Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Back to working a full week now, not really a problem, well I hope I can say that when Friday comes and I am exhausted. Not having much swelling or anything, I can sit at my desk with ease this week, last week I was a bit uncomfortable. My foot does still feel tender and hot around the bunion area, plus I think I am just getting the feelings back in big toe which means that the nerves are healing. Still building up my energy levels and strength at the gym and going swimming, but getting the time is the most difficult bit now.
Jenny, I was laughing as I did not read your post correctly at first and thought it said "do not wear a thong shopping". ha ha. I know what you are talking about though, I find that if my shoes are not fitting right then my foot will get sore. Even my slippers, I need to get new ones as I am just shuffeling about in them as they are too big because I bought them about 3 weeks post op.
Bob, nearly the 2 week mark for you, things will be turning the corner shortly, bet you are glad that both feet are now done and the worst is over, I still have to do that, but I have learned so much this time, next time will be a daudle. Hope you got to see your mom and that your cable is now fixed and you have had a comfortable day, remember THIS TOO SHALL PASS - in a couple of weeks you will be so pleased that everything is over and you will be up and about again, hey, whats a few weeks out of one year. During my recent gym sessions, I am taking note of some things I will be able to do while out of action with the right foot, I will try follow you in some ab crunches and arm weights at least.
Anita girl, how you doing, you preparing for that big party, how is your weather, its pretty rainy as usual in Glasgow, but at least warm rain now. Keep the healthy eating going, stick to low fat, I am on it to, yogurt and fruit for me for breakfast, grilled chicken / rice / salad / tuna fish / eggs, even a wee treat allowed.
Rena glad your feeling so much more upbeat and that your toes will be fixed, reading your posts on FB.
Kim, keep dancing, I will join you, Mel, love the blue nail varnish. Patricia - Hi
We are all moving on - but lets keep talking to each other, love to hear all about your lives, we are like pen friends - remember you had them when you were young, before internet, actually wrote letters to people and posted them, its still always nice to get a letter posted through your door that is not a bill.
Have a wonderful day

Morning. The last two weeks certainly have not been a picnic, in fact since March 28th I feel like General Custard in Custard's Last Stand. Been a battle. Got outside yesterday and up on the boardwalk and sat for awhile. Our boardwalk is about 14 miles long in front of our beach. Good place to walk, run or ride bikes. Stopped to see mom and she couldn't get out of bed. Was a sad about that. Had a nice lunch with Annette. Asian Calamari salad.
Today it will be much of the same thing.Cool and damp today. Pain level is tolerable and get my stiches out tomorrow. Annette is babysitting her friends 3 year old so I have to work around that at home today. PATIENCE!!!
NITAGIRL - Proud of you doing your bike and getting on the ''EATING HEALTHY'' wagon. I struggle with my diet somewhat.Hang in there. ''DAY AT A TIME""
KIMMY - Thanks for checking in. Keep working that therapy.
JENNY - Slow down and smell the coffee, right !!!! Feel !!
SPICE GIRL - I'll be fine. Thanks for the encouragment. Always uplifting. Careful you don't drop that anchor on those sexy feet. Glad I saw the word foot after the word DANG .LOL
JOANIE V - My surgeon said the same thing. My V will be there I'm afraid. That's ok. We will be the ''V FOUNDATION'' Glad to hear you are getting your workouts in. Hopefully you can stay in the day and not let your future surgery fear you up.
That's all for today. Thanks gain to all the ''BUNION BABES '' for sticking around and helping myself and others thru this process.
Have a great day!!!

WEEK 15!
Reporting in to let you all know that life is good. Sporting brown toes after a week in Turkey -just what was needed. Nothing to do but sit in the sun and rest! Survived the 4 hour flight thanks to compression sox-stopped the ankles and feet swelling.
Feet still swell after a day at work but they behave better if I move about. That's not what happens to everyone-I still find it fascinating how different all our recoveries are! The niggles are really strange-the pins and needles feeling that we all get. They must be a positive thing as my feet always feel much better after a niggle session.
So impressed at how well everyone is getting on and at how brave you second timers a
re. Don't lose heart-you'll soon be running on those new feet. Just think how great we'll all feel by Christmas!
Take care,
Eileen

