Good Grips do a range and I use the jar opener but sometimes,  I have found that gripping a jar's lid with a rubber glove, works just as well.

I don't have strength to open jars etc with the grips but I can by releasing the air from them by pushing end of spoon under rim.

I have used a small drill in the past, just enough to release the vacuum.

The Good Grips jar opener, once you can get it in the right place, works quite well because you seem to need the extra length that it gives you - if you know what I mean!

If you're talking about vaccum packed jars, I just tap them forcefully on the counter frist to release the air. Then the rubber grip does it for me.

But I have seen those big chunky metal things with their many adjustable sizes for your variety of jar lids. Yes, they do give the extra leverage needed.

Thank you  to everyone. I have a few things to look at and see what works.

There are these rubber discs you can get most anyhwere - wish I knew what they were called but they're the size of a small salad plate or saucer and just rubber and they grip everything, making turning really easy.  Until you can find and buy those, I improvise by taking plastic wrap (the clinging kind) and put it over a jar (generously and sort of messy so there are wrinkles but covering the whole jar -- like a messy blanket draped over a chair) and then a slightly damp wash cloth over that, and it grips really well.  Dry washcloth might work too... try dry first and if it doesn't "grab" the plastic wrap, dampon it just a bit.  Good luck!
