HELP! I get a UTI every single month!!

Posted , 95 users are following.

First off, let me start by saying I have seen specialists, I have taken countless amounts of antibiotics and I follow every rule known to man to avoid UTIs.

I've been getting them for about 4 years now. The last specialist I went to gave me a 2 year supply of bactrim and clearly it doesn't work. I am extremely clean. I wipe front to back, I wash before and after intercourse (as does my partner), I always relieve my bladder before and after intercourse as well. I drink about a gallon of lemon water a day. I also drink a cup of warm lemon honey water when I wake up and right before I go to sleep (as this carries a lot of antibiotic properties). I take vitamins that promote healthy vaginal walls and bladders. NOTHING WORKS!

I have to pee all the time. I'm also getting recurrent yeast and vaginosis infections which I believe are causing the UTIs but I can't seem to shake those either. This is seriously ruining my life! I'm miserable!!! I've had so many tests done including a cervical cancer biopsy and countless blood work. Even had them inject dye into my bladder and take xrays.. Everything came back normal. I have been tested for STDs more times than I can count and I always comes back clean.

I am starting to think this is related to my birth control. I have the implant in my arm. I looked back on this and realized that the one time in the last 4 years I didn't have UTIs or any infections was the 6 months I was off of the depo-provera shot. Then I went and got the implant and my symptoms started again. I am planning on taking out the implant but wanted to see if any other women had this same issue?

I read something about an injection directly into the bladder to cure this? Any advice will help. I have also tried just about EVERY SINGLE over the counter product on the planet. I have wasted so much money. I just want a solution. WTF IS GOING ON?!!!

Did you ever considered doing an ultasound? It can be very dangerous if you get it every month!

While id like to confirm your assumption of the birth control theory, i have read and relate to all of your stories and i am sorry but i have not been on bc for over 20 yrs, after a tubal. Im not sure what sparked it. I have never had one, yeast inf nor uti, until about 4 yrs ago. Now its hard to recall life without one. Its seriously affwcting my mental health. Ive been to so many drs and as a disabled vet money is tight. The va is a joke, so im about tapped out every month from copays, cost shares and script copays. My pension doesnt even cover it all so i had to get a job full time which has declined my health even further. After yrs of drs and tens of thousands in testing still they can find no cause. At this point i am almost resigned to trying to live with it rather than go bankrupt on drs bills. Did anyone here wver get an answer?

Hey! I also suffer from constant UTIs. It all began when I started having sex at the age of 20. I am now 25, so it has been 5 years of frequent urine infections. I have had multiple tests done but like everyone on this forum doctors cant seem to find a reason for my issue. I have tried many methods to stop the infection from coming back but nothing seems to work. I have noticed that usually after I have had intercourse I get a UTI. I have read on an article that condoms can irritate the vagina and cause a UTI. However, I am not entirely sure if I want to stop using condoms. I am tired of taking antibiotics and I fear one day my body will become immune to it.  I know you posted this post a few years ago but have you found a solution?

Hey Carorimi! I know the pain and frustration you're going through as I had the same issue! Here's my current regimen to keep those nasty UTI's away! :

So there’s a whole routine I do before and after sex that I’ve found to be 100% successful in keeping my UTI’s away in addition to the witch hazel! I have sex 5 times a month usually and I have not had a single UTI using this regimen! So here’s what I do… Before sex I take a shower and clean my private parts just with warm water. Then, before sex I drink 1 teaspoon of D-mannose powder with less than 6oz of water. (not anymore water than that as you do not want to dilute the solution). Immediately following sex I always wipe down my lady area with witch hazel to get rid of any gross bacteria that could have moved to my lady parts after sex too (just pour some on a cotton pad). After about 45-60 minutes, (which your sexy time would be done by  [wink]  if you’re not too kinky haha) I chug 32 ounces of water in under an hour (the d-mannose should have collected all the bacteria in your bladder by then so now you can flush it out!) . You want to drink it in under an hour so you can pee your brains out afterwards. The next day after sex, I take two cranberry azo gummies, two probiotic gummies, and my regular multivitamin. I also do another cleanse with the D-mannose powder but the day after I usually drink 16oz of water with fresh lemon squeezed into it (lemon alkalizes the bladder making it harder for bacteria to grow, Yayy!!) along with another bottle (16oz) of plain water. Again, I do this after I let the d-mannose powder sit in my bladder for 45-60 minutes (taken with less than 6oz of water). Also I rinse off immediately the day after sex as well with warm water just to really clean my lady area. (even though I did use witch hazel right after sex, this is just another precaution). That’s it!!! No more UTI’s and I can have sex whenever I want!! I hope this does work for you!! I also wanna mention that I follow up with the azo cranberry gummies every single day in the mornings whether I’ve had sex the day prior or not (again another precaution because I’m paranoid about UTI’s).  AND WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF NO MORE UTI’S WOO!!

