Have you already Saw Palmetto or Pygeum ? How long to wait for a good result ?

I have been diagnosed with BPH in May, I am taking Tamsulosin and I have asked to my urologist if I can take Saw Palmetto. He told me that I can use it.

I have noticed an improvement : wake up once to wee, before it was 3 or 4 times.

Sometimes, I have an urge to wee, I can hold it.

What do you think about Saw Palmetto and Pygeum ? Are you on Tamsulosin ?

If any advice about BPH ?

I don't know which one is helping, the urologist told me I can take both.

Tamulosin is recommended to relax the prostate and its pressure on your bladder.  I was taking it for several years until it interfered with my ejaculation.  That is a common side effect, I understand.

Saw Palmetto was prescribed (2 unconnected doctors) for my brother and for my brother-in-law.  It is not a formal medicine.  I have not renewed (yet?) my order for it as it seemed to have no perceptible effect on me

I tried both supplements, neither really worked. I eventually progressed to two flomax per day. After a year I had a couple of instances of retention. I decided on the PAE procedure and am very satisfied. In hindsight I would have has the procedure much sooner.

Bruno  Saw Palmetto and Pygeum does not help all men  If it is helping you no problem  But I would try to get off the Tamsulosin because of the side effects.  Ask your doctor for Cialis less side effect.  Ken

I used Tamsulosin last November and December because I used to go to the toilet every 5 mn. I could no go anywhere and after few days I saw a big improvement.I have decided to stop it because no urgency or to wake up up several times. Last month, the urologist told me my flow is very weak and I need to take Tamsulosin. I have noticed that my erection is stronger with Saw Palmetto and Pygeum and even ejaculation my penis takes time to go down.

Bruno, Some people find relief from saw palmetto for mild to moderate BPH.  The studies are mixed.  The smaller studies say it works.  A few larger studies said it was no better than placebo.  I would take a formula that has a mix of ingredients besides saw palmetto.  I would take the CO2 extract of saw palmetto standardized to 85% fatty acids.

Hi, you really need to pinpoint whats actually causing your issues, eg I asked my urologist to do a harmless cheap ultra sound which revealed an enlarged median lobe pushing up against my bladder and restricting flow although I was put on drugs in an attempt to help me pee the reality is once the median lobe gets big enough drugs and natural supplements simply wont work and in the mean time you will suffer the side effects of both and worse both your bladder and kidneys will be damaged, once I realized that I quickly ditched the drugs and supplements and searched for the least invasive surgery NOT the cheapest eg in my country turp in the case of a median lobe has some very very sad results, I suggest you youtube videos of turp to see what I mean!

I after much research of all the worldwide options chose Focal Laser Ablation and traveled from New Zealand to Houston Texas to get it done and I am so glad I did.

      Hi Brian,

I have been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and for this reason I was prescribed Tamusolin to relax the muscle of the prostate. The urination is less important at night, I wake up once or sometimes twice. I drink a lot water in the day and from from 6 pm I stop drinking.

Morning Bruno I have been taking saw palmetto for the past 3 years,I have to say I find it very helpful before taking it I used to be getting up 5 to 6 times during the night,I don't get up at all now in fact sleep through from 11 while 7 it's made a huge difference to my quality of life.

Initially the urologist suggested tamulosin to which I declined,a friend of mine who is also taking saw palmetto highly recommended it which I mentioned to the urologist who had no problems with it.

I am very happy taking the palmetto which seems to do the job adequately therefor no tamulosin, everyone is different of course but I am happy just taking what I do good luck,

    Stan

      Hi Stanley,

Thanks for your text about Saw Palmetto. Maybe I have to stop the Tamulosin and take only saw palmetto.

Graminex (flower pollen extract) helps with inflammation as per the company.  After one year, it showed reduction of prostate size.  I would look at Ultra Prostate by Life Extension Fdt.  It has a nice mix of everything.
