the placebo, ....so that is 30 -35 percent success rate.

TCA's MAOI's and Benzodiazepines are gold standard for Anxiety/Social Phobia and depression."

    Hi everyone,

    I am a 52 year old male.

I needed help with anxiety and sleep issues and Dosulepin has really worked for me.

I started back in 1997 (when it was named Prothiedin).

The dosage back in 1997 went as high as 300mg and it took 4 weeks before I felt it's effects. It seemed forever at that time but I am soooooo happy I persevered with it as it has changed my life.

I still take 125mg nightly. I take it regularly at 10pm and I sleep soundly all night. I arise at 7am and after having a shower, and after a brisk 20 minute walk I find I am not drowsy when I walk into the office at 9am.

I have an annual blood test to check there is no adverse affect on my liver, and the liver is fine/it has never changed.

The good night's sleep and sedative effect means I do not need any other sleeping aids. I do not take any other medication.

I can't speak highly enough about it.

It is hard to say as I have always put on weight if I was eating too many carbs and not exercising regularly.  My partner and I are careful-ish with our diets and we aim to do 10,000 steps a day.  As far as exercise go I am helped by having a Cocker Spaniel who needs 2 walks a day and this gets me out.  I also join every now and then a hiking group for walks.

No we decided to halt it for now and I like and occasional drink, night out and cant drink alcohol at all while on this even though I could drink it on SSRI's and Lyrica etc
