    It could be your thyroid I would have your thyroid checked because I have a thyroid problem and I have had swollen glands.

    Have your thyroid checked to see what it is

      Hi martine

      if your thyroid ( TSH) was 1.8 like you said above  ( normal range )

      then all will be okay at the moment

      TSH. This hormone is made in the pituitary gland. It is released into the bloodstream. It stimulates the thyroid gland to make thyroxine.

      If the level of thyroxine in the blood is low, then the pituitary releases more TSH to try to stimulate the thyroid gland to make more thyroxine.

      Therefore, a raised level of TSH means the thyroid gland is underactive and is not making enough thyroxine.

      Thyroxine (T4). A low level of T4 confirms hypothyroidism.

      Note: some people have a raised TSH level but have a normal T4 level. This means that you are making enough thyroxine but the thyroid gland is needing extra stimulation from TSH to make the required amount of thyroxine. In this situation you have an increased risk of developing hypothyroidism in the future. Your doctor may advise a repeat blood test every so often to see if you do eventually develop hypothyroidism.

      Other tests are not usually necessary unless a rare cause of hypothyroidism is suspected. For example, tests of the pituitary gland may be done if both the TSH and T4 levels are low.

      yes hun

      The blood test for thyroid problems is called a Thyroid Function Test. The most usual tests are:

      TSH, TT4 AND FT4

      There is a range, which is used for the tests. These vary sometimes which is why you must always ask what the range is, so that you can see where you are in the range.

      TSH = THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE

      This hormone comes from the pituitary to stimulate the thyroid gland into making more hormone. TSH rises when the thyroid is struggling.

      The approx. reference range for this test is 0.4 to 4.5.

      TT4 = TOTAL T4

      Thyroid hormones bound to proteins. TT4 lowers when the thyroid is struggling.

      The approx. reference range for this test is 50 to 160.

      FT4 = FREE T4

      Thyroid hormones not bound to proteins. FT4 lowers when the thyroid is struggling.

      The approx. reference range for this test is 10 to 24

      FT3 = FREE T3

      T4 converts to T3 and is the only thyroid hormone actually used by the body's cells.

      The approx. reference range for Free T3 is 4 to 8.3

    Hi Martina

    Was the feeling in your throat like your throat was constricted and you were hoarse?

      It's like chocking. Now there is pressure in the base near thyroid. Doctor felt it he said thyroid was fine.. I was clearing it a lot but not now.. I get a rotten taste to sometimes. I take gavinscon for it

    Could your sore throat be due to acid reflux? When my B12 was first diagnosed as low I had a really sore mouth, like I had burnt it on hot pizza. Just had my B12 retested as symptoms worse than ever. I don't have swollen glands though.
