I was diagnoised with fibro over a year ago. I am in constant pain and have all the symptons that come with fibro. Yesterday i was in the shower and might i add its not a power shower, its just one that fits on the bath taps, well the pain in my back and on the tops of my feet were unbareable. it was caused by the water touching my skin. Please tell me if anyone else has experienced this, i really dread going into the shower now.

I've been diagnosed with Fybro for 20+ years, not had the problem with a shower but, sometimes I can have a slight itch but when I scratch it I feel like I've stabbed myself.

If you can reach some epsom salts everyother day you could have a full salts bath. It might help reduce the sensitivity. X

Really feeling for you Clare, it's just awful....the tops if my feet were excruciatingly painful for a good  24 hrs, and I was doing nothing at all...it just started out if the blue...once, I couldn't bare to put any shoes on..even a light  sheet on them was soooo hurtful, I was rushed to the local hospital..for them to tell me my blood pressure was extremely high.,,,gee I wonder why...grr..they weren't even bothered with my feet..my specialist some time later told me it was the Fibro...but I only ever had that the once..thank God....better days ahead Claire ...chin up and all that..yes, easier said than done..but most  of our Symptoms don't  seem to last forever...yes, they do come back sometimes..but at least we know they will go eventually...hope you feeling a tad better. Be blessed.,have a lovely day..:-) xx gentle hugs..xxx

Along with painful skin, does anyone else get what for want of a better word, I've called 'breakouts'.  My skin seems to pop open at various points, either a small spot or a little slit like a paper cut and then bleeds profusely for a short while before scabbing over and healing but if I knock the scab it bleeds freely again for a while.  I now look like I've stumbled through a briar patch, lots of little scars and marks all over the place where these spots have opened and healed and left a permanent scar.  My arms are most affected but one day I was out with friends and one of them pointed to my leg and said 'oh you've knocked your leg somehow'.  There was a small trickle of blood running down from my shin to my ankle.  I hadn't felt a thing.  My skin had just popped open and then bled.  When I cleaned it off it was just a tiny slit, almost invisible.  It did stop quickly but then the resulting scab was fragile and easily disturbed so it bled all over again.  I asked to see the dermatologist at my GP practice and her words were 'I haven't got any answers for you'. Great.

Hiya Loxie, no I haven't had this, nor do I know anyone who has had what your asking, however, that doesn't mean it's not a Fibro symtom.??...I would be very forceful, we have to take our own health in our own hands for sanity..grrrr...maybe be a bit demanding!!! tell you doctor you NEED to see a dermatologist...if she has no answers..I wonder why on earth she just doesn't send you to someone that might...poor you Loxie, this must be just awful for you..really hooe you get help soon..gentle hugs...be blessed..have a lovely day..:-) xxx

Hi christine, I did actually see the dermatologist, we have one based at our group practice - had to wait nearly a month to get an appointment with her.  She's the one who just shrugged and although pleasant and friendly, just said she basically couldnt tell what was causing it.  I use oodles of moisturiser - my shower cream has moisturiser in it, I then use the in-shower Nivea stuff, then aqueous cream, sometimes E45 and even bio oil.  I'm so slick sometimes I'm like an eco disaster if I go swimming smile The docs did give me Fusidin cream to stop the break outs becoming infected but they heal over really fast, not like an ulcer.  Along with everything else I just get sad I look so awful with all these little scars everywhere.  just thinking - that they shoot horses in better condition than me - my partner says I'm a character from the series 'V' (the one where the aliens shed their skin) - smile

Poor you Loxie, I didn't realize that the doctor you saw was a Dermy....but I still have to wonder why she didn't refer you onto someone who can help seeing as she can't...I use heaps of coconut oil on my skin..I also have  Sorgrens Syndrome too, which dries out everything..especially my feet, even though I see a podiatrist regularly...my mums-(diabetes) legs were like a crocodiles skin and coconut oil worked wonders for her cracked skin...it's soo great for me too, but like everything what works for one might not work for another, we are all soo unique...I do have to use it daily though..it even took away my Psoriasis which I've had for almost 30 years...(in case you don't already know, but probably do) .coconut oil is solid..like lard, but once it hits the skin it melts..I use it in all my cooking and baking too..extremely good for you..have a lovely day Loxie, be blessed..:-) xx