Morning. Another day I had to grind thru yesterday. Not much going on. Friend picked me up and I got out for an hour or so. Boredom is really setting in for me. Weather has been gloomy the past 4 days. Woke up in alot of pain.
On the bright side I am grateful that I am on the road to recovery and as Eileen pointed out, by Xmas time it will be all a distant memory.
EILEEN - Nice to hear fro you. Thanks for the encouragement and happy to hear you and your feet are feeling good. That inspires me to keep pushing along.
Hope all the ''BUNION BABES'' are doing well!!
Hugs to ANITAGIRL, RENA, JOAN, JENNY, PARICIA, KIMMY.
Have to accept whatever comes down the pike today!!!!

Don't you hate having to depend on others? I know I do. I just am so thankful that my right foot is not bad enough to need doing. I know that if it were my right foot I would have had to spend tons on cabs to get me out of here! LOL Thank god for that knee scooter. You are able to use it right?
Hope today is a better one OB. Thinking of you !

Morning!! Wasnt able to post yesterday but I did read. Went to physio yesterday and well she wants me to push more, sheeesh. I guess it really is bootcamp. I do need that. She wants me to use my excercise bike 30min everyday (Bob need your coaching here). Its not hard but takes a while. Not much tension just go go go. Not sure why. I looked on line at utube and found a few excercises on line and relieazed that I have to learn to walk more on the big toe, so will work on that more. PT wants me to start driving WHAT!!! I dont feel ready yet at all. She said to start in a parking lot. I asked the Dr for a note saying I am good to drive just in case something happens, I dont want to be liable and they would point the finger at me for sure without the note. Have to pay for the note $35 but its worth it compared to what it could be if I had an accident.
Was on the phone a lot yesterday. Mom will be coming home next Thursday if everything goes well. My life will change then. Right now I am alone till hubby comes home and well enjoying it. I know it will be good but will be a big change for me and for her too. She had an ECT yesterday and seems a little calmer. The Doctor has scheduled her every 2 weeks as an outpatient. That is going to be hard this summer but trying to work out something between provinces. Hopeing that it can be done 2 hours from the lake versus 10 hours. If we have to come back to Calgary then will have to take a plane back and forth. That will really add up, but guess that is the way it goes. You cant take it with you $$.
Today planing on a little house work. Need to get my summer clothes out of hiding. I have been working on that for a while but just never finished it so today is the day. Must do the bike for 30min (yes Bob I will do it). A bit of paper work. Tonight after dinner I will head up to the hospital for a visit as hubby will be paddling tonight. He drops me off and then picks me up. So that works well.
Eilleen, so nice to see you again and happy that life is getting much better for you. Sorry to hear that the swelling still appears. Are you still icing at night. I am going the dip/dip every night before bed and WOW it helps a lot. 30secs in ice water and 30secs in warm water. Total of 5 mins, ending in ice water. Seems to be really helping my foot. Dont be afraid of the ice as really your foot will enjoy it. I was scared but my foot loves it now.
Bob, yep life is different when it is your right foot. Loss of independence. I hated and still do that. Looking forward to getting it back. Can you walk on your big toe with the other foot? Or are you still struggling with it. Does it still swell up?
To the rest, hope life is going well and your full of things to do that you couldnt before. ENjoy the summer.

Over the world. Glad it's Friday tomorrow, been tired today, couldn't get out my bed this morning, just had a bit of a lie in, hard going this going to work every day, had to elevate this afternoon. Probably cause I had a busy day yesterday didn't get to sit down until 10pm. Work, then the gym and swimming the off to the cinema to see GrAce of Monaco, it was an ok movie not brilliant though.
Great news Anita about your mom, something nice to look forward too.
Rena get on that bike, get that routine started. I feel that I get stronger every time I go, trying for every 2nd day, plus go a walk on the other days.
Bob why is the right foot different, I actually thought it would be easier, ? Well 2 weeks has now passed for you, you are healing more every day, won't be long now, you will get back to walking along that boardwalk (beach front I presume)
Well World Cup fever has taken over, all men are now glued to tv screens for the next 4 weeks. Need to arrange some girly things to do.
Eileen, good to hear from you .
Anyone on FB see some amazing recovery times from some of the girls over there, just shows how different everyone is.
Cheerio the noo fae Glasgow, night night
