    Hi

It's now 6 months sinced I had my hip replacement and I actually forget I've had it done!  I was amazed at how fast it healed over the initial 6 weeks after the op.  I think the having to sleep on your back through those first few weeks are the worse thing but it's a necessity and woe betide if you accidentally roll onto your side, I feel your pain!

I hope you sail through post op, as I did.  Good luck and make the most of any help you can get. x

      Hi there claire,

you say its been 6 months since post op.....  are you able to walk at a normal pace by now?  its been 4 weeks for me post op and i can walk with out a cane slowly.  i hobble a bit because my length is off a bit, but sometimes i feel i will never walk normal again....is that just in my head?  lol  Ginny.

Hi ginny - at 4 weeks I managed to ditch 1 of my crutches, although still relied heavily on the other one. But this was great because I could start to do more with my free hand. I finally gave up the 2nd crutch at 8 weeks.  I did think originally that my new hip had made that leg slightly longer but now I realise it isn't. I am back to my old self now, I've even gone back to the gym (I've not attempted to run or jog though). I tested myself at 8 weeks by walking around Scarborough bay (no crutches) which was quite significant because the week before I had the op I had been pushed around the bay in a wheelchair! So, I think it's early days for you and you will eventually walk normal again. I'm amazed at how fast our bodies heal.

      Take care - Claire x

I am 12 weeks post op. for a left hip replacement. I suffered continuous levl 6 pain pre op, and level 10 pain for the first 4 weekspost op making excercise and walking difficult.Started with zimmer for a week, then crutches for 2  further weeks, then walking stick since. I am pleased to say I have no pasin in that joint now, I sleep on both sides (and also on my back, which was impossible pre-op). Whilst I did not find it a pleasant experience, it certainly was well worth going through for the benefit it brings.
