HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!

Posted , 95 users are following.

First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.

I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!

I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.

I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?

I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

I can relate to this post. I have always had bladder issues. I had an infection so bad when I was a kid that they had to insert a catheter to empty my bladder. Back then, they told my mom to stop letting me take baths. This advice seemed to help until I reached puberty and began my cycle. Ever since this time, I seem to get a UTI almost every month! The burning, the urge to go, etc. I am a virgin and am not on any form of birth control. I try to be as hygenic as possible and as soon as I feel symptoms I begin to self treat with home remedies (water, cranberry juice, etc) and over the counter medications. I am getting concerned that this could mean something is wrong with my bladder. Getting tests done is expensive and I don't have insurance but I may have to bight the bullet and try to find out why this has been going on almost monthly for nearly 17 years!

Wipe down with witch hazel as soon as you feel a UTI coming on. It's gentle enough to use on your lady parts and its also an astringent so it'll kill the UTI causing bacteria down there. I use to get UTI's after EVERY single time I had sex. Ever since I started using witch hazel I haven't gotten one UTI and it's been almost five months now. In other words, witch hazel will be your savior from UTI's.

      Hi there,

When do you use the witch hazel and how often?

I get uti’s after sex and I’ve been washing before and after sex and my partner does as well. Plus going to the toilet before and afterwards.

I feel great after sex then the next day I get the uti, it’s making me scared to have sex again!

      Hey there!

So there’s a whole routine I do before and after sex that I’ve found to be 100% successful in keeping my UTI’s away in addition to the witch hazel! I have sex 5 times a month usually and I have not had a single UTI using this regimen! So here’s what I do… Before sex I take a shower and clean my private parts just with warm water. Then, before sex I drink 1 teaspoon of D-mannose powder with less than 6oz of water. (not anymore water than that as you do not want to dilute the solution). Immediately following sex I always wipe down my lady area with witch hazel to get rid of any gross bacteria that could have moved to my lady parts after sex too (just pour some on a cotton pad). After about 45-60 minutes, (which your sexy time would be done by wink if you’re not too kinky haha) I chug 32 ounces of water in under an hour (the d-mannose should have collected all the bacteria in your bladder by then so now you can flush it out!) . You want to drink it in under an hour so you can pee your brains out afterwards. The next day after sex, I take two cranberry azo gummies, two probiotic gummies, and my regular multivitamin. I also do another cleanse with the D-mannose powder but the day after I usually drink 16oz of water with fresh lemon squeezed into it (lemon alkalizes the bladder making it harder for bacteria to grow, Yayy!!) along with another bottle (16oz) of plain water. Again, I do this after I let the d-mannose powder sit in my bladder for 45-60 minutes (taken with less than 6oz of water). Also I rinse off immediately the day after sex as well with warm water just to really clean my lady area. (even though I did use witch hazel right after sex, this is just another precaution). That’s it!!! No more UTI’s and I can have sex whenever I want!! I hope this does work for you!! I also wanna mention that I follow up with the azo cranberry gummies every single day in the mornings whether I’ve had sex the day prior or not (again another precaution because I’m paranoid about UTI’s).  AND WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF NO MORE UTI’S WOO!!

      Best of luck!!!!

      Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing your routine for before and after sex to help stop UtI’s. I will try this and fingers crossed that I will have no more UTI’s and just enjoy my time with my partner before and after sex and not be in so much pain for days afterwards!

      Hi Ian,

I have a new partner and I keep getting uti’s every time we have sex even though I follow a strict routine of washing before and after (also my partner does this too) and going to the toilet before and after.

I have only every had this once before  every time I had sex when I was with another partner. Other partners I haven’t had any problems after having sex with them. So maybe it has to do with my partners seminal fluids, he may have bacteria that is infecting me.

Did they cure your infections and did your partner stop having uti’s afterwards?

Thanks for your post as it got me thinking!

hi... i've been having mine for more than 10 years nows... i've done all everyone has said here and more... exams, changing birth control... the thing is with all these years and all meds i've been taking other complications are showing up..  with birth control, without birth control they still happen... it's annoying to always here the doctors say "oh we don't know why you have them, everything is ok, no abnormalties show up on the exams, we just don't understand"...

well guess what i don't understand either, the only thing i know is that it hasn't been easy living all these years wondering everyday and at every moment if the next time i need to go to the bathroom i'll have to be on my way to the hospital once again... i'm sick of this and it's hard on me but it hurts even more when you're in the hospital and you look at your loved one's faces and you see the pain they're in just by seeing what the doctor's put you through to try to relief your pain.

please someone come up with something to help us once and for all

Oh, I so understand the constant worry no matter where you are, that it might just flare up again with the pain.

