GreenLight Vs Urolift

Hi

I live in Toronto, Canada. I have been suffering with BPH for the past five years. I am 54 years old with no children and don't expect to have children. I am faced with two options. Take the greenlight surgery which is completely free and is paid by the government health insurance. The other option is to do the Urolift, but it will cost me $10000 which is not covered by insurance and has to come out of my own pocket. $10000 is a lot of money for me. I am not sure how long the urolift will last and if my prosate will keep on growing even with the urolift in place.I really don't know what to do. Hoping that you'll can give me some suggestions.

Even though I took Physiology and Anatomy in college, it did not occur to me that in Greenlight they destroy your ejaculatory ducts and so their is no prostate to carry the sperm. Not very happy about that. But you remember and they do not know why I had urinary retention and my kidneys were failing and they had to do emergency catherization and so my M.D. said I had no choice. Probably could have left catheter in longer, but anyway, it feels so funny not have sperm come out of the penis. I can not second guess it, but maybe I rushed it. I feel upset and unhappy.

Mark  I think you did rush into it but what done is done.  You should have left the catheter in or do CIC and got a second opioion.   I think the doctor rush you into it.  He should have try to fix the bladder and kidney.  When a urologist can't find out what the problem is they assume that it's the prostate and start cutting away at it  I'm glad you can still have sex because it could have been worse  Take it easy  Ken   My doctor will never do that to me.  I do not give full control to them when I have a surgery.  You do what you say and nothing more.  I have told doctor my prostate is not to be cut or removed  I was bleeding and having bladder spasm I would not have the surgery until he sign the paper.  Took him 30 minutes    Take care  Ken

I found this forum today to be very interesting.  I have been on flomax for 4 years..kinda works, but my urologist says i retain 400-800 ml, which can cause my bladder to become "stretched out and not flexible".  He hinted that this could be causing some belly bloat.  Otherwise, i can usually control urination and ejaculation is half as good as before and with only tiny ejaculate.  He is recommending green light but I have read about  urolift now and will do more research. Thanks to you all for your inputs.

If you are in the UK Green Light is now the procedure of choice for the NHS with an expected 13,000 procedures a year..

Dave thank you for the reply.  Urolift may work for you.  It is one to try before you do something else that cuts away at the prostate.  It does the same as all the other procedures  It make a tunnel and relaxes the bladder.  Get as much information you can before you do anything.  Take care  Ken  PS  Find another pill and get off Flomax.  Tell your doctor you want something else.  See if he will give you Myrbetriq.  Your lucky that you have any ejaculation on Flomax.  Ken
