Groin pain 5 weeks after hip replacement

Can I have some advice please? I had a rthr 5 weeks ago and for the last week I have had terrible groin pain in that hip on the pubic side - it's enough to keep me awake at night.

Any ideas what this maybe. I am feeling. My recoveryis slow anyway.

thank you.

The groin pain is part of the recovery process....it is quite natural to feel like things are lagging...it takes a lot of discipline to rest and allow our body heal

Some like ice, some prefer heat. Especially use heat to warm the muscles before exercises...they will move easier when warmed.

Five weeks seems like an eternity when you hurt...

Morning Chrissy. I am so sorry you are experiencing such difficulties. I had the groin pain too a few months after surgery. I had a rhr back in July. 3 weeks later I find out I dislocated it and had to have a total hip revision. Was 6 weeks non weight bearing and no hip exercises or hip flexion past 80 degrees. Have you tried icing the area? Also massaging all in the groin including the back where thigh meets butt. Also use heat. I hope you find relief and get back to walking. Don't give up I know it's hard believe me!! I'm going through nerve pain now. It's terrible as anything that touches my thigh bothers me!! I've had 2 injections, using voltaren cream and another nerve pain cream and taking lyrica. It's getting better but it's hard some days. Prayers going your way. Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery and healing. Hugs 🤗 LD

Thank you Linda God speed in your healing. My doctor has taken a ton of x-rays and it's not dislocated, and they went to get the fluid out with ultrasound and they didn't see anything wrong yet I really can't walk without being in horrible pain. You know they tell you what the anterior approach your back to work in 6 weeks and really there's no follow-up from the doctors which I think is just horrible for major operation

Thank you. Chrissy where are you from? Unfortunately for me I'll never know how the anterior would be, first operation was anterior second he had to go in side of hip. Is the pain in the groin only?

Im in Florida , US. The pain is constant now because of all the information but primarily it's from walking and sitting , especially bending from the waist while sitting it feels like there's a great big knot in my groin. So I really feel that there's a muscle that must have gotten torn during the surgery because the anesthesia stays in your tissues for about 3 weeks and that's about the time it started hurting. I'm so sorry you had to go through this twice I don't think I could be that strong. I just need and want to go back to work.

Sara,I am in the same situation. The pain at night keeps me awake. I went to Dr. He says it is a pulled ligament. To take ibuprofen for it I am supposed to return to work in 2 weeks I don't see it happening.

Hi Polly,This is my first discussion  forum, I hope  I follow the correct protocol, your comments were the most recent I could find, I  am at 6 weeks after total hip replacement and Im told Im doing well, but in the last 2 weeks I am having terrible groin pain when I lay down , exactly the sharp stabbing pain that has prevented me from working for 15 months , ( for a man it is similar to being struck hard in the genitals ) , I have just turned 60 . The public health system here in Perth Australia is great if not a bit slow, but I  feel  alone and scared as  I am still waiting for physio at our local hospital , I feel left in the dark, and depression is growing , with no circle of friends or family to speak to , I sleep too much from the bed to the sofa all night and most days. I was given a three basic exercise diagram hand out and now I try to walk a little without the sticks, can any kind person advise . Thanks

hi this is also my first forum, i found it by looking for other people suffering pain after s hip replacement . I'm almost 7 weeks post op, was given lots of exercises to do and have been doing great but same thing groin discomfort but now that i've tried walking without my crutch im finding im getting worse pain in groin but also where the thigh joins the lower abdomen. ive now started using my crutch again, ive also had really bad pubic bone pain. so far ive found the physiotherapists useless and have no confidence in them. im going to go and see the progress physiotherapist to see if they can help. let me know how you get on, its easy to get fed up when you feel you've had an op and just left to get on with it. would be better if you was told what to expect.
