Glad to hear you are having an MRI scan. Pulsating Tinnitus (where you can hear your heartbeat) needs always to be checked. It took 5 years to me to find out what was wrong. In all that time I only had CT scans and an operation that should never been attempted as they thought it was a polyps in my ear. I never had an MRI which was the correct test. I have a very rare glomus tumor in my middle ear which has been there for 10 years now. I am waiting radio therapy treatment as I refused the full surgery due to the high risks involved. Hope you get sorted soon smile

hI corinne, thia happened to me last week, i was already partially deaf in my left ear, had a dizzy spell so went to lie down, when i got up i was completely deaf in that ear, no sound whatsoever, even music at full blast through ear plugs  ,right ear also poor hearing so i cannot hear tv or follow any converstation. was a patient at ENT but they discharged me so will have to go through process again, it took 18months last time,

have they sorted you out yet, i do hope so as i know how frustrating this is.

I also have no wax or infection so it must be something in my inner ear- had lots of infections as a child - am now 73-i am carer for husband so this is a severe inconvenience.

I lost 40% of my hearing in my right ear. Like you. Over night. I have been to ENT several times.

Had a steroid injection in my ear drum. Took a round of oral steroids and had surgery for deviated septum. None has helped my hearing at all.

I got a second opinion and I will see what the CT scan shows when I go for it tomorrow.

I am 71 and in good health otherwise. It just doesn't seem like I am getting the help I need.

I will post the results,if any, soon.

Going back to your first post where you say you had steroid injections into your ear???? OMG I had similar and just woke up with no hearing in my rite ear too. I thought it would be a straightforward stapedectomy. Am I wrong as you present with same symptoms as me!!

Yes I still have all the symptoms I listed earlier. It has been since May or June of 2014.

I had a CT scan this morning and hope it reveals whst is wrong.

I hear a constant roaring and hissing in my ear and it is driving me nuts.

I hope you get better results on your situation but no one seems to know or care much about fixing mine.

Hi again ethyl, you dont say where you are living , I am in wales and it takes at least 6 months to get an referrel apptment, so thinking of going private for initial consultation- the scan takes even longer, so i am feeling desperate too.

Could not hear anything of tv over xmas or follow any conversations, have been reassessed at hearing aid clinic and my left ear has dropped to bottom of scale , my right ear being 2 thirds of the way down.

I was fitted  with 2 hearing aids, but technician admitted, left one was not able to do much even with it at its strongest. so bliss i can hear wuith my right ear.

Still worrried about why i went so deaf suddenly and will show graph of hearing test to doc tomorrow and see if she can push apptment forward- i do not want to be dependant on aids if there is another solution. Still have tinnitus in head and can feel other noises in my ear.

Surely this has to be one of the most distressing of disabilities, you feel so cut off from the world- i can see why people withdraw and get so angry.

Hope you have some good news soon and someone will help you- do you think our age is against us?

I think it's more a nerve problem than our age. If I had been sick, other than sinus infection, I might think age too.

I tried for months to get my doctor to prescribe antibiotics and did not get them.

The pressure is bad and feels like my whole face us going to burst. My head is full of infection and that scares me.

I hope you get help sooner. If I get any news I will post it. Hang in there and don't get depressed.

hey corine. rest assured! i have the same problem as you!

last month, when i was doin my work, i have a sudden deaf in my left ear. i went to see ENT the next day. there is no wax nor liquid. so, they suspect something is wrong with my ear nerve. did the mri scan, theres no tumour nor cancerous cells found. they gv me steroids for 9 days. there was slight improvement (from 100% hearing loss to 90%) but that is it. the audiologist even gv me the look-- like you are not goin to make it and stuff. because my case is very severe, he said. i was deeply sad at that time, and that was when my parents suggest that i go on to see sensei (chinese doctor). i went and the sensei give me a lot of herbs. after one week, i can feel the improvement! went to see the audiologist, and he was shocked with the result. he asks me ' what happened to you? you have significant improvement!'. phew. at that time, i was relieved as ever. now i still consume the chinese herbs and hope for a full recovery.

so, my advise to you is.... try to go for traditional meds (herbs and all). hope all is well with you.

    p/s: excuse my english

Omg this is what happens to me also with the going deaf at work but my doctors told me it was congestion and never treated me for nerve damage 6 weeks later I had the Mir scan and lots of other tests done .i had to wear hearing aids but keeped getting infections ,so I am completely deaf in my left ear, and my right ear is terrible too so in the end I've had to have a bone anchor hearing aid  fitted to my head ...do you thing the herbal melds have made a real difference to you as I will do anything to get some natural hearing back.

      Many thanks Rachele

Hey rachele. Im not sure wht u have because it sounded more like infection. Now, i have stop taking traditional medicine but went to acupuncture once in a month. My hearing problem is on and off. Did my hearing test; one week my hearing seems to be almost normal, another week back to moderate hearing loss. Sigh. My friend have suggestd me to visit this doctor who specialises in traditional chinese method. He say he will use knife and poke it somewher along nerve line . Haha it sounds scary, i know, but it is proven to be alright for most people. So i think i shud go for it? Will tell u more if my hearing improve after tht. But, have u try see a different doctor? To get a second opinion.

      Sarah,

I'm going through the same thing. Would you please provide me with the name of your sensei?

      Thanks!

      Hi scarlett,

He is based in malaysia ( bukit jalil / johor bahru). His name is professor wong. the clinic is called bio nice medicare group sdn bhd. I just went last week. For now its too soon to tell whether there is improvement or not. Total cost is rm240. Approximately usd 60? I will go again next month. I will update if there is improvement.

Most of the sensei/ doctor that i went to say that i should not be stress. Because if i stress, it will just make my condition worst. So they tll me to live life normally and just be happy. It will eventually help. So scarlett, be strong alright. We can do this.

      hello there

It has been a year now and how are things with your hearing.  I am seeing my doctor today as for I have the same issues that started 3 days ago.  I was wondering what herbs you were given by the chinese doctor?  Everything I have read on these posts kind of worries me!!!!

      Thanks
