Going to take 75mg Dosulepin for anxiety - Experiences?

Hello

I am currently coming off Mirtazapine as the Doctor has prescribed me Dosulepin. I seemed to be dizzy and the anxiety on mirtazapine seemed worse after 4 months on them ! I am no longer depressed tho.

I have tried Citalopram previously and had such a nasty reaction to the first tablet (panic, sweats, didn't sleep for 3 days) that the Doctor said they didn't agree with me.

He has prescribed me 75mg of Dosulepin, I guess I am anxious about taking them and if I will still get to work okay. Do they help with the anxiety and sleep issues? Its a mone field when your anxious about taking meds!! :?

Thank You for your answers

I have been taking dosulepin for over 20 years (was prothiaden when I first took it I think). It has given me a life. Doctors still sometimes say that I should come off it but I won't change as it has worked so well for me.

I started on Dosulepin then after a few months changed to Mirtazapine because the doctor thought they would make me less drowsy, I didn't like having to dissolve them on my tongue but I did feel more awake in the day I was on 30mg but after a few months my anxiety came bk full force and I found myself housebound, thank god I got a appointment with my own doctor who originally diagnose me he put me back on Dosulepin and uped my dose to 150mg before bed two 75mg tablets, a yr on and my anxiety is still there but manageable I still feel drowsy sometimes but it's worth it!! To be honest on a lower dose if you sleep well at night drowsiness shouldn't be that big of a problem for you and Dosulepin are fantastic for controlling anxiety hope they help you =D

I was on dosulepin (Prothiaden) for 13 years however with the onset of menopausal hot flushes, night sweats and insomnia it was no longer efficacious so I had to switch to an SSRI, Lexapro, which stops the night sweats.  Unfortunately I have great difficulty sleeping on most SSRIs so have to take 50mg of quetiapine (antipsychotic) to help me sleep through the night.  One thing leads to another.  I can't function without adequate sleep and also become more depressed and confused so both the Lexapro and quetiapine are lifesavers for me at the moment.  I just hope I don't have to take them forever.  I once tried coming off the Lexapro and had severe discontinuation syndrome.

I actually think that my brain got so used to sleeping reasonably well on the dosulepin after 13 years that changing to the SSRI Lexapro upset my sleep, even though sleep was upset by menopausal symptoms also.   It may take longer than the 9 months I've been on the Lexapro for my brain to adjust.  In the meantime I'll keep taking the quetiapine 50mg to help me sleep as it works and I have no side effects from it.  I was going insane not sleeping!

I bet you was. I have to have enough sleep to function.. I think i will just resign myself to taking them  as i can't come off them

Sorry for the longish message but please read it/ help me....

My mum had been taking dothiepin, now called dosulepin, for about 30 years. She tapered onto mirtazipine, getting up to 30mg but went down to 15mg due to tightness in her chest and shortness off breath. But then suffered from diarrhoea for 3 weeks and felt very drained and not well. She asked her gp if she could go back to dosulepin and he said she could and to stop cold turkey for 4 days then go back to the dosulepin. She was on mirtazapine for about 2 months in total. After stopping for 4days she took dosulepin 25mg for 2 days and has been on 50mg for about 4 days. However after stopping mirt for 4 days and as she started back on dosulepin, she has been suffering from severe restlessness and anxiety. She is shaky and panicky as well as crying most of the time.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and how long did it take for the side effects to ware off.

Please advise/ help. I need to reassure her that she will get better soon.

The gp shouldn't have said she could just stop like that.

Hi, I think if she perseveres for 2 weeks back on Dosulepin she will be ok. Its probably because she has mixed up her medication. Ive never been able to come off my meds and i'm quite happy taking it as ive done for 14 yrs
