Hemorrhoid banding

I've had banding with my hemorrhoids 7 times, it's the last try before having them cut off and i needed it doing quickly as i go away on Sunday for 2 weeks.

the previous times i have been put to sleep for it and once I've woke up i have been sore but the pain was bearable, this time i only had gas and air and when he banded my 4 piles i nearly shot to the roof.

the surgeon said he didn't expect my piles to be so big and said they may not drop off but will shrink.

i have never been in this pain, I'm in agony! i opened my bowels earlier but i have trouble with going to the toilet, i ended up going 3 times and had a fair bit of blood in the toilet. is this normal? and should i be unbearable pain 4 days post opp? I'm taking the strongest co codomal i can get.

so scared as I'm going on holiday next weekend.

any reviews and help will be very appreciated******

Lou , i just had 2 grade 2 hemorrhoids banded on Wednesday. Slight bleeding until Saturday, when i saw the first band come off,and much more blood. I cant say i was in pain, uncomfortable yes. Ive only taken Tylenol. Here's the deal,as i understand the more hemorrhoids you have banded at once, the more pain, blood you'd have. I had 2 done at once. Had another 2 bands fall off today. Other than slight discomfort and my backside still enflamed , i'm doing much better than the day before.

I've had four bandings done but my surgeon would only do one at a time because he said doing more than one at a time can cause a ton of pain ...I had slight discomfort but nothing that ice packs didn't help and only had blood when the hems fell off a couple of days later

my band fell off last night, 3 days after having it done but there was no pile there. I'm scared i strained too much causing it to fall off? I've rang the hospital, they said they will get someone to ring me

i pretty sure you rarely see the tissue. Just the bands. Remember its mucosa that essentially being choked off and slothing off.

      Hi lou,

Make sure you get your constipation under control before you have your procedure. Although I was only told to do a 10hour fast, I actually watched what I ate the day prior to surgery and took magnesium citrate, which cleaned me out before surgery. I've followed the instructions from "UWHealth health facts for you Hemorrhoidectomy", since all I was given by my surgeon were generic materials for surgery and pain management, nothing specific to my procedure (I did not do the enemas). It can't hurt to print out the instructions and check them with your surgeon.

I would also ask about Bupivacaine Liposome Injectable Suspension ( brand name Exparel). I have no connections to the drug whatsoever, in case you are wondering, but I was given this, and I truly can say I felt no pain for almost 72 hours, the area was numbed that long. I did not need any opioids (=constipation) for those first couple of days nor later. What are pros and cons (being numb may cause you to strain more than you normally would if you were actually feeling the pain, for example. Everyone goes through their own version of this procedure, but it can't hurt to stack the cards in your favor.

i should get a letter through the post whilst I'm away to see a consultant. the pain is constant!

i struggle to go to the toilet without piles. i can go a week and not use the toilet, i take laxatives and has the other affect obviously, so i got told to take movicol every day which isn't a laxative but it still goes through me so i can't take it every day. long story short i have an obstruction in my bowel that a scan showed so now i understand why i strain so much and my bowels dont empty properly so I'm scared the consultant is going to try sort this obstruction out before sorting my piles which is the common sense route but i can't take this pain for months on end. i need to see an end to this miserable part of my life. currently sat on a hot water bottle.

also how did you find the big opp? healing time? the pain? bleeding? i think 3 of mine have dropped off, it's just this one big pile that's not budging and making me loose money when I'm not at work.

Hi everyone is different with the op some are not in pain and some are . I found it was more discomfort then anything as the area swells up quite a bit and not been able to sit was a big thing for me . Do think you are doing the best thing as it the only way to get rid for sure .I had two big internal ones that would stay down for ages and made my life miserable . Will take about six weeks to feel like your old self. Get some ice on the area it's a great relief . Good luck with everything x

Banding for me ended up in complications. See my post. Far more painful than the haemorrhoidectomy i had on Tues.
