    Hi Corinne,

I woke up one morning and my head felt like I had a gong going off in it and lost some low-frequency hearing in my right ear.  All sound was horribly distorted and had a roaring sound in my right ear.  So frightening. I went right to the ENT and he put me on Steroids for two weeks.  Regained the hear ing right ear but still have loud roaring and hearing distortion for the last 3 months.  This happened to me 14 years ago.  On botht occassion I had not been sick at all.  The last time I had this it lasted for almost 5 months. It was the worse 5 months of my life. ( Take that into consideration as I am a cancer survivor asl well)  I got two diagnosises: Menieres disease, however I am not dizzy and a possible virus of some sort.  I believe the steroids did help bring back my hearing and have less distortion.  i am also taking a water pill for high blood pressure, gingko and b vitamins and following a low salt diet and drinking lots of water as this is procedure for treating Menieres disease if it is that.  I am still going to doctors for more opinions and had CTA scan to check my blood vessels which may be a good idea if you haven't done that yet. Feel better and good luck.

I literally made an account to say this. If you wake up deaf in one ear, listen to some music with earbuds and after a little bit, try yauning and that might solve all your problems. I woke up this morning almost completely deaf in one ear. I was freaking out because my left ear felt numb and nothing I was doing was helping, so I didnt think it could be a pressure issue. So out of curiosity, I got on my Samsung to use the adapt sound feature on the music app. Basically, it lets you see the difference in youre hearing in bother ears. My left ear could barely hear anything except for some middle-pitched sounds. Then as I was listening, I happened to yawn and all of a sudden I heard a loud rushing sounder in my ear. After I yawned a few times, the hearing in my ear returned. It was crazy!! I'm guessing that there was some ear wax clogging my hearing and the ear buds helped to soften the wax. So my point is don't rule out ear wax buildup until you try listening to music with ear buds and yawning. Hopefully this helpssmile

ARG!...I want to cry reading all of this...I have been dizzy for years,..I was told it was positional vertigo, and with proper excersizes I could get some relief...so times go on,...and I'm learning to adapt...then suddenly on March 28 at 3:30 pm...(yes I have the minute down pat!) and I lost my hearing along with the loudest sound ever of screaming in my head. Plugging my ears didn't help. The sound is in my head. It's on the side. Went to the ER...they sched. At appointment for August 30. That's five months away...so I have had no help with this for five months. Finally went in to see the Dr. ENT specialist who says the right ear is just spiffy,..however I have severe to almost profound hearing loss....in the 80 in the left ear...  So,we are doing an MRI next week...here is my question, has anyone had an operation to remove tumors?  it's been a while it seems for you....has your hearing returned????

    Hello Corinne

?The exact same thing happened to me in Florida on vacation, I rolled over in bed and couldnt hear in my right ear, I freaked out and got out of bed, I then was very dizzy and felt like i was on an all night drunk. Since then a year later, I have had ear tests, and an MRI, nothing shows why i lost my hearing but I am almost deaf in that ear. I do hear drops sometimes and when loud music plays i can feel the beat in my right ear, but when i use headphones, i hear nothing.  The ENT told me that it is something that just happens its unexplainable. GREAT i am so scared that the same thing will happen to my other ear. Hope you have better news..... DEAF too in Michigan

I have the same symptoms. I woke up one morning and was partly deaf in my right ear. I can still hear out of it a little but it's not as clear. It's been a pain and I have to listen to everything in my right ear. I understand how your feeling. I just hope it will end soon or something.

After a month long sinus infection finally goes away I wake up to loss of hearing in my left ear .

It's bad, nothing has worked to "unclog" it .

Along with the deafness in the left ear is ringing.

It's a highly annoying depressing thing to deal with im going to Dr. , will let you know what that outcome is .

Just wanted to post here to chime in after I had the same symptoms. Woke up one morning and could hardly hear out of right ear. Low frequency buzz with it. Went to the doctor and an audiologist and they figured it was an eustachian tube issue. I just wanted to give people hope since people rarely comment after they resolve issues like this. In my case it took four weeks to clear up but it did indeed clear up and my hearing is back to normal. I took some decongestants (benadryl allergies) but it didn't seem to do anything but I took them anyway. Maybe it helped but who knows.

One thing I noticed which was weird was about two or three weeks in with the issue I took a benadryl and was off riding my dirt bike. I got REALLY warm up trail riding in the woods with sweat down my face in the helmet. When I got back and took the helmet off and took my earplugs out I could hear fine again but it only lasted till the next morning. It took another week or more to actually get better. I think heat combined with the benadryl does indeed help. A hot bath didn't help but the dirt bike did. I rode it a lot because I couldn't notice how annoying my ear was with the earplugs in and helmet on.

Anyway.. Just giving people hope. It'll take weeks but you'll get better.
