Has anyone gotten their hernia mesh removed?

Posted , 51 users are following.

I'm finding it really hard to find actual people to discuss how they've recovered after having a mesh removed.

I had an umbilical hernia. They inserted a 10x5 cm mesh in me, and it has ruined my life.

I'm going to have it removed but it all sounds a bit dangerous.

I want to find ANYONE that's had theirs removed and how the healing and recovery went?

It would be a godsend to find someone else.

Thanks,

-Justin-

Interesting that you ask this. Until today i thought i had idiopathic Small Fibre Neuropathy but following the publication in the UK of the Cumberlege report I am wondering. The report looked at issues including mesh usage in women but it seems possible that mesh usage may have given rise to other issues. I rather naively didn't make a possible connection between the hernia repair i had followed by several neurological problems including SFN. i may possibly need to have my mesh removed but i know little about this. I will have a careful look at the posts here and elsewhere to see whether a linkage is possible

Hello , how are you feeling? thanks for replying my mensage the last time.

please i would like to know if the umbilical mesh removed from you was ventralex,

    and how was it removed.

    thank you.

I don't know what mesh it was, sorry. It was huge though: 10cm x 5cm. They cut me open and took it out. Repairing the hernia by a few permanent "nylon" (i really don't know the exact material) stitches. I'm a million times better now. Best decision I ever made getting it removed... shame i lost 3 years of my life to extreme pain.

    Hello how are you doing?

i just want to let you know that i

finally got my umbilical and abdominal

    ventralex mesh removed yesterday.

I had open removal. very big opening.

i didn't need any mesh. the surgeon

repaired some tissues damage in the

area where the both mesh were

removed , and closed the abdomen wall

    with double sutures.

i'm in lots of pain and i hope that with

pain relieve medicine i'll get better as time goes on.

thank you for your support and informations .

im not to sure how this works, but has anyone had there abdominal mesh removed laparoscopically or robotically? I'm only 6 weeks removed with really no pain, my problem is mentally and possibly GERD. I have a endoscopy and colonoscopy test coming up. has anyone suffered from lack of appetite and insomnia?

Hello, it's probably better for you to make a new post question instead of asking questions on this one. I had my mesh cut out so I can't help you. All the best and good luck.

    Hi I am from Australia

I had a inguinnal hernia plug x 2 put in and also a femoral hernia mesh repair.

After 2 weeks I went back to see the surgeon I told him of the numbness where the crest meets the left leg. He dismissed my concern and asked how was the hernia pain.

About 8 months from this I was beginning to become sore in my left groin the pain was coming unbearable I was limping and experiencing like a foot drop.

My GP referred me to a well know Dr Garvey, he did some tests on me pin pricks and stuff he said you have a trapped nerve he removed the 2 plugs and the mesh repair.

Upon removing the mesh repair he noted that there was no hernia there very odd. I had internal bleeding which seen a drain in me for 4 days. The Dr also said to me he is quite surprised that I lasted as long as I did.

The mesh had shrink also trapped my cutaneous nerve and I lost me inguinnal nerve.

2019 seen me go in for another operation on my abductor which was released to the hernia repair, still did not see no relief of pain. I had two steroid injections into the genitalfemoral nerve I had relief for the best of 2 has.

I was referred to a pain specialists who then done a block which lasted a mere 2 days.

I went onto a neurostimulator trial then a implant

The implant worked for a while but did not stop my pain, shooting pain into my left testicle which is now numb

I have also done prp injections into the abductor region,.

The year is now 2020 three years on from the original operation that seen me do an additional 4 operations.

Just 2 months ago I have now got strong signs of CRPS and a stressed genitalfemoral nerve.

I went back to my surgeon to ask of his opinion giving him all the signs and symptoms and he has informed me it is quite possible you had this autoimmune disease.

I am now currently awaiting approval from the insurance company for a 5 day ketamine infusion

I am also searching for other people that have had inguinnal and femoral hernia repairs to start class action in Australia against the mesh company.

My advice to all is stay away from mesh and have a normal stature done, if you have them in the area get them removed.

I have attached a link from my surgeon you will find this a interesting read

And please follow this post as class actions can be brought against world wide.

If you are suffering from Chronic groin pain, and have had these medical device implants Please leave a post of your suffering and your location.

I had an umbilical mesh surgery done in November 2019 I have had a chronic infection and slight pain since I need to have the mesh removed and my whole umbilicus and will no longer have a belly button and who knows whatever else. I went in for surgery last Thursday had pre op done and minutes before being taken to the operating room my surgeon cancelled as he said my temperature was up and down 36.7 37.8 37.5 35 he then sent me to have another contrast catscan done. I very had over 20 lots of antibiotics I've had stitches pop out through my belly button which the surgeon did at one visit . I go back next Monday to the surgeon and will rebook surgery. I may go to another surgeon as I feel he really doesn't want to do it. I am now speaking to a Lawyer you don't need to do a class action . I'm not sure what mesh was used but I am going to ask the hospital for my record. The surgeon that was removing the mesh is not the original one. Did you have your surgery in Sydney

A massive thank you for posting and maintaining this thread. It is a huge relief to know I'm not the only person suffering with this / am not imagining it.

I'm a 35 year old male with no history of groin issues. I pulled my groin cycling and was misdiagnosed with a left side inguinal hernia in October 2019 (it turns out there was an error in the ultrasound). I had a mesh inserted in November 2019 and have been in constant pain ever since.

So far all the doctors I have seen have wanted to medicate me (steroid injections, switching nerves off), whilst all physios recommend getting the hernia mesh removed as soon as possible. I'm not entirely sure what to do as the difference between the two professions seems so stark.

Has anybody else come across similar disagreements between doctors and physios?

PS. Has anybody come across a decent support group for people suffering hernia mesh complications? There seem to be some fantastic women-specific groups but I've struggled to find a non-gender specific one.

I'm not sure anyone else will answer your questions. Might be worth making a new one on this site.

From my experience the injections did nothing for the pain, it wasn't until the mesh was removed that I felt better.

I've recently been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia as well. I'll probably just live with the pain instead of risking surgery at this point.
