Head pressure, Brain fog, odd head sensation, feeling detached

Hi all,

I decided to become a member and make a post here after reading the forums for quite a while, great site by the way.

I am currently suffering with various symptoms and am in a bad way and just don't know where to turn any more so thought I would post here and see if anyone has any similar experiences or advice.

So first of I am male and 26 years old. I have been suffering with the symptoms in the title pretty consistently for about 2 and a half years now. I used to have some relief from the symptoms for a day or 2 here and there or maybe a bit of relief for a few hours in the day but recently the symptoms are pretty much constant and I cannot shake them.

I have an overall mild pressure feeling in the head, its not painful but is just very aggravating and feels really strange. I also have extreme brain fog with this and like a fuzzy head, there is a constant cloud over my brain and I never have any mental clarity or a clear head. My cognitive function is extremely poor now, my short term memory is non existent, its scarily bad. I often feel, detached from reality when the symptoms are bad and suffer from de-realisation, although I think this may be down to some anxiety and depression I experience when the symptoms run me down. I also get random sharp cramping pains in the head, they are quite painful but do not bother me so much as they only usually last a second or 2, it varies on how many I get of these each day but its usually less than 5. It often feels as though my brain is malfunctioning somehow and my cognitive function and senses are all out of whack, its hard to explain. There can sometimes be a build up of these symptoms throughout the day and by the night I can feel like I somehow how the flu without a fever? Like I have the head pressure, completely foggy headed, I feel super unwell, weak, sometimes even start feeling cold. Also have night sweats usually for about 4 or 5 days each month, there doesnt seem to be any sort of pattern to them that I can notice, so not sure if they are relevant. Another thing I have is ringing in ears which is mild but seems to have gotten worse recently if that sounds relevant at all. The main thing that gets me is the odd head pressure/sensation and the utterly life hindering brain fog, my brain feels like it is coated in a dark blanket constantly.

I do suffer from anxiety, I know many of these symptoms can be caused or made worse by these symptoms. I dont doubt that anxiety is a contributing factor and the way I think about they symptoms probably makes them worse but I have come a long long way with my anxiety, I have good control over it, I haven't had a panic attack in a couple of years, I manage to control most of my concious anxiety and stay in a positive mindset. No doubt I still have some subconscious anxiety underlying and I am working on that but I am not convinced this is the route cause of my symptoms. I am in therapy for my anxiety. I do not feel I will ever fully recover while I have these symptoms hanging over me though.

I have been to the doctor about these symptoms, although I do think I struggle to explain them or put them across very well in the doctors office. I have have blood tests which are all normal. I saw a neurologist couple of years back when this started, had a CT scan which was normal, they put the stabbing pains down to icepick headaches and thought the other symptoms were probably made worse by my anx/depression. Since then I went away and have been on anti depressants etc with no improvement of symptoms. I have also had a few ECGs and a 24hr ECG as I have slow heart rate and low bp so thought maybe the symptoms could be down to low bp and lack of blood to the brain, doctors do not think think this is the case and all my results came back normal. I have recently been back to the neurologist who is referring me for an MRI although he said he is sure there is nothing sinister and thinks the symptoms are probably tension type headaches and made worse by and previous drug use, he only put it down to the drug use when i told him about it though so it seemed like a convenient diagnosis. I forgot to mention I used to take drugs on the weekends socially, cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy on different occasions for a couple of years, I have had periods where I have felt ok since taking these drugs and do not really think they are the cause, I was not an addict this was just one or 2 nights a month at the weekends. So I have an MRI coming up but the neuro thinks it will be clear and obviously I hope it is and I am looking for other answers.

What could be causing these symptoms? Other than anxiety which i no can be a factor, but I have periods where my anxiety is pretty much non existent but these symptoms still build up out of nowhere and persist. I was thinking maybe some sort of allergy could be a possibility, I have tried cutting out gluten and lactose, this didn't seem to make much difference although I didn't stick to this for very long. I actually did a juice fast for 2 weeks with eating nothing other than fruit and veg juice put through a juicer to see if that would help but it didn't really give me any relief. Are there any other stomach issues that could cause this? I never have diarrhoea or constipation, my stools always float recently though, to the point of not being able to flush them, also whenever I have seen chance medicine doctors they check me out and say they think i have issues with digestion, i don't feel i have these issues but do wonder if there might be something in it.

Could there be something going on with the blood vessels in my head? Could it be a spine/posture issue? Some sort of epilepsy or electrical activity in my brain? I just have no idea now and am desperate for some relief. If anyone has any ideas or advice I would really appreciate it.

Oh just to add I am reasonably fit, I try go to the gym a few times a week and I do some weight lifting. I am a normal weight. I have been losing some weight recently which is a concern but I am still in a normal weight range for height and age.

Thanks for reading

    Hello Recoverandhealth

I am 100% convinced that you are suffering from Lyme disease.  I had exactly the same symptoms as you.

Please research  into chronic Lyme disease and join facebook groups you will learn a lot and they can advice you on testing.

Doctors will end up diagnosing you with a million things and you will just end up having a bunch of diagnosis and no real solution to your problems.

It Is a treatable condition and you can have your life back.

I have been having these same symptoms for the past few weeks. Just this week I have been drinking a cup of water mixed with 2-3 teaspoons of Himalayan pink salt once or twice a day and it worked! I tested this by not drinking this yesterday or today and the symptoms came back pretty badly today.

