jassy you wouldn't be the first woman to think the worst. Basically you have 2 prolapse dragging the nerves and tendons down causing pain. Even a mild prolapse can cause pain. Have you been examined?

yes matron... my bladder is mild the doc reckons but i cant see how it comes right into my vagina, and the rectocele is a large bulge and i am so constipated, i take senna... i am just in continual pain all the time, tne lower back ache is not relenting ... and i have pain in the bladder region that sometimes mild throbs or just feels like a burning pain... i am so scared its something else... i have googled everything ... and its made me mentally poorly xx

should it be like this matron? cx

Jassy, can I barge in here?  You need to deal with that constipation fast.  That's the worst possible thing if you have prolapses.  I used senna on prescription fo decades only to be told this last year when I was in hospital that it wasn't the best thing and they put me on macrogol - that is far safer for long term use.  I'd worked my way up to 7 senna a night and then it wasn't working well and it was feared my bowel had stopped working because of the years on senna, so do ask your GP for macrogol.

jassy please stop looking for answers on Google because there's so much rubbish on there. You probably need a stool softener for your bowels because it will help the transit of the stool and it will be easier to pass. Seeing a physiotherapist who is specially trained in prolapse may help as well. Like Chris said see your doctor for something to help you have your bowels opened more easily. What you describe is typical of prolapsed bladder and bowel so you need some medical advice.

Jassy I know Matron has told you to stop googling because there is a lot of rubbish on the net, but you'll find information from this site safe and this explains what happens sometimes with the bladder and bowel aspect of prolapse https://patient.info/doctor/genitourinary-prolapse-pro - some women have to push the prolapse back to wee properly.  Mine never affected me like that but it was one of the questions the gynie asked me when I went to get my prolapse pessary (a device that is inserted into the vagina to hold up the prolapses - they work very well and you don't notice they're there but they just, at least in my case, make it all feel normal).  Has anyone mentioned a pessary to support the vagina to you?

I should have explained the googling a bit better. This website patient.co.uk is absolutely fine because it has information that has been researched

Jassy, what you're describing with it protruding does sound like a prolapse but I think you need a second opinion just to reassure you.  Is there more than one doctor at your GP's?  If so, ask to see another to get it checked out and tell them of your concerns.  Yes, kegels will help with a mild prolapse but not with a bigger one.  I think Matron was right in that googling has got you anxious, but at the same time it's not fair for them to leave you with the pain you have and the anxiety so it's fair enough for you to ask for a second opinion, and to ask what they're proposing to do now.  Have they suggested a prolapse pessary to hold it up, or an operation to sort it out?  If they haven't then you need to ask about a solution.

he said its not severe enough... but its just before the opening of my vagina.... u shouldnt be able to touch your bladder at all should u? x

Well there is clearly a prolapse there if you can feel it bulging that low, so I'd be inclined to ask for that second opinion and see if someone else can offer something that will make you more comfortable, such as a prolapse pessary.

Jassy, I do understand how you feel.  I hated mine where it was just above the bottom of vagina level because it felt like a lemon stuck there all the time and if I bent over I'd feel it sort of being squashed there, and if I sat down I'd feel it - I just didn't like it, so that's when I felt it was time to go back to a prolapse pessary.  I think you need to see a GP again - see if there's a lady doctor who may be more sympathetic, but if not, you're going to have to hold your ground and tell them it's causing you distress, and if they aren't trained there to find a prolapse pessary for you, ask to be referred to a prolapse specialist.  But you really don't need to be panicking... I know it's unpleasant, but it's nothing dangerous, so try and relax a bit - this is something that women have been putting up with for generation after generation but they never spoke about.  They've even found prolapse pessaries that go back to Roman times, made of ivory and so on.  This is really just nature failing us.  But get that appointment with your doctor and tell them how you feel and how it's affecting your life and also, I'd suggest telling them that you worry about it getting worse, so would like a prolapse pessary to prevent that happening.  But of course, it may be that you're not happy about having a pessary - some women don't like the idea of something stuck up there either semi permanently (you go in to have them taken out and the area checked about every 4 months or something like that, and then replaced) or temporarily, where you can take it out yourselve and use it when you want to, and if you don't want a pessary to stop it dropping down, then you're talking about an operation to repair it and they wouldn't do it at that stage, I'd guess.  It may be that once you're reassured that it's nothing dangerous you might be happy to live with it, but you just need to have that chat with the GP for reassurance and to see what your options are.  But don't be fobbed off with a 'it's not severe enough' because if it's affecting your life giving you pain or discomfort,  or affecting bowel or bladder function, then you are entitled to be told your options, as in prolapse support pessary (you can't feel them when they're in, by the way)  or an operation to repair it.  If it helps you, write it out before you go to the doctor, how it's affecting you mentally, your anxiety about it, and the physical effects.  Also, if you can, take someone with you.

what grade is your prolapse chris?? i am so so fed up .. i will see how i get on next week at docs xx
    • Posted

It's grade 2 - that's the bladder one that affects me most, but the vaginal vault is also 1 or 2 (can't remember what) and there is also a bowel (into the vagina too).  I was offered a prolapse pessary as soon as this was picked up.  It was the same before the operation and after the repair failed - they offered me one straight away.  This is something I always say to people when a situation is getting them down - get a plan.  Plan to write it down, and plan to see if you can take someone with you, and plan what you want to achieve and how you're going to achieve it then you'll be much more positive about it all and it will make you feel better.

Jassy, Chris has given good advice, most Dr's surgeries have nurses trained to fit ring pessary just insist you want one fitted to try out,I prefer lady doctors feel more comfortable with them. Good luck.

does it cause u pain then chris ?? grade 2 is that just above the vaginal opening ? 😧
    • Posted

No, I never got pain, just discomfort when I stood, sat, or walked or bent over.  I'd say it's just above the vaginal opening but not quite as far down as the vulva.  But having the pessary to support the prolapse means I just forget it - there's no discomfort there.  I used to have to lean forward slightly to finish weeing - the bladder wasn't quite emptying properly, but with the pessary in everything feels normal.  The ring pessary was no good for me after the surgery, so others had to be tried, and the shelf was the one that was right for me, but if you look online there are huge varieties of pessaries, so it's a question of telling the 'fitter' what you want from it - ability to have penetrative sex etc. and then them finding the right one for you.  I think it's amazing that they can insert something that puts everything right, you don't notice it's there, and you just carry on with life as normal!
