Hi has anybody got anything good to say about venladex (venlafaxine) 75mg ? I'm trying to come off mirtazapine because of massive weight gain and my doctor has prescribed me with venladex 75mg , just seem to read horror stories about this drug , there must be some positives ?
Any info would be great thanks 😃👍

Hi Murv. I have taken 300mg venlafaxine and 15mg mirtazapine since July 2015. I now have my life back and I'm happier and sleeping better than I have been for years. I have put on about 15 pounds, but now I seem to have stopped gaining. I would like to lose a few pounds, but it's not a big deal. I hope you will do well on the venladex. Please let me know how you make out.
Take care,
Phyllis

Seems to be working well for me. It took at least 6 weeks to kick in. No major problems. I'm on 45mg of mirt also.
Don t concern yourself with the horror stories. They work well for loads of people.

Where are all these people Sarah? Since being on this forum, you're only the second person I have come across. Apologies if you know these "loads of people" but I doubt it.

Hello Debra
There are alot more than 2 people who have benefited from ven on this forum. If I remember correctly you were on it fors years and have struggled coming off. I suspect it helped initially. Withdrawals are an issue with all mental health meds and I am aware ven is particularly hard.
As for the loads of people there are many on this forum....phylisis above. Pruedobermann and many more. I work in mental health and volunteer for woman experiencing perinatal mental health issues. They have quite literally saved many peoples lives I have worked directly with. Some have come off slowely and, struggled some have not struggled some are still on it. But none that it worked for would change the fact they took it. There are some it does not work for of course as with any med.
I find it is people withdrawing.....often too fast....who refer to this as poison often having found it benefitial for years.
If you look up any mental health med there are people saying it is poison and should be banned. People generally only come and comment on forums when things go wrong or when they are withdrawing. All those with no problems feel no need to post.
I am no fan of meds but for some....me included....they can save lives and the benefits have to be weighed against the very real negatives. Every case is different. In an ideal world none of us would need meds but we do not live in an ideal world.
Your experience is yours don t assume it will be everyone's.

I agree with you Sarah, some of these meds are indeed life-savers, and that's no hyperbole IMO... and if one is feeling OK on them, one is not inclined to go on forums so much, selfish as that may sound...
These powerful drugs are not a 'cure' and are not marketed as such. For some though, it's literally the difference between life and death... as for being 'dangerous' - everything and anything can be 'dangerous' depending on the situation. Driving is statistically more dangerous than taking these meds but cars aren't removed from society despite the well known every day risks associated with them...

Hi Debra. I couldn't read all of your reply to Sarah because it was deleted by a monitor. I did see the first part though where you mentioned she must have been brainwashed by the medical and pharmaceutical communities. I do know that I was in hell until my doctors found the meds that worked for me. I got my life back and I'm happier than I have been in years. I'm also sleeping well. I have been on these meds since July 2015 with no bad side effects or relapses. If, as you seem to believe I am brainwashed, then at least I am able to enjoy my life again and isn't that really the most important thing?
Take care,
Phyllis

My psychiatrist committed me to the hospital for eight days so he could monitor my progress while he adjusted my meds and dosages that worked for me. I didn't have any bad side effects though. I had a couple of minor side effects that went away quickly. My doctor monitors my cholesterol and I take Crestor to help bring it down. That is the only side effect I have now and it's not a serious concern.
