Has anyone experienced these symptoms with tietze syndrome?

I have experienced symptoms of this syndrome for sometime, but have only recently received a diagnosis.

As well as symptoms of pain in the chest, neck and arms I have also been experiencing an irregular heartbeat and abdominal discomfort.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?

Hi, I'm a 50 year old fit and healthy eating female. 3 months ago I was standing in an airport when I suffered two very sharp painful  attacks under my left rib cage. It felt like glass going through my arteries. I suffered the next attack at 2am the next morning out of the dead of my sleep. I went to the dr and he sent me for bloods and a CT. The white cells were elevated and my CT clear. The attacks continued at school and a home up to 5 a day.  They were only under my left rib cage. I was then sent for an ultrasound and an ECG. Ultrasound showed gallstones but that pain should be on my right side. I then saw a surgeon who sent me for an endoscopy and colonoscopy but they were clear. The pain started to move to my right too so the took out my gallbladder. By this time I have lost 8kgs. Five days later I went back to the ED with severe chest pain. (The only chest pain I've ever experienced in this illness). They said the CT showed a blocked bile duct. I was transferred to a new hospital and specialist for an ERCP. This failed as the dr couldn't get through as the scope was too big. This though gave me pancreatitis. Horrendous! 8 days later and 8 days of nil by mouth, many antibiotics intravenously and an MRCP I got released from hospital. It took 3 weeks to bring my liver levels back to normal from a peak of 1400 (should be no more than 50) and my enzymes from over 500 to normal of 15. BUT the pain has not gone away. I now have developed a severe intentional infection from the antibiotics and I'm 11 kgs off and haven't put anything back on. Eating had been a struggle. After another endoscopy that only revealed mild gastric I'm being sent for a bone scan for chostochronditis/Tietze syndrome. I have had no chest pain or arm pain but I do get bad pain in my back and left shoulder blade. My pain is under my 7th rib but does tend to travel into my abdomen. Has anyone else not had the chest or arm pain but still diagnosed with this disorder??? My pain doesn't let up until I go to bed.

    Hello Guest,

I an not a doctor, just someone with a Tietze syndrome in my left ribs.

But I think, you probably have some other problem, overlaying.

You should ask your doc next time to make a heart check. Specialised docs can tell you how many infarctus you allready have made.

    Hi all,

I have had Tetzie for a long time. 5 years ago it was confirmed after a scan identified a s crescent shape in rib area, it where my rib not connected to sternum. I often get swelling in chest area. If I sneeze it painful. I try to not let it interfere with my everyday life, sometimes it hurts so much I get irritated. I have much chest pain, it radiates into my shoulder, neck and arm.

I do gentle yoga it helps with the movement and the breathing helps pain sometimes. Sleeping on back can hurt, I roll a towel up and place it in between my shoulders, it helps a lot I think because it opens chest. It not likely going to go away and meds are not really effective. Most days are good, a flare up happens but nothing really can prevent it.

We are all different, I choose to get on with it be positive. It not going to go away or can anyone make it better.

Hi I've recently just be diagnosed with tietze syndrome. 6 years ago i had my first symptoms, i had found a lump on the right side of my chest that was causing pain in my chest, neck and arm.

I also had weakness in my right arm with some numbness to my fingers.

Just recently I've been having other symptoms such as dizziness and weakness in my legs. I have been on some many different medications as they did not know what was wrong until i had MRI and xrays done.

My results came back to show slight spinal compression in my neck.

This is when my doctor came to the conclusion that i have tietze. I've now been taken off some medication and i feel better for it. I have been given feldene gel to rub on the area and it does work when the pain isn't at its worst. I haven't had a bad bout lately so i don't know how effective the gel will be then.

I was diagnosed with this - Tietz Syndrome.  My Dr - who was voted #1 doc in Florida - said to take 2000 mg of Tumeric a day. The pill form. It has done wonders.  Get it at WALMART!

