Hi Everyone

Just got my Hysterectomy sorted out, now going to sort out the eyes!  Can anyone tell me how soon after having the op I can use eye makeup again please?

I have already had both eyes done and my vision is much better than before. I was expecting to have 20/20 vision in both eyes, but that was not the case. I now have 20/30 and 20/40. I can see without glasses both near and far and vision is sharp for both. I probably will get glasses in the future, but it is really nice to be able to see so much better than before. The operations were a piece of cake (easy). I was given anesthetic that allowed me to be awake during the entire procedure and could see blurred images during the entire painless procedure which took less than 10 minutes. My doctor gave me a shield to wear for the first day for 4 hours and also wear at night for a week. They told me while showering not to get water into the eye for the week after the procedure. I positively would not wear eye makeup during that week for sure.  The doctor is the one to ask though, of course.

      Hi James

It sounds like your ops had a very good outcome.  Isn't it wonderful what modern science can do?  You were very brave to get through 2 ops.  Also to perform these procedures in such a short time is fantastic.

I have a list of questions to ask after the op but thought I would gather some information ahead of time just in case I forget anything, as I will be like a quivering jelly next Friday.  I will probably just hand them my list and they can write the answers down until I am back in the world of sanity!    Take care

My operations were scheduled one month apart. I did not have to worry about hair coloring or makeup thankfully. The doctor prescribed four different prescription eye drops that had to be used throughout the day. The whole process seemed to take forever.

      Hi James

Sounds like you had quite a time of it, hee! hee! good job you did not have to worry about makeup etc it must have been hard enough remembering the drops!  Luckily remembering drops should not be a problem for me, I react to the allergies in the air (I live in the worst place, Norfolk for this sort of thing, but it is lovely here!) and have blepharitis so I am always putting drops and gels in the eyes!

Still as your eyesight is so much better now it must have been worth it.  Hope you are enjoying the lovely weather.  Just off to take Rosie my Shih Tzu around the woods (more drops when I come back!).

      Warmest Wishes

    Hi

I had my left eye done in March and they told me no eye makeup for 2 weeks. I had 2 weeks off work and did jobs at home so no problem. Wore sunglasses if went to the supermarket! Good luck with op.

      Hi Debbie

Thank you so much for your good wishes. lol Oh I have been (and still am) such a wimp over this, even hit the sugar goodies, which I have not touched for 18 months!  I had a complete melt downfrown (which I didn't for the hysterectomy!) and two days of total bingeing! cry Still I am back on the straight and narrow with my bladder and bowel saying 'thank goodness for that!'  Tee! hee! still I keep thinking hang on until Friday 11.30 a.m. and it will all be over!  cool  I have some fun fashion large sunglasses as I cannot wear eye makeup for 6 weeks!  So I may look better than I usually do!

Hope your recovery is going well.

      Hi Gayle

Thanks for your good wishes.  Oh my god, even with my marvellous Mr Johnson it was my worst nightmare come true! frown Apparently I have deep set eyes (I never realised!) and Mr Johnson said he had never operated on anyone with such deep set eyes so it was extremely difficult for him to pin back the eyelids and the eyelashes, also he had to pin back a bit extra to allow for where my ingrowing eyelashes sometimes appear as he did not want them to grow near the new lens!   It was so so painful and he had to bruise my eye quite badly to get everything in place.  Tee! hee! I looked like a prize fighter yesterday. Mr Johnson kept apologising for the bruising and I did rally to say that I would tell everyone Ian did it!  He said if we hadn't have had the eyelash problem I would have been his quickest time as he did the actual op in record time.  It seemed like hours to me.  I kept trying to do my yoga breathing, it has always worked to calm me down before, but I just kept forgetting to breath, I was holding all my muscles in tight spasm!  Still I have survived.  The eye is very painful and sore, but I think that is to do with the bruising which is slowly going down.  I was totalled blurred yesterday, but today I can see out of the eye better than before the op but it is not perfect yet.  Still I was told it might take a few days.  Fingers crossed!

