Hi Everyone

Just got my Hysterectomy sorted out, now going to sort out the eyes!  Can anyone tell me how soon after having the op I can use eye makeup again please?

Hi Jacqueline, 6 weeks. I was very self conscious at the start as I don't feel fully dressed unless I have 'my face on' but it's surprising how quickly you get used to it. It also saved time getting ready in the mornings. Good luck with your op.

      Hi Carlablue

Thanks for getting back to me.  Oh my god! 6 weeks without eye makeup, frown oh well lets hope it is hot and sunny and I can hide behind shades!  Still I suppose it is a small price to pay for having your eye fixed.

Thanks for the good wishes, how long ago did you have your op and is your eye as good as new?

You can use eye makeup two weeks after but if you colour your hair it's six weeks.

      Hi Gayle

Thanks for getting back to me.  I am a bit confused, sorry, I do colour my hair, so do you mean not to colour my hair for 6 weeks?  Luckily if that is the case I am having my hair coloured two days before the op, so that is good timing.  Or do you mean I cannot use eye makeup for 6 weeks if I colour my hair?  Sorry Gayle this op has me running scared so my brain is not working properly!  I am an anesthetic type of girl, cannot imagine being awake for this at all!

Hi Jacqui sorry what I mean is after the op you cannot colour your hair for six weeks. Don't worry I had a local I had a macular hole and cataract done at the same time it took 2 hrs but you don't feel anything. The only nuisance is all the eye drops after. Don't worry. Gayle x

Being a guy I found this kind of interesting. Rather than being more interested in cataract removal, our fairer sex are more interested in when they can return to eye makeup and hair dye. Myself I was more interested in the operation and recovery afterwards. Funny. More power to you gals.

I also found it interesting I laid there for two hours having a macular hole and cataract done.

      Hi James

I know it does sound crazy worrying about the external things when you are about to have what is to me 'a very big thing done to the eye'.  But my lovely surgeon has explained the procedure very thoroughly to me and I trust him completely even though I am terrified at the thought of it.  I love to be put out, not really into this awake thing but I have no choice on this!  I know it does sound very lacking in seriousness the questions I am asking but as I am getting ready morning and night now and doing my cleaning routine I realise there must be a lot of do's and don'ts attached to cleaning near the eyes.     The last thing I want to do is get an infection in the eye or mess the surgery up!  Are you due to have a cataract removed?

      Warmest Wishes

      Hi Gayle

Gosh I cannot get over how brave you were to lay there for 2 hours.  I hope your op was very successful.

Hi Jacqueline yes the operation was successful but the problem I have now is that my eye prescription in both eyes is so far apart that my brain can't focus it so now Im battling with optician what is the best way to sort this out. As I went back to optician six weeks after op and he referred me back to hospital for cataract lens doing in other eye, even though I haven't got a cataract. Hospital refused to do it so I now have to back to opticians and see what they can do for me. That's the pain. Anyway if you can go through an hysterectomy you can do this. I have had hysterectomy as well and having your eye done is a piece of cake. Gayle

      Hi Gayle

Oh my word that is quite a dilemma  you are facing  .  I do hope you get sorted very soon, especially as your eye op was so successful.  I will cross everything for you.  You seem to be in 'Catch 22 Land!'

I know you are right about the hysterectomy, and I was very lucky I sailed through it, no pain at all and felt very very well, so why I am so frightened of the cataract op does not make sense but then emotions very often are not sensible!  Still the procedure is very quick so I will practice my yoga breathing and try not to have a melt down.

Aren't these forums wonderful.  It is so lovely to meet people like yourself going through the different stages and get advice and support.

Yes these forums are great.  When I first had mine done I was having a few problems so when I spoke to people on here they had the same problems so it makes you feel so much better.   Please don't worry you will be done within 30 minutes it goes so quick.  Let us know how you get on and when it's done if you feel you have a problem with your eye, you probably won't have, you go through different stages.  I had mine done on the 16 January went to hospital last week and I still had a stitch in mine.  Everybody's different after the op. Don't forget keep in touch I will think about you next Friday.  I'm going to opticians then so that will be fun xx
