Help, getting really down about Molluscum
Posted , 25 users are following.
I picked up Molluscum from a spa day back in March this year. I had the usual story of doctors telling me its fine and not to worry about it.
I then lost out on a relationship because of it in the summer and also started war on them.
I have had 3 freezing sessions at the clinic and new ones keep popping up or old ones coming back so I then brought a home kit as they wont let me back until three weeks have passed.
I am also using TTO which has helped shrink but never get rid of them.
I get really really down and upset about this virus as its been 5/6 months and new spots tend to appear over night. I have got to the point I don't know what is a little spot / blemish or what is a wart now and feel like I am treating anything.
Can anyone tell me how long they had this for? and also what do they look like when you are winning? Did they just stop appearing or did they appear then disappear quickly or all suddenly just start healing.
I just want a sign that my body is fighting it. I dont drink much, dont smoke, taking vitamins, work out etc.

Thank you, Gemma. I am so appreciative of people who have already been down this road who are willing to share their experience. You are probably tired of responding to questions, but can you just confirm your timeline a bit? You think you got it back in March of '19, then started fighting it the summer of '19. Then, you seemed to turn the corner to real healing about six months later. How long has been now since you had a confirmed lesion?

it's hard to remember now but I really struggled mentally july to septemebr and they just kept popping up. I started a relationship and he was happy to wait and late nov we got intimate and I was sure he would get it as i thought one had gone and it hadnt but he has been fine and so thankful for that.
after that i had one jan time i treated myself but not sure if it was one or not and any bumps I panicked about after went so. I would say march to November 2019 def felt like a lifetime

Seems like I'm on a somewhat similar time table, just a year later. I think I got in the spring. Then I started fighting them in late summer, and I have been totally wrecked mentally ever since. I noticed that you mentioned way back that you had dealt with major scarring from some of your treatment. I am getting to the point where I am almost more concerned about the big red splotchy scars than I am about the molluscum. The discoloration/scarring is totally unsightly. I take off my pants/underwear and I look like a leper. It's been weeks and the scars have barely improved. How long did it take your scars to disappear?

Hi Gemma, thanks for everything that you've shared on here, it's been really helpful to read as a fellow young woman who is feeling incredibly anxious because of this virus.
Based on your posts, it looks like you're in the UK; if I may, did you have the freezing done privately or on the NHS? I've had molluscum for about 4 months now, I've seen multiple GPs who told me not to do anything and one who told me to try molludab which I've done but it didn't work unfortunately. I've also tried tea tree oil and tcp to no effect.
I have mild psoriasis and eczema so I am particularly concerned about autoinoculation as my skin is poor anyway. So far it has been confined to my legs but I believe I have just found a spot on my hip and I'm quite freaked out.
Thanks again!

Hi that ok I am glad that people find it helpful and reassuring, I must admit I found the GP's really unhelpful and as its not seen as serious (but it is mentally) they wont help you. yes I am in the UK and I went to the local GUM clinic which was a pain having to sit and queue for ages but it was worth it. However, they may not be doing it now due to covid you may want to phone up first. Be careful with the tea tree oil as my skin suddenly decided it would react to even the most tiny bit and I had to throw it away so I wouldnt try it again haha.
Hope you get on ok and lets hope the one on your hip is just a random bump and will go in a few days.
Feel free to ask anything,

Hi Gemma,
Thanks so much for your reply. I've managed to get a phone appointment for the GUM clinic, was it hard to convince them to do the cryotherapy, or were they quite open to the idea?

Hi Gemma , i had it from october through april/may and the only thing i can tell you it will go away. I know your life is runined, no sex, worried to pass it on to someone close to you, which actually could really happen if you are not careful. I tried everything out there back then, tea tree oil, vinegar, clover oil, a cream prescribed by my doctor which i dont remember the mane but effective but very messy however, but none of the worked. Actually they work on a few bumps but other will come up. What i figured by the end was the the Salicylic acid is the one you would want to try cause once applied on the molluscum it creates a white sort of roof over the bumb till it's gone. Go with the Salicytic Acid.
Be patient it will go away.

Hey guys,
I've been following this discussion for a while now and I wanted to share a little bit about my experience with molluscum. So, unfortunately I have been battling this horrible virus in my genital and inner thigh area on and off for about 5 1/2 years now which doesn't seem to make sense because I am a healthy person who exercises often. I have tried countless "treatments" including cryrotherapy (which worked), acid (worked but left terrible scarring), ACV, TTO, TTA (also worked), and currently I am using podofilox and taking a lot of vitamins. The podofilox does work but for every single treatment that I've tried that does work, the bumps ALWAYS come back. Every single time I think I've finally defeated this virus I get knocked right back into reality. I am honestly starting to think this depressing reality is permanent. On top of all of this, I am EXTREMELY cautious... like to the point of severe OCD. So I am pretty much doing everything I can to overcome this virus and finally start enjoying my life. The thing about this virus is that it is so hard to differentiate between a molluscum bump and a normal skin bump so I get anxiety about any bump that pops up on my body and I have just begun treating every single bump that pops up in that area to be incredibly careful. Also, doctors are absolutely zero help with this virus... I even went to an infectious disease specialist and she pretty much told me there wasn't much she could do for me. SO YEAH.. I just wanted to share my story and possibly get some advice. Also, I am attaching images of these red bumps that I currently have in the area to get your opinion (molluscum or just a red bump??)
Thank you guys. I hope your experience with molluscum is a much shorter journey than mine has been!
Sorry about the hair, I know its disgusting but I am too scared to shave at the moment.

I'm really sorry, Ally. That's far too long to go through this. Has your doctor been able to confirm that the new spots you keep getting are in fact MC? Has an experienced dermatologist confirmed this? The pictures you posted look to my untrained eye like they could be MC, but I also notice that there might be a hair growing sideways into each bump (?). I would get a conclusive expert opinion, and I guess (again, I am just a newbie at this) I would keep looking for a derm who is willing to fight for me. Sending you sympathy.

Thank you for responding to my post.. I really appreciate it! I have not gotten those spots checked out by a doctor. Honestly, through all of the years that I have been dealing with this virus, I have found that the majority of doctors are rather unhelpful. For the most part I try to treat them myself instead of wasting more money on unhelpful opinions at the doctors. Its so sad how doctors disregard this virus as something really minor when in reality it is mentally traumatizing for individuals dealing with it.