Hi Jacquie sorry to hear about your bad time but at least it's over now and things can only get better. One good thing you will only be without makeup for a week. It's surprising how quickly your eyes heal. Keep letting me know how you are. Gayle x

      Hi Gayle

How are you?  How soon did your new lens implant improve your sight?  I am getting worried as I have no improvement, in fact the sight is worst!  Everyone around me that has had it done say they have much improved sight straight away!

I keep hoping every day it will improve, especially as the bruising and broken blood vessels are improving.  Still I live in hope!

Hi Jacqueline I'm fine thank you. It was different for me as I had a gas bubble in my eye because of the macular hole that took 2 weeks to go and after that I could see better. If yours is getting worse then I wpd get back onto the clinic where you had it done. You should have seen an improvement straight away. It doesn't hurt to check so please give them a ring and please let us know how you get on. Gayle x

Hi Jaccqueline. Sorry to hear you having problems.

I had my left cataract done 11th March. Cloudy first day and then clear but a it blobby! Felt and looked like I had some fibres from a tissue stuck on my eye ball which I could not clear. They said to wait it it will probably clear. I have waited several weeks and had a couple of holidays in the meantime but still not cleared. Saw my optician as glasses broken and had to have something to see me through. He said after examination that some of the gel from the back of the eye had got disturned and was stuck to the front of the new lens. I then had another hospital appointment and he gave me 30 shots of laser to... as he said 'make a hole in the gel so I could see through it?' I thought at first it was a little better...but still more or less the same. It's getting me down a bit now. As with you, all my friends and family who had it done could see well immediately and have no longer needed glasses for distance.

I now have another hospital appointment 12th August so will see what they say then. They tell you all the things that could go wrong again before you have laser. Quite frightening and could 'blow' the new lens! Making me feel low as trying to work and struggling.

Let me know how you get on also.

      Hi Gayle

My Eye Clinic gave me an emergency appointment this morning before my surgeon started his normal day appointments.  He really gave my poor eye the once over in every which way.  The good news is that there is nothing wrong with the implant or the eye, but it is extremely inflamed basically from the trauma of the extreme clamping because of the deep set eyes.  Also because I have not been using my allergen eye drops or gels the eye has become completely dry, that is why everything feels so uncomfortable.

So I can now use all my allergen drops, gels etc and use the antibiotic drops every 4 hours.  He said it will take quite a long time for my sight in the left eye to settle down but it will eventually be fine.

Don't laugh, I was really wiped out when I came home, and just put myself into bed.  I slept for hours!

So no magic cure (there never is as you get older is there!) but at least I have my mind put to rest that everything is fine.  I must admit I was getting very stressed that something major had gone wrong!

Hope you are well, and have a lovely weekend planned.

      Love

Hi Jacqui I'm so glad everything is ok. It's a traumatic time especially when it's your eyes. At least you can relax now knowing there's nothing wrong. So take it easy and have a restful weekend. Keep in touch and let me know how you go on. Love Gayle x

      Hi Shirley

How is your eye doing?  It is very stressful isn't it especially when you are working, everything must be such a struggle for you.

My Eye Clinic gave me an emergency appointment this morning before my eye surgeon started his schedule for the day.  He certainly put my eye through its paces.

The good news is that there is nothing wrong, the implant is good and the eye is fine apart from very bad inflammation due to the eye lids having to be clamped severly due to my deep set eyes.  It has caused extreme bruising and blood vessels to burst.  Then throw in I have not been able to use my allergen eye drops and gels, so the eye is completely dry.  That is why it is so uncomfortable.  Tee! hee! I thought the implant was not in place properly and that I could feel it moving.  Oh the imagination is a terrible thing!

He said it will take time to heal and calm down, but at least I can now use my allergen drops and gels.  It is just a question of waiting!  No magic cure unfortunately!

The laser treatment sounds very scary doesn't it.  Let me know how you get on on the 12th August.  I really hope they can sort out your left eye for you.  It certainly brings home just how precious your sight is.

      Love