Thanks Christine.  I guess I've bought everything ever made at one time or another but I avoid any over priced designer label stuff or 'miracle cures' and stick to the basic tried and tested stuff.  I have a big pot of coconut cream/oil, I used it for my hair which started to suffer when all this started.  I'll go back to it again following your comments.  I have naturally dry skin as I've very blonde but I've always kept it moisturised and it doesn't usually cause me any problems like scaliness or eczema/psoriasis, just this weird breaking open.  I tried to mention it again to the doctor the other day and got the old chestnut 'its probably age' - which infuriates me - I'm in my 50s not my 90s! My diet and general health are good except for specific OA and now these fibro symptoms.  I read posts on here from women in their 20s and 30s who are in agony from fibro - that's hardly 'age related' is it.

I always thought it only happened to older people..not at all...wow!!! It's comes on a while after a shock/trauma to your system apparently..mine was a very traumatic event, but I wasn't diagnosed for over 10years. after, I .just kept  getting ill with various symptoms...I read in hear of such young people getting it with small children and some at school still, trying to do their exams.,,,such an inspiration they are to me...I have  OA  too and it just does not like winter at all..it's one degree Celsius -7.30 pm..it will be -3 tonight-(cosy inside though) ...but it's very clean air and fresh..Tasmania-Australia's best kept secret..lol...O' the joys...best thing to do is try as best as you can to be stress free..that's the key to living with this Fibro...be blessed and have a lovely day Loxie...:-) xxx

I've heard others say about trauma/shock being a possible cause.  I was trying to pinpoint anything in my own life as a likely trigger.  I had a major accident back in 2008 which was a difficult time and then the death of my mother then a relationship break up but in all honesty I am not someone who dwells on this things and life goes on, so I couldnt really say any individual event was any more traumatic than life in general.  Maybe a combination of all plus work stress combined to bring it on.  I'm going to continue with meditation classes which really do give good relief at least for a few days after the class anyhow.

I never really knew I had trauma or shock..like you I just got on with it.....but when asked by the doc and started to look back.... voila there it was...I was very surprised that it could come from anything like that..it just didn't feel right, I felt ok at thise times......I think your right there,  it just all accumulates in the end and that rotten Fibro sneeks in without us ever knowing and that's was sooo unreal about it...:-) xx. Meditation is good I meditate too, takes your mind right off it for a while anyway..xx

Hi Claire; I too do have probs with my skin "as you say what looks like paper-cuts"..have never put it down to Fibro, though...for as you say, they just appear.....so I really take note of how "dry" my skin becomes, so am always rubbing in Moisturizer....the ones I use, are either Natio or Avon..they seem to be the only ones that actually absorb into my skin, without leaving a sticky residue on my skin.....how does this sound?   Bron

Morning to both Claire and Christine;  in reply to both comments re the Coconut Oil....am definately going to start to use that too, makes a LOt of sense.....and as to the Trauma....I have been told (right back in thevery beginning in 1994, after nursing my Dad), the Physician from the hospital I worked in, said to me "you know why this is happening, don't you Bron....it's because of what you've just done, been through"....but as you ladies have said....we just "got with our lives"...but as I have made similar comments on this forum before,  after too many "such incidents"....I do feel that our bodies tell us "enough is enough".....so that's why everyone (well not everyone...my siblings don't seem to realize....Bron is Bron, and will still be there...not so sure now, after letting one of my brothers have 2 barrels of my shotgun before Easter this year....he hasn't got back in touch since !!  biggrin )... tells me "it's my time now ".........hoping all having a lovely day..........Bron