      Best of luck!!!!

Ive been dealing with non stop uti for a month now. After 3 different antibiotics, several urine tests that were clean and lots of searching on the internet, I found a nutritional resource that is helping with my symptoms. I'm also seeing a Urogyn doctor now who confirmed that diet has a lot to do with bladder lining healing. Sharing in hopes this could help someone else. http://nutritionarticlesonline.com/bladder_interstitial_cystitisic/

Just thought I should share this response with the whole discussion board. It's my current routine that I use to keep me UTI FREE! :

But The depo shot is the only contraceptive that agrees with me I always have some sort of reaction to others😞😞I need help!

It took about a year of antibiotics to finally get my UTI's under control. I also had a UTI every month. My doc noticed that it was not always the same bacteria. So once you are over the course of antibiotics your next UTI may be another bacteria that needs a different med. I was on about 3-4 different meds in the course of a year. Finally he added Macrodantin 50mg and I have to take it every night at bedtime. The thought there is it only works in the bladder and if you take at bedtime, hopefully it remains in the bladder all night. Baring you are not a night time pee-er. It has worked for me. I have only had one UTI in a year. 😊 Knock on wood!!

They should always do a culture and sensitivity on the urine sample to make sure they have given you the correct medicine.  I have never seen a doc only give four days of medicine.  The norm is a 10 day regime.  Best of luck with your new med!

    Hello Sicktired96277,

Wow you sound like me on getting UTI's all the time, so frustrating it is! It's odd though that you were fine when you were off the depo-provera shot. It does sound like that's contributing to the infections. What's your diet like though too? Sugar seems to aggravate the UTI's and I know I'm at fault for eating things that I shouldn't be >,<

Staying away from sugar completely seems to help, Have you tried leaving out the honey when you're drinking the lemon water? I know they say that honey is good for the body but it's also a sugar.. I'm curious if you try leaving it out for a few days and see what happens? They say that apple cider vinegar helps too. I've been trying to drink apple cider vinegar with lemon in water, that does seem to help. I hope you find some relief soon, you'll be in my prayers <3

I know this post is sort of old but there are still people looking for help so I have some suggestions. I've had uti's every two weeks like clockwork for the past year. I have no insurance so things got pretty expensive pretty fast. At first I was going onto mdlive every two weeks because you only pay $45 for a 5 minute call and they will give you a prescription without tests, but I knew they would eventually realize my uti's were recurring and turn me away. I hate doctors and hate peeing in cups so I desperately searched for an alternative to antibiotics. Eventually I found d mannose and it hasn't failed me yet. Unlike cranberry it can actually treat uti's. The powder works best. Take a scoop in very little water, wait an hour before drinking anything else and then pee as much as possible and repeat. If it gets worse after about a day or you have back pain, go see a Dr. Anyways please. Also, I would like to point out that another cause of recurring uti's could be endometriosis. It isn't super common but it can effect your bladder and urethra, either by causing pain or by scarring the lining and making it easier for bacteria to hide. If you want to skip testing for that, the treatment is basically the same. You can still take d mannose and add in painkillers. I couldn't let my uti's control my life anymore.

After a year of using different antbios we got rid of mine. I am on a nightly dose of 50mg of Macrodantin. Take it at bed time so it stays in the bladder. I also take daily am doses of cranberry pills and a specific probiotic for women with utis. I have not had a uti in many months. So they seem to be working.
