Headache, dizziness, and neck pain

Has anyone else experienced weekly headaches that just seem to last no matter how much sleep you get or water you drink? I also have neck pain in which I have already seen both chiropractor and physical therapist for. When I have these headaches, I feel pressure behind my ways so intense I can't stand bright lights. On top of all this I am dizzy, however, my balance is totally fine. I have already been to an ENT specialist and had an MRI, etc. Only thing I haven't moved onto is a neurologist because I already am racking up my medical bills and yes I have health insurance but a crappy one at that! Please help. Has anyone else been experiencing this and if so, what did you do to rid it?

Much appreciated!

I'm both alarmed and relived to have found this thread as I too have been sufering with chronic daily headaches, fatigue, dizzyness, stiff neck and pressure in the ears for over a year (relived that I'm not the only one suffering, and alarmed at how many other sufferes there are).

As others have mentioned, I have tried to avoid medication becuase I don't want to "mask" the problem but rather treat the root cause. That being said, I feel like I have wasted an incredible amount of money chasing different types of physio therapy, chiropractors and other means to rid me of these symptoms, to no real avail. The worst part about this condition is the constant "thinking about it" that is just so hard to escape from (and ultimately makes it worse)

Now we're a couple weeks away from a new year I can't help but feel even more anxious at the thought of entering yet another year with the symptoms still haunting me... and ofcourse, that only adds to the tension and stress. I've also been off work for most of the year which has only added to the anxiety.

I have had MRI's/Xrays etc but I have found dealing with doctors to be frustrating (I won' go into that now) - they have collectively agree that I am suffering from Vestibular Migraines and I'm starting to come around to the idea of using medication as a final resort to control the pain and find a way out of the "circle of pain".

Can anyone offer any insight into which medication has helped them? Like eberyone else, I just want to be "normal" again.

Hi ayzzie... it does seem that panic attacks and anxiety go hand in hand with this condition. I too, a very confident person usually, have become a nervous wreck constantly worried about my symptoms. Of course, that only makes the symptoms worse so it is a vicious circle.

I tried propronol which definitely helped stop the headaches from coming on, but unfortunately it made the dizzyness and vertigo unbearable. Propronol causes a reduced heartbeat which, if you already have a lower than average heart rate, will cause all sorts of side effects. Unfortunately I had to stop taking it after a few days and headaches came back with a vengeance.

This Christmas has been miserable for me as I've had a constant thumping headache and nobstop dizziness. It really makes you feel self conscious as you're aware how much symptoms affect those around you too.

Utterly horrible condition, what ever it is :-(

Look at the sternocleidomastoid muscle. I was going through the same symptoms for eight months and have been to all the doctors with no results however came across a sprained/stained sternocleidomastoid muscle will cause all the symptoms I was having. I then performed the exercises they speak of and within five mins they all went away. Good luck

Thank you so much for this... I have looked into it and started to do some of the stretches 3x a day. I've definitely noticed an improvement in the symptoms but I wanted to ask what specific stretches and excercises you did and how long you did them before the symptoms went away completely?

      Thanks again for posting.

I did the first stretch that I sent u and within 5 mins I heard the muscle pop and immediately all the symptoms went away. It has been about three and half weeks since and I haven't had any symptons.

Would you mind sending me the stretches you're talking about? I'd like to try them. thank you smile

Standing up, turn your head opposite of the effected side/muscle. Tilt head back at a 45. Use you effected side hand and run it down the back side of your leg as far as you can. You will feel the stretch in the muscle. Good luck

I too have been suffering headache pain, I have been taking Gabapentin 300mg. The Neurologist thinks my headache is from my occipital nerve. So I am going to get a shot of steroids in that muscle located back of head lower left side. Hoping that it works.

Did the gabapentin work for you? Did you have any side affects from it?

      Hi,

May i know what were your symptoms exactly? And did the doctors gave you the diagnosis?

    • Posted

The doctors did not diagnosis me. It was all learned from researching the different muscles in the neck area on my own. Symptoms: foggy feeling all day, nausea not to the point of vomiting but consistant throughout the day, blurry vision, feeling of fullness on effected side, ringing in ear(effected side) when turning head onset of all the above. Symptoms would cease immediately after laying down and staying still.
