Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Hello everyone!
Bob- I know how you feel, I keep wondering if I'll ever get back to walking normally again. I'm going to ask my surgeon tomorrow about physio, or at least some exercises I can do. I've got a fair bit of movement back in the toe, but not enough to pick up the towel yet! (p.s. Baseball? Mike Trout? Not a clue!)
Rena, Yes I'm still limping quite markedly. The pain is in the ball of my foot near the base of my toes, and also the top of my foot near the toes. My second and third toes weren't operated on yet feel stiff too. It's all in the bending of the foot. I'm going to ask at the appointment tomorrow if I should just ignore the pain and try to walk properly.Still too painful use the clutch pedal yet.
As for work, well! The second day back, my colleague who had covered my work went off sick! She's off today too, so I've had to do loads of extra hours to catch up instead of less!! I also said that I'm not taking my consultant appointment tomorrow as time owed because I'm still officially on sick leave until Monday, and got some funny looks for that.
So, lesson to all (especially Joan) don't go back before you really have to, because it's 'business as usual', and forget doing shorter hours! (One colleague even said that doing shorter hours was 'just an over precaution'! )
Ho hum , rant over.lol.
Keep your best foot forwards!

Been up and down since my work's visit. But today - I am feeling good and actually feeling ready to go back to work, though I am enjoying my time off and I would like to enjoy more time off while I am feeling great and able to get about, but suppose I do have to go back, only another 7 years then I can retire. No seriously I do miss my workmates, they are a great bunch and I miss the chatter.
Well foot talk - today I realise I don't even have that niggly achy burning tingling feeling - great, just have to now stop thinking about my foot every minute of the day. It is still swollen but not too bad.
Bob, think you are great going for your next operation in 2 weeks, I don't have the courage yet, just want to be pain free for a while but would like to have it all over with too. You need to get that foot in good condition before the next op, you will be relying on it, slow down just a little and rest, Listen to what RENA is saying too. Feeling sad for your mum, but you know you are doing all you can for her.
I spoke to my GP re exercise so it is to be treadmill walking, cycling, swimming and upper body - just have to get a routine made up now.
Kim how is work doing - I need to get out and buy new shoes and work clothes, it was winter the last time I went to work.
Mel, Patricia Rena, love all your news, too much to reply to but hope you all have a wonderful day - and I cant believe I am on week 9 and looking back at all the trials of this op, it is good to have written it all down in this forum.
our weather is chilly and rainy, 9 weeks and only one sunny day to sit in the garden, boo hoo. Never mind I have lots of annual leave days now to take off.

Oh well, it's not too bad, and it's good catching up with everyone again. I'm wondering if I can be cheeky and claim back the bank holidays from during my sick leave as we have to count them in with our holiday allowance. (But unlikely)

Got here a little late today, but here I am. Today I need to get back up on the crutches and practice the heel walk again. Had two days without it as I really over did it on Sunday.
It was 5C here this morning at 8am but will hit 20C later this afternoon. We are used to temps in the -30C, yes your read that right, minus in the winter months. Not for too long but for a week long for sure. Its so nice today with all the windows open here.
Bob, your doing great. Awesome game you both went too, have fun for the both of you. Glad you able to get out again and enjoy the real life. ENjoy your Mom as much as you can, she loves you even when she doesnt feel well. I guess I better get bending the toes too.
Patricia, what is the highest and lowest temps in Summer and Winter that you get. I am just interested to know. Wine is always helpful, lol Hang in there, your doing great.
Spice girl MEl, sounds like FUN on the boat. You can sit and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the waves go by. Careful of your foot just dont over do it.
Rena, how exciting the the foot is behaving better and your able to get out and about so much better. I cant wait for that the happen. Sorry to hear that you need more work done. Going shopping must be so much FUN.
Kim, dont let them push you around. You need to look after you. They think that when are you back at work your all better and the healing is done.
To the rest hiding around, hang in there. Soon we will all be pushing our foot to the Olympics, lol. One step at a time.

Morning to all the Bunion Babes
This is my 3 and final try after losing to posts so far.
Yesterday made it up to 30 minutes on bike, 15 on eliptical and a PT session on my own and one with my therapist. I still can't do heel to toe walking without alot of pain. Today I will keep going after it even harder.
Rena - CEO of this forum.I can relate to being a 4 B'er myself. '' Bird Brained Bunion Boy '' What we also have is we are both retired and like you said it's time to put ourselves back together after years of trudging.
Anitagirl. More Heel to Toe walking in boot today. As Emerald would say, ''Let's kick it up a notch ''
Mel ( Spice Girl ) That crew stuff is an awesome way of life. Sport that new foot of yours. I know that you will feel even more confident out there!!!!
RENA - CEO of this forum. It's ok to feel like a BBBBer. I with you, retired and taking care of our health. I'm a Bird Brained Bunion Boy every day.
Kim - I'm close to getting that towel. You are actually in my thoughts will doing so. Imagine and I haven't even met you. The power of motivation. Keep pushin Bunion Babe Kim!!
ANITAGIRL. - Heel to Toe, More of it today. Let's get it going and keep going Bunion babe from Canada
Joan - I hear you on that second surgery. I fear it and I'm going after it anyway. Bunion Babes can do anything with FAITH it will be ok.
Patricia, - Hope all is well!!
Remember , today just stay out of our own way and we will be fine. Keep your head up, we can see more that way. If your struggling, help somebody!!!
Love to the Babes!!!!

Today has been a turning point after seeing my consultant. He's made me see that I was being too cautious, so I'm determined improve my walking technique without worrying that I'm doing any damage.
I feel much more positive now!

Had my 8 week check up today.
I've been told to walk properly despite the pain, and not to keep walking on the side of my foot.I've also got to keep manipulating the toe joint beyond the point where it hurts. They've given me a follow up appointment in 1 month to see how I'm getting on, and if it's needed they'll give me an injection to loosen the joint. apart from that, everything is healing well.
Hope everyone has had a good day today, 'normality' is just around the corner.

When I first started to try to walk heel to toe in my trainers (at 5 weeks) it was very uncomfortable on the ball of the foot under the big and 2nd toes. After a few more days of limping along terribly the swelling in my foot reduced enough to be able to wear the trainers with my orthotic inserts. What a relief! I pronate (which is one of the reasons for my bunion, in addition to heredity) so as soon as that orthotic was in it took the pressure off the operated joint and the ball of the foot hurt a great deal less. Also, I noticed that the slower I walk, the better I am able to get the heel to to motion in. As each day goes by my heel to toe motion is getting more and more complete with less and less discomfort. So take heart and know that the more you keep moving that foot the way it should be moved the easier it will get with every passing day....or as Bob would say, "work it girl!"
One other thing...on FB in the group "I Survived a Buiontectomy!" there are a number of informative files and one document has some excellent ROM exercises. If you like I can scan it and email it to you.

I'd be grateful if you could send me the document (do I have to send you my email address or do you message it to me?)