I have chronic tietze, I was diagnosed at 16. I'm now 24. I experience exstreme rib pain, I can't breathe and it feels like I'm having a heart attack. I could also have the pain for a couple hours to a couple days. I usually take medical cannabis, tramadol, or hydrocodone. I found out those help the best. I would never wish tietze on anyone it feels like I'm dying, if you feel like your ribs are ripping out of your body and it puts stress on your organs and heart that's where the slight heart attack feeling comes in. Before diagnosing your self ask your doctor. How you explain your symptoms, I think you don't have it. It's the only thing I wished I've never had.

I have something that seems like both costochondritis and tietze syndrome. I've had pains in my back for years but the chest pains started around 6 months ago. I haven't had chest pains in a few weeks now but my back pain is unbearable. Every single costovertebral joint is agony to the touch. I have constant burning feelings rolling up and down my spine. If i bend my torso it feels like my joints are being ripped apart and also burnt at the same time. I can't sit down for too long. I can't work effectively now! I am a civil engineer and I spent so long studying to be one. I am a keen runner and weightlifter and netball player and I can't do any of these things now. My whole life has changed. I've changed my diet to an anti inflammatory diet. I have tried to supplement with turmeric, ginger, MSM, glucosamine, chondroitin, vitamin D, omega 3, magnesium. I have been seeing a chiropractor for 3 months. Nothing has worked!! Stress makes it worse, but I am so stressed about this condition that I feel like I am pushing myself further and further over the edge. My lower back also aches all the time and I am getting sciatica down my left leg.

I starting doing postural correction stuff to pull my shoulders back and that aggravated my back so much. So I stopped. Since I stopped it has also got worse, I literally cannot win, nothing improves it and everything makes it worse. I am depressed and I cry every day. I never see any of my friends and family anymore. I wish I had answers or ideas to help myself!

This started flaring up properly in May after I had lost 5kg in 3 months. Not exactly rapid weight loss but potentially could have contributed as others in this thread have said.

I am currently experiencing these symptoms. Mine originally started last December and by March felt 100% better. This year I have been feeling discomfort since beginning of November and has progressively gotten worse. The colder the weather the worse the symptoms. This is a very terrible miserable feeling.

I still am waiting for the results of one more test, but my doctor has diagnosed me with this and often when I have an episode of this (I have an episode every month and have had this for a year now), I will get severe back pain, occasional shooting pains down my arms, overall weakness and aches and pains really. I sometimes get severe headaches too. One of my symptoms were palpitations and an area of pain is my abdomen, so in answer to your question - yes, these symptoms are common.

I would say the irregular heartbeats could possibly be due to the anxiety that we have (even though I hate to admit it), as when we experience severe chest pain and bodily pains, of course, we are going to worry. However, I am not a doctor and so perhaps the palpitations are linked to the inflammation.

    Hi there,

I have not been diagnosed yet, but do recognise the signs and symptoms of Tietze syndrome. As a Registered Nurse. I do suffer from an irregular heart beat on some days, just like you.

    Kind Regards,

    Stephen

I am just now experiencing some constant pain in my upper chest, underneath both breasts. It has been constant for 10 days now. Nothing seems to make it go away. It feels like a burning sensation at times, like a severe burn/raw skin, or an extremely heavy feeling, like weights are hanging from my skin. I am assuming it is Tietze.

I did exert my chest muscles while covering a seat cushion but find it hard to think that would last for 10 days with no relief. I am 70 and it sounds like Tietze bothers younger people. I am hoping it will go away as quickly as it appeared. I did the cushion on a Thursday night, and the pain started Saturday morning. Nothing in the arms or anywhere else. I am just amazed at the amount of pain and nothing stops it. From what I am hearing, and my own experiences with doctors on other issues, it seems pointless to go to one for this. It seems like I can pick up more info from the internet. This is interferring with being able to function. Is that the case with everyone else?
