Hemorrhoidectomy

I have a big extrenal thrombosed hemorrhoid (size of a grape)I would say grade 3 or 4. Tried everything that is usually recommended and also every treatment my GP prescribed, nothing’s worked. I went to a&e and had it lanced but it did nothing at all. I am seeing a colorectal specialist later this week for a first consultation, I’m an NHS patient but it’s in a private clinic (referred by my GP). This problem is really affecting me not just physically but emotionally, mainly as I haven’t been able to have sex with my partner due to embarrassment and he is wondering why but I cannot tell him, I worry he will leave if I don’t get this problem fixed ASAP. I am really hoping to be offered surgery, ideally hemorrhoidectomy as I can’t see any other treatment working. My question is this: is it likely they will offer me surgery and how long will I wait between my first consultation and the surgery if I am offered it? How long did you wait? Thank you

Thank you for your reply. Are you in the U.K. and what type of hemorrhoid did you have? Was the surgery offered to you or did you have to ask? How did your surgery go? In bad shape how?

I am in the US. I had a large thrombosed external removed and a skin tag from a huge thrombosed one I had lanced 7 years ago.  It left an huge skin tag that was hard to clean up around. Awful. I’m not sure if my pain and swelling is from that. If you only have one it might not be as bad. I’m currently icing the area in pain. I am out of work 2 weeks and not sure I’ll be able to go back in time.

And the surgery was offered right away. It went really good. I am having issues after.

I’m sorry to hear you are in pain. I am not scared of surgery or pain if it means getting rid of this as it is very painful, very noticeable and I have no sex life as a result. Let’s keep in touch. Get well soon

Were yours internal? Mine is external and thrombosed so I doubt banding will be an option for me?

Did you have the colonoscopy and banding at your first consultation or had to go back for that? If so how long did you wait between both appointments? Thank you

When you go to the toilet now do you sit on the seat to go? I have found standing over the toilet with my hand on my Knees really helps and it stop the straining with dosent help with the pile!! Also try and take so movical it very good.

Thanks for the tips. I’m seeing the colorectal specialist on Friday and really hoping they will offer me surgery. I don’t think banding will work as have very large thrombosed and external. I just want this problem sorted ASAP, just hoping the specialist will be understanding and helpful
