Have anterior urethral Stricture

Was diagnosed of urethral Stricture and i was told i have 2 options . To either self dilate once daily or urethrotomy surgery. I choose the self dilation and have been fine for 4 months until recently it appears the stricture got tighter and my bladder have been hurt several occasions after urinating and maybe when i take citric fruits or juice.
Because this is hurting my bladder i might be looking at taking the surgery option to prevent causing further harm to my bladder. Will be meeting my urologist soon but am curious to know how the urethronomy surgery is and post patient feelings short and long term. Is a difficult situation for anyone to have the penis sliced to perform the surgery . Are there any patient who has done this surgery, how was your urine flow and sex life after surgery.
Also i read there is also a risk of a re-occurrence from 1 year to 10 years . Just curious and hoping to get all the help i can get as i know the urologist don't tell everything and the are always in a hurry to see another patient

Where did you say the stricture was in the penis. I read up on it and they go through the pee hole a open up the stricture. I don't think they cut it open with that one. What about a balloon dilation. That last about a year but it would be easier that having your penis cut. How old are you my friend. I have a stricture just before the prostate it's been ok for the last 4 years. Good luck Ken

Life is the the same but ejaculation is a pain like a b***h. Pain and pleasure together imagine!
Anyway I’m thinking of urethrotomy but I’m scared like hell.
Let me know how it goes.
I have been suffering since very young age like when I was 9

It's well.. I started noticing mine and went to hospital where a doctor ruled out a stricture but i developed the stricture in the another hospital when i traveled for work and i needed to check my condition , the doctor advised the do a bladder test by inserting a catheter . I initially hesitated but reluctantly agreed that's when my real problem started
I wish you well but from what i read about the urethrotomy, is not effective if the dilation fails so maybe you should do more research . The say urothroplasty is a gold standard but am worried about the post operation effect on sexual life and long term effects too.
For the ejaculation .. Maybe try catheterizing before you have sex..maybe it will help

Thanks Ken.. Other reviews i have read shows no lasting solution other than management of the stricture and for me i dilate once a day and it works well but for the past six months i have received 4 to 5 bladder trauma that makes my bladder so strong, a very painful situation and am worried about damages on my bladder, so am thinking of a lasting solution . Urothroplasty seems to be the only thing that's more like it but am still making research on it.

Strictures at all locations are reported to have an 85% rate of occurrence within 2 years after dilation. (I wish that my stricture were in such an anterior location where it could be surgically repaired!) I have had both balloon dilation and urethrotomy procedures for my stricture, and neither lasted more than a few months. Unfortunately, my stricture is so posterior, and because of my age, reconstruction is not a good option.
Do a search for [fossa navicularis stricture] and read the NCBI articles for good advice. I would look for the best reconstructive specialist you can find for an evaluation. I saw a reconstructive specialist on the west coast and one on the east coast if you would like their names. I'm sure there are others, so get a good one.

Where is your stricture?

Jessy,
As you consider your options, and read from people on this board, keep in mind that we are of different ages. You said you are 34. Only 34! I am 79, and have only had a stricture for two years, thanks to a screw-up by my first urologist. He also left me highly incontinent, so I was desperately seeking an avenue that didn't require that I be in a heavy wet diaper, or be using a condom catheter and leg bag all day. My new urologist did a button plasma procedure for the stricture, then inserted a Fr. 22 catheter for a week. That keep the urethra patent long enough for me to have and artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implanted this past November. So far, so good with both the stricture and the AUS. The AUS was turned on in early January, and I live a pretty normal life without diapers (Depend pull ups, actually) or an external condom catheter and bag. HOWEVER, I recognize that the stricture could come back, and I'll be faced with another procedure to deal with it.
If I were your age, and had an anterior stricture, I would consider urethroplasty if I had access to a highly experienced specialist who believes he/she could do surgery with a good chance of a permanent repair. A few months of recuperation at your age is a bother, but not the rest of your life. From your description, you are dealing with retention and stress to the bladder. Don't endanger your bladder and kidneys in order to avoid a surgery if it has a high probability of a good outcome.
You didn't mention the cause of your stricture. As long as it's not from having genital lichen sclerosus, a surgical repair should be a possibility. Also, are you in the UK or the US? I'm only familiar with doctors here in the US.

Thanks Glenn. ..I just noticed one day that it was taken a while for me to pee, went to hospitals and it wasn't quite clear that I had a stricture..infact a doc after a cytoscopy examination said I don't have a structure but maybe a tiny urethra...6 months after I was in my work station and had a lot of cofee which caused heavy bladder pain.went to a different hospital and the inserted a catheter, was the most painful experience. That's when my real structure problem started.Am in the U.S.I agree about not endageering the bladder as the structure has cause neurogenic bladder according to the doctor,I had a trauma last week that still makes my bladder feel so strong. Are urethroplasty a lifetime fix...the usually say a long term fix,10 to 15yrs..am looking for something permanent

Jessy I'm afraid nothing is permanent. you may have to do it again in your lifetime But do what you can to make your life better Ken

Jessy,
The question of the life expectancy of a urethroplasty repair is something you need to ask a specialist in that area. I did find a good report of outcomes of procedures that should be of value. I will send it to you by IM, as I can't put a link in this post.

Hey Jessy. I just read a story about a a guy 28 went to have a urethroplasty have you talk with the doctor yet. Are they going to do the graft one with the graft from you mouth. I have to ask this are you circumcise. The reason I ask was this guy the doctor was doing the graft surgery and he was taking the skin from his mouth. Well when he woke up the doctor circumcise him. He did not give the doctor permission to do that. He has had more problems. Sex he said does not feel the same. This is why I say make sure you talk with the doctor and get copy's of everything in writing Take care Ken

Thanks Glenn...At this point it seems i don't have a choice and might have to go for a urethroplasty surgery as is seriously impacting on my bladder function, have a cytoscopy test in a week but the doctor said yestereday i have neurological bladder and it appears to have worsened .So i have no choice

Thanks Ken.. Am circumcised. The issue with urethral stricture is that it can cause more damage and am experiencing it, 6 months ago i was told i have mild neurological bladder and i have been catheterizing everyday but still experienced bladder trauma due to occasional strains to void. I think my bladder function is deteriorating as it feels so hard when i breath, have an appointment next week . Will hear what the doctor says but with what i feel i already know is not too good but hope for the best. Will proceed with the surgery because the stricture is a serious threat to my bladder and i don't want it to get worse.About the sex part i read and was told by a urologist that it affects sex sensation slightly according to like 5 to 10 percent of his patients review....life is a already a b***h for me at 34 but when i think about the bladder ish i just have to give it a shoot
