I am 84 years old and had TURP 7 weeks ago, yesterday I had major bleeding. Wondering if any one had similiar condition. Dr doesn't seem worried and said I'll take care of it. Shouldn't I be healed by now? Also how safe is long airplane trips after procedure

You may have had a scab fall off. If bleeding persists, seek medical help. After 7 weeks I had no bleeding. Been 4 months for me and all is great. No side effects at all.

I though about it but I have not had any bleeding at all Dr said don't worry about it. I did see a scab like clot in the blood. Thanks.

You will see them. Or pieces. As it heals a scab will fall off, another forms. They get smaller and lighter in color. Don't strain or lift anything. That will cause the plug to come off and bleed.

That's my concern too. I haven't really seen any scab coming off. They all say three four weeks after surgery, be on the look out for it.  Dr says don't worry you won't see it, so wondering. Thanks

Won't look like a scab you would get on your skin. Look more like a piece of skin or material from the surgery. May come off in small pieces to. Real small. When you pass them sometimes you won't feel a thing. You just see it. Even larger pieces don't hurt.

Every man reacts to what is still major surgery differently, and I am sorry to hear you have not been lucky so far.

Bleeding can still occur for weeks, even months afterward, and you should be immediately given blood test to determine if your blood is adequately clotting. Any problem can be easily addressed. I would warn, however that yorcage counts against you, and you should adopt quite a conservative exercise regime.nplenty of it m7nd you, but gentle.

Ask your Dr about flying, but my suspicion is it would be discouraged, most definitely long - distance. Wish you the best

Thanks, I am being cautious now, but how long, you know I gotta start somewhere. I thought seven weeks was okay. Dr said three more weeks the last time and this happened.  Will see Dr next week to remove Cather. So  probably he will lecture me. Thanks.

You had a catheter for 7 weeks you have to be carefull with not to pull it Make sure you put some kind of cream at the tip or on the catheterso it will not be to raw you can bleed from that to.  Ken

No, I just had the Catheter inserted to clear up the blockage from the bleeding. Will remove it coming monday. I've been putting cream twice a day after cleaning area. Thanks.

Sorry you are having problems...If you are on any type of blood thinning regiments..aspirin,Warfarin  etc...these blood thinners could ,make it more difficult to alllow for quciker healing. Also supplements like garlic, tumeric etc are also blood thinners..Good Luck & God Bless

I had turp done twice.  I am 68 years old.  I don't think you have anything to worry about.  7 weeks is a short time.  After I did  my turp, I bled daily for weeks, maybe months?  It's been 9 months since I did my last turp, and just a few weeks ago, I had blood in my urine.  Along with the blood, was a piece of tissue or blood cloth, I don't which, that came out with the urine, while I urinated.  It's all clear again, so that's where I'm at.

Tell me about blood cloth. Does it look like  a sheet of tissue coming out? I think I had that when I had my major bleeding episode. over a year ago. When I tried to explain to uro he gave me this look rolleyes

I assume you meant blood clot. But seriously I looked like I was peeing sheets if skin.

Yes! I also explained that to my uro, and he knew exactly what I was talking about. It happend quite frequently during the healing period.  My uro, I believe is very skilled in what he does. He is really busy, so not much conversation time, but as far as his skill level, I believe he has very good hands.

Yes, that's a good way to describe it. Clot cheesygrin  My spelling, is terrible!  The clot, is very soft and flexible in its appearance.

Sorry to hear you had to go through it twice. I visited my Dr last week and he said I'm still retaining to much so he wants to scope and take a look inside. Than this episode of bleeding happened. Hope  he doesn't find a major blockage requiring surgery. I feel flow has definitely improved from before surgery.

It was actually three times.  the first was the greenlight laser surgery, which lasted for around 2 years.  I started to have a hard time urinating, so I did the turp...twice in 12 years. Hope all goes well with you. Where are you located?

So were you peeing what to be sheets of skin or clots? I had both. At the time I thought I was peeing out my bladder lining. Crazy sounding I know.

Could be your bladder just has to learn how to empty itself. After having bph your bladder gets used to not emptying. Could be your prostate collapsed back down. Maybe doc left to much material . Good docs only take out what's needed. They don't go nuts. Especially around the bladder neck. Mind had to go back in and take out a little more. Was nothing compared to the first time. Bleeding stopped in 2 days. Didn't pass any clots. Everything came out in the Cath I had in. It was in half a day.

Living in Kaneohe now.  Nice and green, and most ot the time, cool when the Trades are blowing.  My Dr. is in Pali Momi. I've been going to him for maybe 14 years now.  I guess it will be a lifetime for me.  Good thing he is younger than I. What part of Aiea, are you living at?

I'm familiar with Halawa Heights.  In fact last year we had my wife's 62nd birthday party up at Camp Smith.  Nice restaurant, over looking Pearl Harbor.  That market, was there when I was in High School!  Some things don't change.
