Has anyone gotten their hernia mesh removed?

Posted , 51 users are following.

I'm finding it really hard to find actual people to discuss how they've recovered after having a mesh removed.

I had an umbilical hernia. They inserted a 10x5 cm mesh in me, and it has ruined my life.

I'm going to have it removed but it all sounds a bit dangerous.

I want to find ANYONE that's had theirs removed and how the healing and recovery went?

It would be a godsend to find someone else.

Thanks,

I have 1 square foot of mesh, covering everything in my stomach. my surgeon said that there are too many risks involved to remove it. He said that i would be at a very high risk for blockages and there's no guarantee that i wouldn't have pain after removing it. I suffer with pain from the mesh every single day! I have tried physical therapy, massage and muscle relaxers and medical marijuana. Nothing has worked. If anyone has or had a large mesh of my size removed, let me know how you made out. Thanks!

Hi Alan, so glad you're getting sorted, make sure you ask to go on the cancellation list... I only waited a couple of months... they gave me a weeks notice.. so it was fine. Yes, I had double neurectomy.... doesn't feel anything really... I'm still numb around the surgery site.. but nothing more than that. Oh.. I so hope you get seen soon... 😊

I am fighting to have my 10 x 15 cm phasix mesh removed as it has completely disabled me. The implanting surgeon says none of my symptoms are associated with his abdominal surgery and that i have healed well. If that was the case, why did i lose my ability to work, raise my kids, walk, even shower myself. i have suffered with chronic fatigue, pain, nausea, etc since day 1.

I will have to have a vertical incision from sternum to pubic bone for full removal. So scared but i cannot remain this way, as every day feels like death

I feel you. My original surgeon said it had to be something else. Just talk to another surgeon. Someone that has history removing them before, since it's so complicated. Once I had mine removed my life has gotten infinitely better.

I had surgery scheduled for April 17 but thank God he placed another surgeon on my path. It has been 4 weeks since I had removal surgery and although I am still in pain, I have faith that I will recover some functionality again. I am able to eat more solids now and the chemical odor in my pores has faded. In time, I will be able to walk again without using a walker and to bend and sit on floor with my children to play. I pray for all mesh affected especially during times

My son had inguinal mesh removal about 4 1/2 years ago. There are surgeons out there who are skilled at mesh removal. It's important never to go to am inexperienced removal surgeon or you could be severely damaged.

There are many Facebook mesh groups that can help you with information and support.

Does anyone have a good list of surgeons who are doing total mesh removal in the US? Or any recommendations for Texas or close by?

    Thanks!
