Hi I am waiting for a appointment to start cbt as I have bad health anxiety. The doc has put me on fluoxetine Im worried about taken them and being dependent on them and not to mention the horror stories of bad anxiety as a side effect! Has anyone tried cbt and found it useful? And the meds do they work?

Hi I'm also waiting for a CBT appointment. Meds do work given time - small doses at a time gradually increasing. Good luck .

Yes that's what they told me and it ended up being 6 months.

I suppose like everything else it depends what area you are in and how in demand the service is.

      I'm in Derbyshire

you can easily wean yourself off fluoxetine it is not addictive and could help your anxiety.  Try cbt as well because that hits the heart of anxiety. I have been on this for a while and apart from gaining a bit of weight was fine on the drug.

Hi Richard how long have you been on fluoxetine for? Do u have health aniexty? If so did it help?

I was on it for about a year and did well on it.  I have schizophrenia.  Hope it works out for you. Read the leaflet for side effects so you know what to expect if you get one.

Fluoxetine isn't addictive, Carlie. If you start taking it (and I think you should) it usually makes you feel worse for the first few days. Persevere. It can take up to six weeks for your brain to be positively affected by this medicine. I see that the doctor has also given you diazepam in case the anxiety is bad - that's fine, but be careful as diazepam are very addictive. I'm sure your doctor won't have given you many, anyway. CBT helped me but you have to stick with it. Good luck. Love Tess

Hi tess thanx for your reply yeah I'm Gona start taken them. I'm just worried it will make me more anxious😫. And I googled ( I no wrong thing to do) and now I'm worried that if there for depression and I'm not depressed it's gives me to much serotonin? Which isn't good!! As I learnt from Google! can they be taken just for anxiety the doc only gave me 14 diazepam and 2mg

Yourr body will soon tell you if you have too much serotonin in it - you'll go in the other direction, by which I mean you'll be VERY talkative, doing chores over and over again, unable to sit down and relax, not feel tired, keep thinking of more things that you believe need doing. This is called hypomania aand it isn't permanent. All you have to do is go to the doctor and ask for either a lower dose, or something different.

I got hypomania once (but not from fluoxetine) and was able to recognise it and charged right back to the GP. She put my dose down and that was great - but I wouldn't like to have it again, and my husband wouldn't like to have to watch me. I drove him bonkers for a day!
