HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!
Posted , 95 users are following.
First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.
I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!
I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.
I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?
I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

I've gone through the same thing. I've been to 12+ doctors- General Physicians, immunologists, gynecologists, etc. All they did was throw antibiotics and creams at me. I had to be on an IV of antibiotics when I first discovered my condition 4 years ago. I had BV, UTI, and yeast infection all at once. I was doubled over in pain. I know what you're going through. It's extremely psychologically distressing.

Note: I'm on hormonal birth control pills, but I think it's hormonal birth control in general that might be doing this.

I am 48 years old and I have experienced UTIs all my life. I sincerely believe they are caused from birth control. But also the lowered estrogen in your body. I get UTIs about 2 - 3 times a year. I have had numerous tests done and countless antibotics. I am also a very "clean" person and do everything to keep bacteria away. But as I am getting older, I think the lower of estrogen in my body allows UTIs to occur. Sometimes I get recurring UTIs. It is bothersome but I guess I just deal with it and take the meds to cure it. I feel I should be greatful that I am only experiencing UTIs at my age than any other medical issues or even diseases.
But my advice to you is remove the implant. I bet that is the cause of your UTIs. You may also talk with your gynocologist to prescribe another form of BC with higher levels of estrogen. Also ask your doctor about a vaginal estrogen cream. It seems to help for me.
Best of Luck!

I've had a surgery related to reflux in my kidney when I was 5 years old. I'm now 22 and I've been getting UTI for all of my life. I got uti before the surgery, and then after the surgery it was better but by the time it gets worst.
I remember I peed myself at school because of UTI. It's really embarassing. I peed myself a lot of time I asked God why this happens to me.
Now I just have a baby and this is getting very worse. Everytime I drink something with caffeine, I get UTI. Includes tea, coffee, and chocolates. Even without caffeine I get UTI as well. I've drink cranberries and I can't have another drugs because I'm nursing. I am suspicious if the catheter made this worse? Oh and I've never use pills
The symptomps get worse if I sweat on a cold place. I sweat a lot and when I get into a cold room the urge to pee will increasing a lot. But very little pee comes out. And the symptoms is really same with UTI.
I've got recurremnt vaginal yeast infection also. I think it has something to do with UTI. These things are crushing me financially since specialist doctors are very expensive.
I'm in pain. I can't have more sex with my husband and we're just a newlyweds (almost a year). I feel bad and horrible.
I know all of your pain. Hoping the best for us all 😢

I know this post if from ages ago, but has anyone had any luck?
I'm 21 and I've been getting UTIs since I was about 17/18. I think maybe 2 or 3 a month.
I follow every rule I've seen to prevent them! And I've had that many that I'm now resistant to most antibiotics (I'm also allergic to penicillin which doesn't help)
I've had countless appointments with urologist, scans, bloods, tests and everything has always come back fine.
I've also used 3 different types of contraception and I get them on all of them - and still get them when I'm not on contraception.
Does anyone have any advice? These constant UTIs are an ongoing nightmare and are now controlling my life!

Hi,
I have been going through a similar experience for the past 2 years, where 6 infections have let to Kidney Infections in hospital. I have had numerous ultrasounds and most recently a CT Scan & Bladder examination. There appears to be no reason I get them either but my specialst recently advised me to stop using soap, sounded super weird but have given that a go and I haven't had an infection in nearly 8 weeks! Might not be the problem but worth shot!

So, I stopped using soap, which didn't actually stop these infections from occuring. Next step is to have an injection in my right kidney tube (as it is larger than normal) however, I am reading all of the comments about contraceptive causing the problems. Has anyone tried stopping the pill / implant and this has helped?
Have just had 2 infections in the past month and seriously over this now - so depressing...

I am extremely happy to have found this wonderful site for I have been itching to share my story with someone other than my mother and my primary care physician. I have been experiencing UTIs since I was 15 years old, I am almost 18 now. I contracted my first UTI when I was 15, shortly after I had become sexually active for the first time. The first symptom I noted was the burning sensation that seemed to be constantly present regardless of whether I had just gone to the bathroom or not. As days passed, blood began to show up in my urine. When I went to the doctor I had cultures taken from my urine and was simultaneously tested for STDs. The culture results said that I was, indeed, suffering from a urinary tract infection, and that the bacteria was a product of sexual intercourse, but I did not have an STD. Phew! BUT that very UTI was just the start of my downward spiral. I was put on a very common and generic antibiotic, and the infection along with its symptoms disappeared within a week. A month later, I caught another UTI and it was discovered that the antibiotic, Bactrum (not entirely sure of its spelling), that I had been prescribed and had believed to have worked to cure my first UTI, was not a compatible opponent for the bacteria that had caused my infection, and was quickly prescribed something new. That was back in 2015. I went a whole year - the entirety of 2016 - without a UTI, disregarding one in which I was thankfully able to rid on my own (if only I had such luck now!). I got my third UTI about a month ago in late April, was prescribed Augmentin, and my infection cleared within the 10 days of taking it. Here I am today, a month later, with the same problem. I am currently taking antibiotics, I believe it is called Macrobid, and it seemed to have worked the first two days I was on it, but now it is day three and, perhaps I am going crazy, but I believe the terrible burning sensation has returned. I have yet to hear back from my doctor with the results from my last urine test, so it could be that they'd prescribed to me another ineffective antibiotic which should be a quick fix, but if that is not the case, I am not sure what else I can do. Unlike most of you, I have not tried everything under the sun just yet, which provides me with some other opportunities in my quest to fix this problem. But because this is my fourth infection, I would consider myself prone to frequent UTIs. I have tried everything practical in order to prevent them. I have switched my diet and have incorporated anti-UTI foods that were said to help prevent them from recurring. I drink cranberry juice along with countless bottles of water every day. I take cranberry vitamins. I pee before and after sex and feel as though I take very good care of my body and practice good hygiene. I feel as though I am cursed. But I am very happy to have read the comments in this discussion because I never even thought that my birth control would have anything to do with my UTIs. I'd gotten my first UTI before I was introduced to the pill, but my last three have all occurred while I was taking it. I'm really considering getting off of it for a few months to see if there is any improvement. I am pretty sure my infections are the result of sex, but like everyone else who suffers from recurrent UTIs, I pee before and after intercourse and make sure to clean my pubic area as well, so I can not exactly pin down the real problem here. I'd hate to stop having sex in fear of getting another UTI, for I am a human being and I wish to satisfy my feelings of love and compassion just as everyone else does. I am tired of being miserable due to an ailment I have seemingly no control over. I am tired of repeating myself to my doctor. I am tired of having no one to talk to who understands this particular pain I am experiencing.

Hi Ya
Sounds pretty miserable I do sympathise I went through the same thing with me I had something called intertestical cystitis. Unfortunately when you have a uti that gives you thrush and it goes on and on. From birth pill they definitely cause yeast infections. Your suppose to have a break every 4 years.
Also Lemon or lemon water that's a big No
That is very acidic and will not help any uti that will aggravate it. So just plain water. You can have cranberry for uti but again no sugar in it. Sugar causes thrush yogurts mushrooms milk cream. The list goes on. I use to get all the time from the age of 20 until they found I had what I said above. All my results would be negative . And if you had antibiotic that I'm affaid causes thrush. You have to know when to take the thrush Tablet. I use to 3rd day in and one by mouth. There are lots of things even soap bubble bath etc etc. I hope I've given you some help x
