Hi beverly52803. Thank you. I'm 35. I remember at about 21 I was diagnosed with a VIN 1 but at the time there wasn't much information in that so I was told not to worry about it. So now I don't if there is any relationship. But it's stressing me out and painful. Would a dermatologist or gyne be more appropriate. I've gone back and forth to my gyne with no success. Two actually.

I assume you have been seeing a gynecologist over the past 14 years? I would think if you were diagnosed with VIN1 a doctor would want to keep an eye on it.
I have vaginal atrophy as I am way past menopause. Along with that I have now developed Lichen Sclerosus, but I think I must have a mild version as I don't have the discomfort others report. My new gyn, a menopausal specialist, has told me in my case the lack of estrogen has caused the LS. But if you read up on it young people get it and it can appear anywhere on the body.
I would do some research on the doctors themselves and go to one that specializes in treating it. Some women seem to get bounced around because it isn't a common condition. I believe both gyn's and dermatologists treat it, but considering where yours is I personally would go with a gyn for now. Just make sure she/he has experience treating the condition. Do not go back to the ones you have seen. You want to find one asap as they will probably prescribe a steroid. Maybe in the meantime if you are comfortable trying it you can use an over the counter one to alleviate the discomfort. Maybe call to ask the most recent dr you saw their opinion if you don't feel comfortable trying it.
There's quite a bit on the internet including possible treatments. I even found a youtube clip of a group of medical people from Australia (I think it was) discussing LS. Be prepared. It will become your new "hobby". Take notes so it doesn't become a jumble in your mind.
?What country are you in? I am in the US
I know it's scary to go to doctors who aren't very helpful, but try not to panic. You will find an appropriate dr and get treatment.

HI there BusterBob, Nancy here age 72, United States. So i was only diagnosed 9 months ago... and presumably the same way you got here now - you googled your symptoms! Yep, you have Lichen sclerosus. Well, I then got a referral to a gynecologist who visually identified it LS. Then I could get rid of her ( she wasn't very helpful beyond that).. and go back to my integrative physician who transitioned out of being a cardiologist who found he could solve more problems with nutrition that with surgery!
Anyway, it seems that more dermatologists know more about SKIN (no matter where it is on the body) and therefore LS than do gyne's who are more interested in babies anyway.
I studied online for months to create an autoimmune protocol of nutrition that helps abate the LS symptoms. Autoimmunity is an internal systemic issue. Check out my article, it will get you feeling better. My on doctor approved of each item. Blessings and be well. Other meges here will have much to say about various salves and creams to help externally.
