Has anyone gotten their hernia mesh removed?
Posted , 51 users are following.
I'm finding it really hard to find actual people to discuss how they've recovered after having a mesh removed.
I had an umbilical hernia. They inserted a 10x5 cm mesh in me, and it has ruined my life.
I'm going to have it removed but it all sounds a bit dangerous.
I want to find ANYONE that's had theirs removed and how the healing and recovery went?
It would be a godsend to find someone else.
Thanks,
-Justin-

Was your surgeon trained and experienced in mesh removal?

yes - in fact he is one of the premier mesh removal surgeons in the country. I went to meet with him several times and I never felt comfortable with it but i went ahead anyway because I was in so much pain. Biggest mistake of my life. I am in more pain now than before. Never never have it done unless its infected. I will forever regret it. I will not name the surgeon here,

Hi Cole
I had mine removed and it was the best choice I ever made. Good luck, I know how awful it was with constant pain!
Very important to find a great doctor because the procedure is so dangerous to remove a mesh.

Hello, thanks for replying.
i have gone to 6 surgeons,
four of them ask me to take pain relief drug. they feel everything is ok with the mesh. i finaly found one that works in public hospital. he said he can remove the mesh. but i am still afraid.
what kind of umbilical mesh did you had ?
mine is ventralex 6cm

I'm sorry... I don't know the brand. It was huge though 6-8 cm and an edge of it broke off in the removal but I was lucky to have a great doctor and he removed all of the missing pieces. We i came out of surgery I knew it was a success... the first surgery when the put the mesh in was the worst experience of my life. Six days of extreme pain in the hospital.
I wish I could ease your anxiety... I just recommend asking a ton of questions: how many removals has the doctor done? Success vs failures? Ect. I just had the two surgeries and that was scary enough for me, I can't imagine 6! Good luck and sending positive vibes for your recovery.

Thought you meant 6 surgeries not six surgeons... heh. If you were confused about my last reply.
