Headaches

Hi all,

I’ve only been on sertraline for 5 days now and I’m getting really severe headaches. It says you’re not supposed to take ibuprofen either so I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue, what they did to treat the headaches or if this side effect stopped?

      Hi Debra

I actually started to take it because I get very bad headaches and migraines as a result of anxiety and stress. I’m on 50mg at the moment. I’m immune to paracetamol so I can’t take that to help with the headaches. It’s hard to tell if the headaches are just my usual or a side effect of the sertraline. I’m getting a lot of the other common side effects too making it very hard to cope with.

Are you not allowed to take ibuprofen? I had some yesterday and was ok ... oops

I had the headaches as well but as I got migraines I wasn’t sure if it was the Sertraline .... it was however - on week 4 now and they are tapering off.

      Hi Phil,

I think you can take it but it increases your side effects, seems to be what I've found from googling about it. I took some yesterday and my headache just kept getting worse so now I know why! Hopefully they will settle down soon

    Hi Laura,

I had really bad headaches for the first couple of weeks and only took paracetamol which to be honest took the edge off but never really took it away.  Make sure your drinking plenty of water.

How are you doing other than the headaches? xx

      Hi Paula,

I can't take paracetamol as im immune unfortunately so i'm a bit lost about what to do! I'm drinking plenty of water... as a result of the dry mouth side effect. To be honest I feel worse than I did before, finding it very hard to be motivated some days are better than others and i'm getting pretty much all of the other side effects and insomnia. Not sure if I should switch to taking it in the mornings or not. Coming on this forum has helped so much though. Do you still get the headaches now?

I've been taking it for 5 weeks now ( 1 week at 25 mg and 4 weeks at 50mg) I would say it's only in the last week I have started feeling a bit better, slowly getting my appetite back and having better days.

I felt terrible for the 1st 4 weeks and had all the side effects too but from what I've read on this forum sertraline is quite slow acting but we just have to be patient ( hard as it is to be lol)!

I got some bachs rescue night remedy and Lush sleepy body lotion which really helped me drift off at night.

I'm not getting headaches anymore so hopefully they pass soon for you too and you start feeling better. xxxx

      Hi Debra,

I got mine from Holland and Barrett.

It's Bachs rescue night remedy, it is a natural remedy but it really helped me along with the Lush sleepy body lotion and this works pillow spray.

These things together helped relax me and I drifted off easier and slept right through.

Hope you feel better soon xxxx

    Oops

I've had ibuprofen android prescribed by my doctor. And was OK. Try cocodamol. Yeah headaches are common with setraline but they do ease. It's crazy dreams with me. Hopefully your headache gets easier.

Cocodomol is what I’ve been taking but it has paracetamol in it as well ...

      Hi,

I had googled it initially, and then I read the leaflets that come with the medication and it says that taking ibuprofen can increase your side effects. I then read the leaflet for the ibuprofen which said to not take it with SSRI medication. But I never trust those leaflets fully hence why I came on here to see what other people thought.

      Thanks though smile

Hi trishtrash wot mgs r u on? And av they kicked in yet? As I’ve been on 100mgs now for the past 7wks with little progress. Still get Jittery, palpitations and still feeling like I’ve lost myself. Is this normal? Or do you think I should up my dose 🌹

      Hi

Have u spoken to the doctor and told him?

Maybe these meds are not for you or just needs a bit longer. Don't up yet everything you just said you felt where my initial side effects but I'm on only 25mlg as I'm very sensitive to meds and I just recovered from major surgery so I'm really just taking edge off

Good luck it's a dog of a thing but remember your not alone.. hoping you start having good days