My doctor tested my sodium levels and they were normal, but slightly on the lower end of the range. I am wondering if some people just require a higher salt intake?

I found this remedy by googling sodium deficiency.

Please try this and let me know if it helps!

I’ve been trying something similar to see if it helps with the woozy lightheaded feeling.  I take a cup of chicken broth heated up in the morning and again in the afternoon... it’s loaded with sodium and easy to take.

    Hi,

Curious how things have been for you?

Im searching for a solution myself ... found this thread in google search.

curious if you have a clunkin , separating like feeling in your neck?  When laying over a rolled towel, you’ll feel a separation like clunk and if you tend your neck muscles it will clunk back....

    how i feel symptom wise:

    1.  Loud tinnitus

    2.  Depression/Anxiety (this is getting worse it seems)

    3.  Feels like my brain has ammonia in it ... hard to explain

    4.  Of course Occipital pain and tension

    5.  Probably related to #2 but I lost emotional connection to things I loved.  I can recognize that I once did but no feeling comes.

I did come off of Xanax 6 months ago ... 🤯😳😱😰😫😭 and write ups on it are way true.  Worse than any other drug to come off.

i used for 6 years on, off and on for durations and more frequently towards the end.

so it “could” all be related to that.

    Hi all,

I started following all these threads summer of 2016 - I have always been a really laid back and relaxed person, however once my first year of university came to an end I was suddenly struck with brain fog and a detached feeling from reality, all very similar to symptoms that you are describing! It was such an un-usual and discomforting feeling that I quickly slipped into depression, reading a lot of unsolved similar cases online day in and night. For me it turns out that it was all due to anxiety and stress, but not only that, a chemical imblanance which takes place in your brain. I’d highly suggest getting a full blood picture to see if you’re lacking any vitamins or are having any hormonal imbalances. I started having codliver oil and vitamin D capsules. However even though that helped, it isn’t the whole solution. Over time the feeling completely subsided as I ate better and kept regular with my vitamins. The feeling went away as my stress started to decrease, however the same feeling has returned to me multiple times since then, the brain fog, detachment from reality and a continuous  twitch in my legs and arms. The one main conclusion I have come to, that completely rids me of all these feelings is: EXERCISE. It doesn’t subside the feelings over night but my God does it work. I started HIIT 45 minute work outs at my local gym and it does wonders. These detachment feelings come and go and only have lasted a few days in the past compared to the 3 months it took for the feeling to subside when I first got them! It might seem like the most difficult thing to do: exercise when you’re feeling low and under the impression that you will never feel normal again, but it is so worth it. Results won’t happen overnight but it is the fastest solution to this problem!

i have severe anxiety from feeling all this.  My neck feels like it has a lump in the back of it, hard to swallow, my hearing is very sensitive to every little noise. I have bad headaches all the time. Pain going from the top of my head to my feet on the right side. I had radio frequency procedure done that made things so much worse. All the nerves in my body are freaking out at every little movement i make. My mouth can't open right, my jaw feels weird, all the nerves make it hard to use. Pain in my lower back that goes to my knees and around my calf to my ankles.  I can't think straight, no sleep. i had fallen down steps and have gotten shots and procedures and nothing is helping, actually made things a lot worse. Going for more mri's for my neck and back but getting out is sooo hard. I need help. No one knows how i feel. doctors just say more pills that don't work and procedures.  I feel like i'm dying a slow death.

I'm not sure if you will reply as you put this up so long ago, but my partner is suffering the exact same as you, all the doctors seem to think it's anxiety, however he wasn't anxious until he started all the different meds they have given him to try. He has no quality of life is on the sofa most of the time as it's more easy on the tension. Does anyone have a diagnosis or cure, as he seems to be a mistery to our GP

Unfortunately there is no cure at this time but what helped the most is physical therapy, lots of relaxation massages for the neck and stretching.  That is the only thing that had help but not cured, I still have foggy brain 7 days a week 24 hours a day. Wish you all the best. Thierry

I was recently diagnosed with CFS/ME after having all of these symptoms for about a year. There is no cure sad

Hi Kristi, have you been tested for Lyme by an LLMD (Lyme Literate Doc)? I was told I had ME CFS for many years until a few months ago a new Naturopath tested for Lyme. It was positive....

There are many false negatives though. A Lyme literate doctor can give you a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms & a low CD57 test...as an example.

      Good luck to you!

Please tell him to see a naturopathic and get tested for Lyme.

I have been tested for Lyme 2x by my GP using the Western Blot Test, both tests came back negative. I will definitely check with a Naturopath, though I’ve heard there are also many false positives which is concerning. What are you being treated with and do you feel any better now?

I’ve been following this forum for several months. I’ve posted couple times. I have several  symptoms as others on here.

I have a question:  has anyone on here had a traumatic brain injury?

My partner was physically abused by his father when he was a child. Hit across the head with planks of wood whipped with bicycle chains and belts,

I’m so sorry that your partner endured that. I don’t know how people can hurt children; it’s horrible.

Does your partner have pressure and fuzzy feelings in their head?

      Hi gussysmom,

Yes he dose suffer with brain fog, tension at the back of his head, he said he feels like something is crushing or squeezeing his scull with a vice. I asked the GP to test for vitamin B12 deficiency, the result came back yesterday but the only thing they said was he has a problem with his liver and he needs a retest in 6 weeks. They didn't mention his B12.