I've been able to control things for a while with D-Mannose and Cystex Plus which is an over the counter medicine here in the US.

I just got done with my antibiotics because I just got another UTI. It is so frustrating not to be able to figure it out. I'll see a urologist on Thursday and I am hoping for a cure or solution!!!!

I am so sorry, that you have to go to the hospital ... why is that? Do the antibiotics not work for you?

I feel your pain but I dont think it is birth control pill related or at least not only because of that. I am 56, a retired nurse, and have been post menopausal for 20 years. I hardly ever had one when on the pill. I have been getting them about every month for the last 10 months, 12 times so far. I am noe seeing a specialist here in Canada. He put me on a low dose Septra antibiotic every other day about 5 weeks ago but have had two more uti since then. Obviously not working. I too have tried every trick in the book short of abstaining from sex altogether which I hope I dont have to. This weeks uti had me see a dr at a walk in clinic for antibiotics and dr also said use estrogen cream around urethra and vaginal opening. We will have to see if that helps. I get an abdominal pelvic bladder ultrasound tomorrow and return to specialist in about 10 days. I'll keep the forum updated if he has any new recommendations.

Have you considered that you might be dealing with interstitial cystitis? It mimics the symptoms of UTI's. I get both UTI infections and intersititial cystitis. I've been dealing with them for 27 years, 3 urologist and no answers either but if you do also have interstitial cystitis, your bladder may be irritated by food or drinks you eat and cause it to inflame and burn.

I too wondered if in my case it might be this but my urine tests are always showing high white cell counts and blood cells in urine indicative of an infection. Someone posted about a history of a urethral stricture as a cause. I had surgery for this when I was 3. Seeing specialist in 4 days so. Will ask about both of these things. What foods can cause interstitial cystitis?

I really want to know what is wrong with me too!

I just turned 20 and I've had about 15 utis since I was 15, that was the first time I had ever gotten one. The one thing that has been worrying me is that everyone has lead their belief the cause of it is birth control, but I haven't used birth control since I was 15. I hadn't gotten one in about 3 years so ever since I was 18 they haven't stopped returning. The scary part with mine is that it's never mild, and normally occurs almost immediately after sex. It always gets the point where I pee blood, it hurts to walk because I feel pressure in my bladder, and almost every time I pee in the cup for tests it's nearly black because it has so much blood in it. I have yet to see a specialist because I can't afford it, and it's always the same thing, I take the medication, it's gone, then once again after sex comes right back. No one has said what the problem could be, I wear cotton underwear, use a feminine wash every day, I urinate before and after sex, even shower after. They also gave me some pills to take after sex to help prevent them but it hasn't helped, I'm peeing blood again. Luckily I have pain pills left over, the one that turns your urine bright orange. I'm really scared that this is something I'm going to have to live with, it's so frustrating and getting expensive. I owe so money medical bills in so many places, I just want this to stop. It takes the fun out of intercourse, and it's not like I've had any other partner either, I've been with the same person since I was 15. We both are scared and annoyed with this happening every time. I just want it to be done with, but I'm so terrified of what the cause is, or if there is a cure.

    Any suggestions at all?

Oh my dear, please find a way to see a specialist. I am a nurse. Visible blood in the urine is not normal and could be something more serious or at least get an ultrasound and / or a CT scan. I don't know what country you live in. Sounds like USA. I consider myself very fortunate to live in Canada where everything, even specialists are covered by our government. I have an excellent employee benefit plan which covers all my medication's, dental and anything the government doesn't pay for which is medications, dental, vision, physiotherapy etc. All the medical stuff is paid for throughout our taxes. Can your family Dr order some basic tests at least. Antibiotics are only a bandwidth to a bigger problem. I have had 13 infections in 10 months so I feel your pain.

Unfortunately i am in the us and insurance is very expensive and i dont have parents so there is no family doctor i can rely on, my go to is the ER every time this occurs. But i do have an update. I used ro use femine wash just about every day, thinking that would prevent the utis. I recently stopped that along with using lubrication every time during sex and i surprisingly haven't gotten a uti. The last one i got was in January. I also drink lots of water and cranberry juice after sex just to rif of any bacteria. Its crazy to think that all i had to do was possibly just use lubrication and/or stop using a femine wash. I really appreciate the help!
